Questions 172-175 refer to the following report.
A team from the marketing department, led by Brian An, conducted consumer research on
Dura-bag’s new line of women’s briefcases. Available in gray, black, and brown, the bags
have been updated to carry everything the modern businesswoman needs. — [1] —.
Feedback on the products was gathered through two methods, as explained below:
FOCUS GROUPS: The marketing team surveyed six focus groups, each containing 12
participants. All participants were female businesspeople between 30 and 50 years of age,
the target market for this particular line. Groups were led through a variety of activities and
asked a number of questions. — [2] —. Although the majority (88 percent) were impressed
with the products’ contemporary designs, many (56 percent) criticized the size of the
briefcases, saying they were too bulky. Several participants voiced concerns that airlines
would consider them to be “carry-on luggage” rather than a personal item. Some also
suggested that a wider selection of colors might be a good idea. — [3] —.
PRODUCT TESTERS: The team also asked 24 focus-group participants to use the
briefcases for a period of two weeks and report back their findings. All participants said
they were very pleased with the functionality of the products and that they were easy to
open and close. In addition, 80 percent of them said they will continue using the
briefcases. — [4] —. However, 8 of the participants indicated that some airlines have
verified that the cases are too large to be considered personal items.
Based on the findings, the team recommends that the size of the bags be reduced. We
estimate that the reduction would only need to be by 10 percent, so the modifications
shouldn’t significantly impact production. Also, we had previously discussed manufacturing
a larger selection of colors. We may wish to revisit this idea as it appears more variety
might be in demand with our target consumer group.
Complete and comprehensive details and findings from the product tests will be e-mailed
to those requiring them. Simply e-mail a request to Mr. An’s assistant, Deanna Hartford at
dhart@durabag.com, and she can forward you the full report.
Questions 176-180 refer to the following notice and e-mail.
Thank you very much for speaking with me yesterday. I’ve attached a scan of my
receipt, as you instructed. My apologies for not having it on me the other day.
Although I did purchase product 274AR on May 10, I did not experience any
significant skin ailments. Thank you for providing me with the legal form to file a
claim anyway, but I don’t think that will be necessary. Please just send along what
was promised in the notice I received last month. The address that it can be sent to
is: 68 Hartfield Way, Richmond, VA 23237.
Please note that next month, I will be out of the country for work and will thus be
unable to accept the package when it arrives. Accordingly, the delivery person may
leave the box in the management office of my apartment complex on the first floor
of the building. I appreciate all of your help with this in advance.
Please let me know if there is any further information you will need from me to
complete this request.
Kindest Regards,
Danielle Peng

Co-owner of the jewelry corporation Marks & Duvall, Frederick Marks, has long had a love for
precious stones. Born and raised in rural Belgium, Mr. Marks grew up learning the farming
trade, which led him to initially find beauty in all things related to nature. At the age of 14,
Mr. Marks started vocational school, where he was expected to excel in agriculture. However,
much to his parents’ surprise, he began enrolling in home economics classes and became
intrigued particularly by the art of jewelry making. “Gems are perhaps the most spectacular
items in the natural world,” Mr. Marks says, reflecting on his early love of jewels.
Fifteen years later, Marks & Duvall is thriving in Belgium, thanks in part to Marks’
commitment to quality and making his customers happy. “When they come into one of our
stores looking for something special, they know they’ll leave happy.” A recent, award-winning
marketing campaign has also increased awareness of the company’s unique offerings in his
home country. According to Marks, “We’ve been very lucky. If everything continues this way,
we hope to open our first store in the Netherlands next year.” For more information on Marks &
Duvall and to purchase an item online, visit the company’s Web page at www.mdjewelry.com.

Hi Margaret,
I found your thesis in the free magazine that NCD sent to me this month, and I thought the topic
you covered was very interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing it presented at the upcoming
conference in September. Actually, as you already know, I will be giving a presentation on advances
in pediatric care on the second day. Since this is my first time giving a presentation, I was wondering
if you could spare a moment to give me some pointers. I can have my assistant, Dennis, give you a
call to make arrangements. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Andrew

Happy Holidays from Hopewell Financial
February 10 – Earlier this year, Hopewell Financial expanded its customer base by implementing the
Global Rewards program. Customers who signed up for a Hopewell Financial credit card in January
have been eligible for double rewards for every purchase of a hotel stay or airline ticket, plus five
points per dollar spent for purchases made at a supermarket or gas station. Spokesperson Jonathan
Blakely said that over 3,000 new customers signed up for the Global Rewards credit card in that month
alone. He added that Hopewell Financial would enjoy considerable income growth from fees charged
to participating merchants. To maintain this growth during the Easter holiday season, the bank will be
introducing a holiday rewards program for both new and existing customers.
Beginning on March 1, customers can collect five points per dollar on travel-related transactions,
including hotels, airlines, gas stations, and car rentals. In addition, purchases made at participating
retail stores will earn customers 3 percent cashback on every transaction. All other transactions will
award one point per dollar. The holiday rewards program ends on May 31.
