1. A computer virus is a program that is hidden inside another ordinary looking program or software.
The computer virus spreads by physical contact (through USB or cable) or electronic contact
(through Bluetooth or internet).
 2. Some common symptoms of presence of virus are:
i. Unexplained messages start appearing on your screen.
ii. Some files are deleted on their own.
 iii. Unknown files are added to your disk.
 iv. An entire disk or drive of the computer is erased.
v. The keyboard does not work properly.

4. The term Malware is formed by combination of two words – Malicious and Software. It is the
software that is written and developed to create mischief or hurt the user.
 5. Trojan Horses are ordinary looking files but are actually programs that delete files or corrupt
them. They are generally transferred as innocent attachments to an email. Worms are like virus but
differ from them in one feature. Whereas, virus are transferred from one system to another as an
attachment to a file or a program, Worms can spread on their own and do not need the support of
attaching to a file or a program. They generally spread through internet.
 6. An Antivirus is the software which is used to identify and prevent virus and other malware from
infecting the computer.
7. Some free anti-virus programs are Avast, AG, Avira and Immunet. Some commercial anti-virus
programs are McAfee, Norton, Bitdefender, Quick Heal and Kaspersky.
8. Ransomware is a type of malware that focuses on the user and data stored in the computer
system of the user. It announces itself to the user. It takes the control of the computer system and
converts its data in a special format and locks the files. It then flashes instructions to pay bribe or
ransom for release of data.
 Scareware is used to trick internet users to purchase or download useless or dangerous software.
The user gets scared of loss of data and purchases the program which in fact is some useless or
dangerous software.
