KNOWLEDGE

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His
forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from the consequences
of our wrong actions. Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomever He misguides,
none can guide.

Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family,
companions, and all those who follow his path until the Day of Judgment.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, I greet you with peace: Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi
wa Barakatuh.

Today, I would like to remind myself and all of you about the importance of seeking knowledge,
a noble pursuit that is deeply emphasized in Islam.

Allah says in the Qur'an, in Surah Al-Alaq, verses 1 to 5:

"Read in the name of your Lord who created. Created man from a clot. Read, and your
Lord is the most generous. Who taught by the pen. Taught man that which he knew not."
(Qur'an, Al-Alaq 96:1-5)

This was the first revelation to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), commanding him
to read and seek knowledge. The very first command from Allah was not to worship, but to
acquire knowledge. This shows how important knowledge is in Islam. Knowledge illuminates
the path to understanding the world, fulfilling our duties as Muslims, and getting closer to Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said in a well-known hadith:

"Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim." (Sunan Ibn Majah)

This teaches us that acquiring knowledge is not just a privilege but a responsibility for every
Muslim, male and female, young and old. Knowledge is a means of increasing our faith,
improving our actions, and contributing positively to society.

Moreover, Allah has promised to raise the status of those who seek knowledge. In Surah Al-
Mujadila, Allah says:

"Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge,
by degrees." (Qur'an, Al-Mujadila 58:11)

This is a reminder that those who strive for knowledge are honored by Allah and will be elevated
in this world and the Hereafter.
But dear brothers and sisters, seeking knowledge requires sincerity, dedication, and hard work. It
is not enough just to read or attend classes. We must strive to understand, apply, and share the
knowledge for the benefit of others. Knowledge is not only for personal gain but is meant to be
used for the betterment of the community and the world.

As we seek knowledge, we must always keep our intentions pure, doing it for the sake of Allah
and to benefit others. Let us remember that the greatest knowledge is the knowledge of Allah,
which leads us to a deeper understanding of His commands and a closer relationship with Him.

May Allah grant us beneficial knowledge, help us apply it correctly, and make us of those who
share it with others for the good of our Ummah.

Ameen.

I conclude with a prayer that Allah may grant us all success in this noble pursuit of knowledge.

Wassalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
