1.
Water Can Boil and Freeze
at the Same Time!
This phenomenon is called the
Triple Point. It occurs when
temperature and pressure are just
right for a substance to coexist in
all three phases—solid, liquid,
and gas—at the same time. For
water, this happens at a specific
temperature (0.01°C) and
pressure, where ice, liquid water,
and steam can exist together.
2. Octopuses Have Three
Hearts and Blue Blood!
Octopuses are fascinating
creatures with three hearts: two
pump blood to the gills, while one
pumps it to the rest of the body.
Their blood is blue because it's
copper-based (using hemocyanin)
rather than iron-based like our red
blood cells. This allows them to
thrive in oxygen-poor
environments!
3. Venus Spins Backwards!
Unlike most planets in our solar
system, Venus rotates in the
opposite direction to its orbit
around the Sun. This means that
on Venus, the Sun would rise in
the west and set in the east. It also
has an extremely slow rotation,
taking about 243 Earth days to
complete one full rotation.
4. The Eiffel Tower Can Grow
Taller in Summer!
The Eiffel Tower, made of iron,
expands in the heat. During hot
summer days, it can grow by up to
6 inches (15 cm). This happens
because heat makes the iron
expand, causing the structure to
stretch slightly.
5. Your Body Has More
Bacterial Cells Than Human
Cells!
It's estimated that the human body
contains about 10 times more
bacterial cells than human cells.
Most of these bacteria live in your
gut and help with digestion,
immunity, and other bodily
functions. They form what's
known as the human microbiome.
6. A Day on Mercury Is Longer
Than a Year on Mercury!
Mercury has a very slow rotation
—it takes 59 Earth days to
complete one rotation, but only
88 Earth days to complete an orbit
around the Sun. So, a single day
on Mercury is longer than its
year!
7. Sharks Have Been Around
Longer Than Trees!
Sharks first appeared around 400
million years ago, while trees
evolved about 350 million years
ago. This means sharks were
swimming in the oceans long
before trees even existed on land!
8. Lightning Strikes the Earth
100 Times Every Second!
Lightning is a constant presence
in Earth’s atmosphere. On
average, about 8 million
lightning strikes occur every day,
which comes out to 100 strikes
every second. The power of
lightning is incredible—each bolt
can carry up to 1 billion volts of
electricity!
