“Railway Track Crack Detection”

Introduction

Railway transportation plays a pivotal role in our country's connectivity, yet it is disheartening
to note that the susceptibility of our railway tracks poses a significant concern. The current state
of these tracks has led to a considerable number of accidents annually, resulting in tragic
consequences and the loss of numerous lives.

Through this proposed system, the primary challenge lies in the absence of and
efficient and cost-effective technology for detecting rail track issues, compounded by
inadequate maintenance practices that seriously threaten human safety. This approach utilizes
some basic components, including Arduino Nano, L298N driver, IR sensors, GPS, and
ESP8266, to create a sophisticated system capable of autonomously navigating a vehicle along
a railway track while detecting potential structural issues. The primary focus of this project is
developing a robust track detection mechanism employing infrared (IR) sensors strategically
placed to identify cracks and irregularities on the railway track [2]. Using a dual sensor setup,
the system can differentiate between intact tracks and those requiring attention, facilitating
proactive maintenance efforts.

“Railway Track Crack Detection”

Problem statement
The Transportation of train continually depends on railway tracks (rails) only. If there's
a crack in these rails, it creates a significant problem. Most of the accidents within the train are
caused a major cracks within the railway tracks, that can't be simply known. A major it takes
longer to rectify this downside. So as to avoid this downside, we have a tendency to be using
the crack detector golem that detects the crack within the rails and offers an alarm.

Objectives
The objective of the project is:

• The key takes away from data is that initiatives that the potential for human errors such
as automated inspection and asset monitoring techniques, replacement of over-aged
assets (tracks, signaling).

• Besides crack detection, this project also aims at detecting obstacles present on the
railway track in order to prevent railway accidents.

• Reduces the need for manpower.

• Provides real-time monitoring of and detection of any crack or objects on railway tracks
and in case of detection sends
