Pietro De Camilli
Pietro De Camilli NAS, AAA&S, NAM is an Italian-
American biologist and John Klingenstein Professor of Pietro De Camilli
Neuroscience and Cell Biology at Yale University Born Brenta, Lombardy
School of Medicine. He is also an Investigator at Nationality American
Howard Hughes Medical Institute. De Camilli Alma mater University of Milan
completed his M.D. degree from the University of University of Pavia
Milan in Italy in 1972. He then went to the United
Awards Julius Axelrod Prize (2015)
States and did his postdoctoral studies at Yale
Ernst Jung Gold Medal for
University with Paul Greengard.[1][2]

De Camilli is known for contributions that has been to E.B. Wilson Medal (2021)
demonstrate the crucial role of protein-lipid Scientific career
interactions and phosphoinositide metabolism in the Fields Neuroscience
control of membrane traffic at the synapse.[3] Cell biology
He has received several awards and honors for his Institutions Yale University
work. He was elected to the European Molecular Academic Paul Greengard
Biology Organization in 1987. In 2001, he was elected advisors
to the National Academy of Sciences and to the
American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1990 he received the Max-Planck-Forschungspreis together
with Reinhard Jahn (at this time at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry).[2] In 2019 he was awarded the
Ernst Jung Gold Medal for Medicine for lifetime achievement.[4]
