INTRODUCTION
Motorcycle accidents are a leading cause of fatal injuries. A Smart Helmet aims to
reduce the time between accidents and medical assistance by detecting crashes in
real-time and automatically notifying emergency services or family members.
This project leverages sensors, microcontrollers, and communication technologies
to build a helmet capable of accident detection and SOS functionality. The objective
of this mini project is to design and develop a Smart Helmet that integrates
accident detection and automatic SOS (emergency) notification features to enhance
the safety of motorcyclists. The helmet will monitor the rider's movements, detect
accidents, and send out SOS alerts to emergency contacts with the rider's location,
ensuring timely help.
OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
• Helmet Wear Detection: Before riding, the system checks whether the rider is
wearing the helmet, If the helmet is not worn, the bike ignition is locked.
• Real-Time Monitoring: The helmet constantly monitors the rider’s movements
through the accelerometer and gyroscope.
• Accident Detection: If the helmet detects a significant impact or a fall, the system
evaluates the situation based on predefined thresholds.
• SOS Activation: After detecting an accident, the helmet triggers the SOS system
and sends an alert containing the rider’s GPS location to emergency contacts or
authorities.
• Post-Accident Response: The system sends the GPS coordinates of the accident
location through the mobile app or GSM module, The buzzer and LED indicators
help notify nearby people of the situation.
