Role of Farmers

::1::

The foundation of our country is agriculture. Farmers put a lot of efforts into
providing meals for everyone in the country throughout their life. They
generate food, fodder and other basic resources. A farmer is the most
important and valuable person in the world. The farmer stands for an
individual whose occupation is farming. Depending on the nature of farming,
we have several types of farmers. For instance, some farmers specialise in
animal husbandry, dairy farming, horticulture, crop farming and many other
types of farming. Their efforts are crucial to the growth of the country.
Therefore, as responsible citizens, we should honour their labour and
commitment to preserving the nation's and our society's way of life. The
farmers feed the entire nation, but they themselves struggle for two square
meals a day. In addition, the farmers are committing suicide because of the
debts and burden of guilt that they cannot feed and provide a prosperous
life to their families. Many of the farmers are migrating to cities to find a
more stable source of income that can provide their family with a proper
food supply. If the condition of farmers’ suicide and migration continues,
then India will again become a food importer rather than exporter. Due to
large scale campaigning, the issue of suicide is highlighted. Before 1970,
India was not self-sufficient in producing food and imported a large quantity
from other countries. When our imports started blackmailing us, then Prime
Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri found an alternative and motivated our
farmers. After this, the Green Revolution started in India and we became
self-sufficient in this field. Moreover, we started exporting our surplus to the

other countries. They are self-employed and depend only on farming as

their main and only occupation. The main reasons for their suicide are the
repayment of loans which they are unable to repay due to various reasons.
In addition, the maximum number of farmers are forced to live in the state
of poverty. Above all, they are forced to sell their produce at a cost lower
than the M.S.P. We have passed a long way since independence, but we
need to do a lot. After doing this much for the economy, the villages,
farmers and the villagers still spend their life in misery. But, if we take the
matter seriously and try to resolve the problems of farmers, then a day will
come to the villages when they will become prosperous as the cities. As
individuals, we can observe that in the current socio-economic sector,
farmers are in the group which is most crucial to the advancement of the
country. Their participation in society, whether direct or indirect, has a big
impact on the development. Farmers work in the agricultural industry. A
large portion of the nation's economy also depends on the farmers. Farmers
make up more than half of the global population and many of them live in
developing nations. The farmers have to be very persistent and patient in
their labour. To harvest crops, they have to wait several days, months and
even years. Farmers employ a variety of tools to produce crops at various
stages such as tractors, water pumps, fertilisers, etc. They work incredibly
with the aid of these tools. Their agricultural productivity is significantly
influenced by the climatic conditions. If climatic conditions are favourable,
then the agriculture field of the nation will be at the top. Thus, farmers are

essential to the national revenue in many developing countries. The most

difficult aspect of farming is the labour. We are fortunate to have them.
Various new and unique jobs exist in the generation of modern technology.
Still, some jobs often remain traditional due to their significance in every
era. One of those roles is being a farmer. Sometimes, farmers are not even
able to produce enough to even fill the stomachs of their own families.
Moreover, wild animals attacking the produce is also one of the factors
where animals like elephants destroy the crops and the wild animals kill the
cattle for farming. Farmers are one of the most influential people in the
world. Their living structure tells us everything about how to live in a society.
Their dedication and hard work are very appreciable. They work sleepless
nights to produce the crops to reach our homes and quench our hunger.
That is why, because of them, food security is maintained in a country. Day
by day, the needs of farmers will become more critical than today and we,
as responsible citizens, should appreciate their hard work and determination
and help them whenever we find this opportunity to do so. We should be
blessed to have the farmers in our lives. We are blessed to have farmers in
our lives. A farmer is essential to the country and ultimately, the world. They
are the food producers for the people and are considered the backbone of
the economic system. To achieve this, they sometimes work sleepless nights
for a continuous supply of the resources. They also ensure the country's
food security and serve as a source of livelihood. The country is self-
sufficient due to the production of its crops which is only made possible by

the laborious efforts of the farmers. Farmers are the soul of the nation. They
earn from the crops which they sell to vendors, landowners and the
Government. According to the Economic Survey of 2020-21, the share of
agriculture in the G.D.P. has reached 20%. There are many issues that
farmers face. The problems can be economical or they can be
environmental. Farmers’ dependency on nature is a lot. They depend on the
seasons, weather conditions, rain, water availability, electricity supply, etc.
Due to their high dependency, they suffer significantly in the harsh
conditions such as heavy rainfall, drought, wild animals, extensive heat, etc.
During rainy seasons, the crops get damaged by heavy rainfall and fed away
with the water and due to this, there is great economic loss to the farmers.
During drought, the lack of water makes the crops dry and it again deals
with the loss of the economy.
