Day 1
Learn Notation Names

Just as we all have names, the keys of keyboard also has names
by which we address them. There are different ways in which
we call them. Let us understand this with an example.

There is a person called Harsh. Now, his mom call him Kanha
(nick name), his friends call him Harshu, his boss calls him
Harsh.

What do we understand from this is that any single person can

have various names depending upon who is calling him. Just
like that, a key on the keyboard (piano) can also have various
names which dependson the culture of the country.

In ancient India, the music scholars call the keys by the name of
Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa.

In other countries, people say C, D, E, F, G, A, B.

Some also use Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti.

And this continues.

In this course we will learn the names which are most widely
used. The names which is recognized on the global level so that
every artist gets on a same page to communicate the language
of music.

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

You need to memorize the names here because there is no
other way. Once you memorize, you will definitely forget the
names in a day or two but constant practice will make this
process smooth as butter.

Here is the chart that will help you remember the name of
notes.

Chart for notes:

Here, two octaves are given with both ‘#’ notes and ‘b’ notes.
Just remember that each black key has two names. You can
remember just one. It is up to you.

Day 2
Learn Finger Exercises

Today we will focus on some finger exercises whichwill help you

get your fingers on piano.

Exercise 1:

CDEFGFED
DE F G A G F E
EF G A B A G F
FG A B C B A G
GA B C D C B A
AB C D E D C B
BC D E F E D C
CD E F G F E D

Finger Positions: 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2

Exercise 2:

GFEDCDEF
AGFEDEFG
BAGFEFGA
CBAGFGAB
DCBAGABC
EDCBABCD
FEDCBCDE
GFEDCDEF

Finger positions: 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 4

These 2 exercises will make your right hand fluent. You just
need to make sure that you play this exercises comfortably with
increasing the speed for practice. For this lesson, you do not
need to use any metronome or beat. Firstly just practice with
without beats to make your hands comfortable.

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

Day 3
Learn Metronome

A metronome is a device used by musicians to keep a steady

beat or tempo while practicing. It emits a regular, audible click
or beep at a set interval, which helps musicians stay in time with
the rhythm of the music they’re playing. The interval between
clicks is adjustable, allowing the musician to set a specific
tempo (measured in beats per minute, or BPM). Metronomes
can be mechanical, electronic, or app-based, and they are a
valuable tool for improving timing and rhythm.

In today’s generation, we do not need to purchase the device, it

is easily available in our keyboard and also there are applications
that does the work of metronome.

And we have also used an application for metronome so that

everyone who follows the course understand the concept.

This is the applications:

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

Here is the link to the application:

For android users:

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/metronome-beats-bpm-
counter/id1486779670

For Ios (Apple) users:

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/metronome-beats-bpm-
counter/id1486779670

Now, after downloading the application, you need to make sure

about the two things.

1. It is set to 4 beats.

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

2. Make sure to turn the first circle red.

Initially it will be yellow. Once you click on that button it

will turn red. That will make the sound of 1stbeat different
from the rest 3.

Now initially keep the tempo 80. Scroll the numbers that you
see on the screen and make it 80.

As you hear the beat sounds, clap with those beats. Clap on
each sound that you hear. Once you are comfortable, increase
the speed. Make that 80 number to 90, 100, 110, 150 as high as
you can.

Then after clapping, take a piano note. Just select any of the key
and play that single key just as you clapped. Start with 80 and
take it to 150.

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

Now, comes the real lesson.

The exercises that we have learnt in day 2, recall that. Now with
each beat you need to play each note.

As you can see in the above diagram there are 4 circles (1 red & 3
yellow). With each circle you need to play 1 note of the exercise.
There are 8 notes in each group of the exercise. This means that
with 2 rounds of 4beat we will complete 1 group.
We need to play whole 2 exercises just like this. Start with 80
and final stage should be 150.

Here, 1 2 3 4 represents beat counts, (4 circles that is in the

chart)

Exercise 1:

1 2 34 1 2 3 4

Day 5
Learn Major scales

Before learning major scales, we need to learn two terms.

1.Semitone (Half step)
2.Tone (Whole Step0

Semitone = Just next key.

Just next key of any key is the semitone of that note. Example,
‘C’ is the key played, then ‘C#’ note will be the semi tone of ‘C’
note.
Semi tone of ‘E’ note will be ‘F’ note.

Tone = Next to next key

Next to next key of any key is the tone of that note. Example, ‘C’
is the key played, the ‘D’ note will be the tone of ‘C’ note.
Tone of ‘E’ note will be ‘F#’ note.

By using these terms we will make a formula for major scales.

Major Scales:

- T T ST T T T ST

“-“ refers to the Root note

14

Jash Gotawala PIX Series

“T” refers to the Tone
“ST” refers to the Semitone

Let’s put it in example.

C Major scale

Formula: - T T ST T T T ST
Notes: CDE F G AB C

Here, Root note is the same note as of the scale. Example, root
note of C major scale is ‘C’. Root note of F major scale is ‘F’ Note.

Now, when putting ‘C’ as root note, Tone of ‘C’ is ‘D’ and then we
need to continue the formula.

C MAJOR SCALE

Notes: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C
Fingering (LH): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1
Fingering (RH): 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Day 6
Learn Minor scales

Let us now learn the formula for minor scales.

Minor Scales:

- T ST T T ST T T

“-“ means root note

“T” means Tone
“ST” means Semitone

Let us now see an example.

A Minor Scale

Formula: - T ST T T ST T T
Notes: AB C DE F G A

Here, root note of A minor scale is ‘A’ note as there are no minor
notes. There are only minor scales, chords.
Root note of E minor scale is ‘E’ note.
Root note of F minor scale is ‘F’ note.

Note: Here finger positions for both hands are given. You can choose either
you want to play with just right hand or want to add left hand too. My
suggestion would be if you are a beginner or starting to learn piano then in
this case you just need to practice with your right hand. No need to play
with left hand right now.

Day 7
Learn More Exercises

Today, we will learn some of the exercises for our 4th& 5thfinger.
As these fingers are naturally weak fingers of our hands, we
need to train those fingers to get smooth playing of piano.
Naturally we tend to avoid using those fingers which may cause
slow fingers or not proper playing.

The exercise of this day will help you make this fingers fluent.
