Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our
dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide
you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson
prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on
lessons in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on
completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or your
teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the
end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-
check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity
and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the
Teacher are also provided to our facilitators and parents for
strategies and reminders on how they can best help you on your
home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary
marks on any part of this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in
answering the exercises and tests. And read the instructions
carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in
answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your
teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at
your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the
contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
The module is intended for you to use/respond appropriately
to drawing and identifying the terms related to a circle.

A circle is a set of all points in a plane that are at a fixed
distance from point called center.

The radius is the distance from the center of the circle to any
point on its perimeter.
The circumference of a circle is the perimeter of the circle.
A secant is a line that passes through any two points on a
circle.
A chord is a line that joins two points on the circumference of
a circle.
The diameter is a chord that passes through the center of a
circle.
A tangent is a line that touches the circle at only one point.
An arc is a part of the circumference. A sector is the part of a
circle between two radii.
A segment is the part of a circle that is between a chord and
the circumference.
A semicircle is a half of a circle.
A compass is an instrument used to draw circles or the parts
of circles called arcs. It consists of two movable arms hinged
together where one arm has a pointed end and the other arm
holds a pencil.

I Have Learned
I have learned that a CIRCLE…
is a closed plane or flat curve.
has every point on its edge equidistant from a fixed point
within the center of the circle.
has a center point in the middle.
has a radius, a line from the center point to any point on the
edge of the curve.
has a diameter, a line from one edge of the curve passing
straight on the center point to the opposite edge.
has other terms related to its circumference called arcs.
has other terms related to lines passing through it.
has other terms related to its surface.
can be drawn perfectly by a compass.
I Can Do
Draw five (5) circles using a compass with the following radius:
1. 5 cm
2. 2 inches
3. 4 cm
4. 2.5 inches
5. 3 cm
