Which Movies Genres Are You Drawn
To?

1.Draw up a List Movie Genres you are

drawn to?
-Unexpectedly Yours (Romance and Comedy)
-Seven Sundays (Drama)
2.Identify the key elements of these genres
(typical, plot, main characters, emotional
impact, themes, imagery, film techniques.)
 Unexpectedly yours
(Typical)- Patty (Sharon Cuneta) crazy
escapade starts with her friends throwing her
a birthday bash in an upscale hotel
room. Sharon gets drunk and mistakenly
collapses in the room of Cocoy (Robin Padilla).
(Plot)- On the eve of her 50th birthday, Patty
finds her drunk and desperate self in the arms
of Cocoy. As it turns out, Cocoy is not only her
neighbor, but her old high school schoolmate
who's always been secretly in love.
(Main Characters)- Patty (Sharon Cuneta),
Cocoy (Robin Padilla), Yanni (Julia Baretto),
and Jason (Joshua Garcia)
(Emotional Impact)- The impact is no way
diminished by having her acknowledge the
same thing in a self-deprecating way, only
made worse by her trying to act seductive all
of a sudden.
(Themes)- Two former batchmates feel sparks
fly when they become neighbors and help
organize their high school reunion together.
(Imagery)- Cocoy (Robin Padilla) and Patty
(Sharon Cuneta) exhibited a mad case of
“kilig” brought the movie house down,
garnering a lot of screams from the audience.
Sharon may have some added padding, but
her innate beautiful personality still shines
through.
(Film Technique)- Know your worth. Love has
no expiration date. Mothers have your best
interest at heart. Don’t be afraid to let go.

 Seven Sundays
(Typical)- The story begins with a widowed
father of four who announces his imminent
death. Despite their personal differences, the
siblings spend Sundays together, reminiscing
childhood memories. They discuss their
father's troubles, and the father's doctor's
wrong diagnosis is revealed. The eldest son,
Allan, convinces the father to reveal the truth
in their next gathering. The family confronts
Brian and Cha about their father's marital
problems, leading to painful exchanges. Allan
apologizes to Brian and Dex, and they visit
Cha's house. They meet their father at their
mother's grave, discussing his sacrifices and
resolving their issues. The story ends with the
revival of Allan's store and a dance
showdown.
(Plot)- The father of 4 announces to his kids
that he is going to die soon. This father is a
widow who feels lonely and misses the
company of his grown-up kids. Upon learning
of their father's condition, the siblings decide
to spend time with one another on Sundays.
(Main Characters)- Capt. Manuel Bonifacio
(Ronaldo Valdez), Allan (Aga Muhlach), Brian
(Dingdong Dantes), Cha (Cristine Reyes), and
Dex (Enrique Gil)
(Emotional Impact)- It is predictable,
unimaginative, and gets in its dramatic and
comedic moments overly sensationalized.
(Themes)- Four estranged siblings are asked
by their dying father to get together for seven
Sundays, forcing them to confront their
issues.
(Imagery)-The youngest son, who is
attempting to come to terms with the loss of
his father as well as the secrets that his father
harbored.
(Film Technique)- This movie is to make us see
the importance of the family. We cannot say the
day of your time in this world so you should love
your family, spend time to them, feel them that
they are always especial before it's too late.
3.Find samples of posters of movies that you
really like. See if the elements in the movies
are already presented in the posters alone.
4.Specify which elements of the movies
genres you like draw you to watch.
-Drama, Romance and Comedy

5.Determine the patterns of meanings that

the movies you like reinforce every time you
watch (e.g., love conquers all; family is the
most important thing in the face of disasters;
a hero never loses; escape to other worlds is
the best entertainment.)
-Family is being loved completely and despite
your flaws by someone. Family is the one who
helped you in trouble. Family is one of those
people who will never let you down. Family is
stability.
