occur.

Lesson 1
Understand the difference between acute and chronic sport injuries.

What are sport injuries?

Sports injuries are physical damage that occur during any sports or exercise
activities.

Two types of injuries:

Acute injuries happen suddenly, such as when a person galls, receives a blow, or
twists a joint. These are the types of injuries you would typically see in a PE lesson.

Chronic injuries result from overusing one body area over a long period. Examples
of chronic injuries are stress fractures and heal inflammation. Signs of a chronic
injury include pain when performing an activity. Often you will have a dull ache
when at rest.

 In-direct/ non-contact injuries
 Overuse injuries

Direct/Contact Injuries: Happen from a direct hit or impact, like colliding with someone or something.
Examples are bruises, fractures, or dislocations.

Indirect/Non-Contact Injuries: Happen without physical impact from others, usually from awkward
movements, like twisting or pivoting suddenly. Examples are sprains or muscle tears.

Overuse Injuries: Happen over time from repeated stress, like running or swimming a lot without
enough rest. Examples are tendinitis and shin splints.
