Woman: Has the village got somewhere to swim or a cinema?
Man: It’s very quiet. There’s just a small supermarket that sells food.
Woman: I don’t mind that. Can I take my car to the park?
Man: Yes. But you must leave it at the entrance with the other cars and buses. Visitors
must walk through the park.
Woman: And how much does it cost to go in?
Man: From Mondays to Fridays everyone pays twelve dollars, but at weekends it’s
thirteen dollars for children and sixteen dollars for adults.
Woman: Right. Will I see any animals in the park next month?
Man: I don’t think so. But it’s the best time to go! There won’t be any snow and the

Jamie: Hi, Mum! I’ve decided to move from my room at the university and into a flat
with some friends.
Mum: Is the flat near the university, Jamie?
Jamie: About twenty minutes by bicycle and there are buses every half hour. But I’ll
walk through the park and have breakfast at a café there with – my friends.
Mum: Will the flat be quiet so you can study?
Jamie: There’s a shoe shop downstairs, but it’s never busy, and there’s not much traffic.
Mum: Is it expensive?
Jamie: Two hundred pounds a week, but there are five of us, so that’s forty pounds
each, which isn’t bad.
Mum: Good. Does the flat have a nice kitchen?
Jamie: Well, the fridge is old and the cooker’s a bit small, but that doesn’t matter – we
can’t cook! Can I still use your washing machine, Mum, because there isn’t one there?

Sue: I suppose Mike was there in that suit he always wears.
Janet: He was in jeans – but they were black and he looked great.
Sue: Was he with Michelle? She wanted to wear my white jacket, but it was too small.
Janet: She had on a blue Chinese dress, and Rachel was wearing blue too.
Sue: I know, the blouse with the silver buttons – I’ve seen her in it before. It looks
lovely with her silver shoes.
Janet: Jason came straight from work, so he’d still got on that T-shirt he wears at the

Sue: Well, the girls all had nice clothes anyway. Let’s hope I can come to the next party.

Jim: Not many shops sell them. I got mine at the market, but they may have some at the

Sarah: How much were they?
Jim: I think they usually cost sixty-eight pounds, but mine were only forty-eight – so I
paid twenty pounds less. I was really pleased.
Sarah: I’ll get some this afternoon. Is there anything else special I should take?
Jim: Well, pack a hat, because the sun can be strong in the mountains. I took a sweater

Sarah: Anything else?
Jim: Take lots of T-shirts, one for each day you’re going to go walking.
Sarah: That’s five days of my week’s holiday. And what about taking a phone?
Jim: Well, there’ll be one in your hotel, if you want to call home. But take yours,

Eva: I know Mary loves drawing water. Did she go to the river?
David: She went to the sports centre and drew some children having a swimming

Eva: We were walking to the market together but then he saw someone cleaning
windows in the bank and he stopped to draw that.
David: Cristina is the best artist. I saw her in Bridge Street sitting at a table having a

Man: Really? Was your plane ticket expensive?
Dawn: Well, most people pay three hundred and fifty pounds, but my student ticket

hundred pounds.
Man: Great! Did you stay in a student hotel?

Dawn: I was so lucky! My mother’s old schoolfriend let me use her apartment. That

Girl: Hi Duncan. How was your tennis course at the weekend?
Duncan: Well, I was actually there for five days, not two.
Girl: Oh! Was the hotel nice?
Duncan: Beautiful! We were high up in the mountains. We looked down on the lake,
where we swam every morning, and across to the town on the other side.
Girl: Was the teacher good?
Duncan: Excellent. He’s worked here in England for ages but he was born in Canada, so
he speaks French and English.
Girl: I’d like to do the course. Was it very expensive?
Duncan: Um, the full price in the summer is two hundred and sixty-five pounds, but it
only cost me two hundred and five pounds because I’m a student. In the autumn it’s less
– a hundred and eighty-five pounds.
Girl: Hmm. Did you have to buy anything special?
Duncan: I already had tennis clothes, and the hotel had racquets and balls, but I got
some new shoes because my old tennis ones were too small.
Girl: What did you do in the evenings?
Duncan: Sometimes we watched videos of tennis matches, but on the last night we
danced and sang songs in the hotel garden. That was great!

James: I’m no good at choosing presents, Amy! I’m going to call all Sally’s friends and

stay later to do half an hour extra exercises, but you don’t have to.
Frank: OK. What do I need to bring?
Jessica: Just wear comfortable sports clothes. You can leave your trainers at home,
because the teacher doesn’t want us to wear shoes. And bring lots to drink.
Frank: I’m not very fit. Is that a problem?
Jessica: No, there are people of all ages there and lots of them aren’t very fit. But tell
the teacher if you have never done dance classes before.
Frank: Are the classes expensive?

Jessica: The price has just changed from five pounds to six pounds. It’s still a good

Suzy: Yes, they need shop assistants. The sign in the window says, if you are interested,
