INTRODUCTION:

Group 1 composed of the Mechanical Engineering students, brilliant and

hardworking from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, looked fixedly at the
dismantled e-trike in front of them at the site where we were instructed. Rows of wire
were welded together haphazardly, three brittle controllers were visible, and half of a
motor had been removed from the vehicle’s damaged shell. A lot of electrical equipment
which has undergone severe corrosion with some of the electric motors even getting
totally destroyed to the extent that they cannot be rewound, rusted chassis and expired
batteries. It really looked like the e-trikes were utilized to an extent which resulted in its
current state.

The nature, extent and intensity of the required repairs, also the absence of any electric
motor repair experience among the different technicians make it look more like a
complicated and expensive task which will require a lot of time and money repairing the
damages. It is important to conduct an evaluation in order to determine whether a repair
is necessary in the first instance. Their mission, to replace this old model of electric
tricycle, with this enhanced version, had been rooted in a major challenge. As for the
wiring, the previous owner had done some very random work that had turned the wires
into an enigma that really showed the talents they had along with their patience. There
was a pressure building up and the last presentation near, it was time for action.

The general tone was one of purpose even though the road map to get there seemed far
from perfect. It looked like something that you really have to have deep analysis to be
able to pull off. Every one of us, with our particular specialization and organization
passion, went through the problem step by step. They went on and carefully looked
through the e-trike and decoded the back while exposing the defective wires and other
elements. The air was tense with the sound of a group of people hard at work, the slight
whispers as people discussed with one another, the click of a conclusion was made. This
was not going to be the end of their task to bring this e-trike back to its state and even
better than before Group 1, was up for the job.

FINDING/S:

● The electric motor has been parted out. It would require general windings since some of
the electric motors have their copper coil opened.
● It would require a large budget ranging from 8,000-40,000 pesos per e-trike.
● It would require tools and special tools.
● It would consume a lot of time. 2-3 hours a week or per schedule would not be enough in
a span of 3-6 months to finish.
● Lack of knowledge of electric engines. Some of us only have experience fixing diesel and
gasoline engines.
● The E trike's chassis is not in good condition. All of the e-trikes have corroded and rusted
flooring and shells.
● Expired/not working batteries. All of the batteries had swelled or expired.
● Expired, punctured, and flat tires.
● Breaks are nowhere to be found.
● Broken/missing side mirrors
● Control panel and gauges missing
● Missing wire harnesses.
● Some wire harnesses have been repaired (naka rekta to other connection)
● Paint faded.
● Headlights missing/not working.
● Seat need upholstery
● The accelerator cable is rusted/not working
● Broken electric control unit
● Ignition switch missing
● Missing screws on some parts
● Battery box isn’t in a good condition

DOCUMENTATION/S:

● The group's first meeting was held on November 22, 2024, led by Mr. Hur Ferarren.
During the meeting, they began discussing the defects of the electric trike. We looked at
the pile that was parted out from the pile.

● It was clear that the battery was either not functioning or expired. The electric motors
were rusty and partially dismantled. The electric controllers had been disconnected from
the e-trike. Additionally, there were numerous multi-colored wires and electrical
harnesses tangled among the housing parts, connectors, and other components.

● The electric trike was in poor condition, with several parts, including the flooring and
shell, showing signs of rust. It was completely broken, requiring repairs to all its
components. The tires were flat and worn out, and both the side mirror and chair were
damaged.

● The meeting ended with the members noting the damage to the electric trike and sharing
their thoughts about it.

RECOMMENDATION/S:

After a thorough assessment, purchasing a newer e-trike may be a more cost-effective and
practical solution than repairing the old, broken one. This approach would save on potential
recurring maintenance expenses and ensure improved reliability and efficiency moving forward.

We would like to propose an alternative approach for our project and activity. Instead of focusing
on troubleshooting or attempting to fix the e-trikes, we suggest engaging, either as a team or
individually, in identifying and studying the components of the car engine available at the
condotel.

This approach is more efficient as it is less time-consuming compared to working on the e-trikes
and takes advantage of the readily available second-hand resources. As Mechanical Engineering
students, we believe this is the most practical option since it will provide us with hands-on
experience and a deeper understanding of machinery related to our field.

Repairing the car at the condotel would have a greater academic impact, serving as an advanced
practical experience that could significantly benefit our future studies.

Suppose it is not possible to shift to basic troubleshooting on cars. In that case, we propose
repairing just one e-trike as a complete unit as a whole section for better efficiency and resource
management. While the repair is still feasible, we kindly request adequate time to complete the
work, as we are also managing other responsibilities and tasks that require our attention.

CONCLUSION:

● We concluded that an extensive renovation of the e-trikes' units would require a

substantial investment of time and technical knowledge. During the inspection of e-trikes,
we found severe damages which included corroded and rusted parts, non-functioning
motors and batteries, and missing vital parts. Fixing and renovating these damaged
e-trikes would be expensive and time-consuming. However, we suggest that we focus on
researching and troubleshooting the site's vehicle engine components, for us to meet the

academic goals while using constrained resources. Furthermore, if repairing the e-trikes
is still necessary, we will give priority to the restoration of a single unit for effectiveness
and viability
