EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING CONTEST
Mechanics/Guidelines:
1. The Extemporaneous Speech Contest is open to Grade 11 students, with only one
representative allowed per section.
2. The topic shall be given on the spot by the judges.
3. Speeches shall be delivered in English.
4. The participants will be given 30 minutes to prepare their speech after the topic was
given.
5. All speeches must be original compositions created by the participants.
6. Speeches should not exceed 7 minutes, with a warning at the 6-minute mark. There
will be a 1-point deduction for every 30-second overtime from the respective judges’
total score before determining the rank of the participants.
7. Discriminatory language or content, including but not limited to hate speech,
offensive slurs, and derogatory remarks based on race, gender, religion, sexual
orientation, or other protected characteristics, is not allowed.
8. The use of electronic devices for reference or assistance during the preparation
period is strictly prohibited.
9. Participants are expected to dress in smart casual attire. Neat and presentable
clothing is encouraged, and attire should adhere to the school's dress code policy.
10. Judges will evaluate speeches based on the following criteria:
a. Content and Substance - 30%
b. Organization and Structure - 20%
c. Language and Style - 20%
d. Delivery and Presentation - 15%
e. Time Management - 15%
