My proposed research title is “How can tang chinese influence on japanese architecture be

preserved from westernization of japan”

After meiji restoration when japan started to westernize as a result of jesuits the architecture
changed heavily such examples is tokyo station which was originally going to be Momoyama
design by Kingo Tatsuno but Emperor Meji disliked this idea and proposed that the station must
be in a foreign style. Jesuits wanted a way of showing dominance in power within the country so
they refused to build major buildings in traditional japanese styled architecture and proposed
only foreign european/ jesuit style. Japanes architecture being influenced from buddhism, tang
chinese, shintoism etc (traditional japanese architecture) started to loose its influence on
modern japanese architecture as cities like tokyo started to become very westernized. Japanese
architecture is build to align with aspects of nature and have many common attributes such as
Red and gold represent peace of mind, which are 2 main aspects of Japanese architecture. Red
also represents warrior color, for those who protect the innocent and helpless, but when
unredeemed, is the color of nemesis. Too much stuff to explain but japanese architecture goes
along nature and is supposed to elevate spirit from its details. Traditional japanese architecture
originates from tang china which represented ballance and peace, confucian ideals. It was
during Asuka, Nara and Heian periods 6th - 12th century when japans architecture started to
take influence from tang china which is where the curved roofs, pagoda structures, buddhist
temples etc originate from. Nature, gardens, water features, tea houses, shinto shrines is when
japanese architecture started to diverse from tang chinese architecture which emphsized more
on inner self, attention to detail and patience. Shintoshrines originally built as a way to show
emphasis to the kami(divinity) in nature. Some of my definitions are Tang Chinese which refers
to Tang Dynasty, I use this term specifically to identify tang chinese architecture, Buddhism
which in origin are teachings from Buddha on how to reach nirvana which now has turned into a
form of buddha worship after many centuries which is what we see alot in japanese temples
such as sensoji, todaiji, zojoji and many other temples through japan. Shintoism, a spiritual
tradiation of indigenous japan which taught that divinity ecomposed all nature but now is a form
of kami worship which is belief that spirits, dieties etc are possessed in everything within nature
hence there are shinto shrines everywhere dedicated to nature etc. Kami which means divine
diety, I believe originally kami was used as a term to describe creator but the term for heavily
founder / god in japanese is tentei still used by koshin sect of toaism which is monothiest. In
chinese the word for heavily creator is shanghdi so that is also monothiest in origin. Kami today
is now used to describe any deity that is known to found in nature, it is called kami. Literature
has told me so far that the further japanese architecture is modernized the more its originality is
lost causing japanese national identity to be forgotten as japanese architecture plays the largest
role in that from what I see and with connection to nature. I assume by year 2050 japan will be
just a bunch of glass square triangle buildings like everywhere else (known as smart cities by
world ecenomic forum.. To digitalize everything and eventually move everything to 7G which is
mobile network but proven not to be good for peoples health.. Right now we are on 5G tho). My
proposed method of inquiry is to emphasize architecture to be inspired more heavily on this
traditional japanese architecture as it would make cities much prettier and make people feel
more inspired and connected with nature which would also naturally increase the population in
japan. My methodology of research is descriptive research because my research requires
research into multpople influences on japanese architecture its true origin when it comes to
connection with nature / divinity which requires good understanding of japanese architecture
and how it was properly used during its time (Bushido era and before)
