ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL, NOIDA

GANIT WEEK 2024-25 REPORT

Dates: 17th to 20th December 2024

Ganit Week 2024-25 at Army Public School, Noida, was a vibrant celebration of
mathematics, designed to engage students across various grades through a series of
creative, intellectual, and hands-on activities. Held from 17th to 20th December 2024, the
week was filled with exciting events aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and
appreciation of mathematics among students.

• Primary Colours (BV1 Activity)

In this engaging activity, students explored the fundamental concept of primary colours—
red, blue, and yellow—through a dynamic math-based challenge. The objective was to help
students identify, recognize, and categorize these colours while associating them with
mathematical patterns. This interactive approach not only enhanced their understanding of
colours but also integrated math concepts in a creative manner.

• Numerical Knockout
Class 1 students actively participated in the "Numerical Knockout," a high-energy game
designed to sharpen their basic arithmetic skills. In this competitive challenge, students
answered rapid-fire math questions to advance through the competition. The game
promoted a spirit of healthy competition while boosting the students' speed, accuracy, and
confidence in solving mathematical problems.
• 2D Shapers
In this hands-on geometry activity, class 2 students explored the world of two-dimensional
shapes. Working individually, they used paper cutouts and drawing tools to create and label
different 2D shapes, such as squares, triangles, and circles. This exercise was designed to
reinforce the properties of 2D shapes, including sides, angles, and symmetry. The students
showed great enthusiasm in applying their knowledge, and the activity successfully fostered
a deeper appreciation of geometric concepts and their applications in the real world.

• Fraction Art
Class 3 students embraced the concept of fractions through an innovative and creative
"Fraction Art" activity. Using various fraction-based cutouts, students designed visually
appealing artwork that illustrated the idea of fractions as equal parts of a whole. This artistic
approach to teaching fractions helped solidify their foundational understanding of the topic,
making it both engaging and educational.
• Clay and Stick Creation
Class 4 students participated in an interactive 3D modeling activity where they constructed
three-dimensional shapes, such as cubes, pyramids, and prisms, using modeling clay and
toothpicks. They further documented the properties of these shapes, including the number
of faces, edges, and vertices, on an A4 sheet. This activity provided students with a hands-on
understanding of 3D shapes and their properties, promoting active learning and retention of
geometric principles.

• Math Marathon
Class 5 students demonstrated their mathematical prowess in the "Math Marathon," a
series of timed challenges that tested their understanding of fundamental mathematical
operations, including fractions, decimals, and simplification. This event encouraged problem-
solving, critical thinking, and quick decision-making under pressure. The enthusiasm and
energy of the students were evident as they raced against the clock to solve math problems,
making the event both exciting and rewarding.

• Shape Your Letter – A Mathematical Masterpiece

For Class 6, this innovative activity encouraged students to creatively design a letter from the
word "Mathematics" using basic geometric shapes such as triangles, squares, and rectangles
on graph paper. In addition to the artistic aspect, students calculated the area of their letter
by counting the squares enclosed within the shape, thereby reinforcing key concepts of
geometry and area calculation.
• Symmetry Safari – Warli Art Design
Class 7 students immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra by
incorporating the traditional Warli art form into their work. Using geometric shapes
prevalent in Warli designs, students created intricate paintings that demonstrated the
connection between mathematics and symmetry in art. This activity not only honed their
creativity but also deepened their understanding of symmetry and geometry.

• Pattern Pandemonium – Mathematical Illusions

For Class 8, students collaborated to create mathematical illusions, which were presented on
chart paper. This activity challenged their visualization skills, as they explored the interplay
of patterns and geometry to produce optical illusions, demonstrating the fascinating world
of mathematical art.
• Brain Brawl – Mathematics Quiz Competition
An inter-class quiz competition, "Brain Brawl," was organized for students of Classes 9 and
11. The quiz tested their mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills across various
topics. The preliminary round was conducted on 17th December, with the top teams
progressing to the final round on 19th December. The competition fostered a spirit of
healthy competition and showcased the students' prowess in mathematics.

• Bagless Day – A Day of Fun with Mathematics

On 20th December 2024, Bagless Day was observed for Classes 6 to 8, providing students
with a day filled with engaging and interactive math-based activities. The first half of the day
took place on the school grounds, where students participated in innovative games such as
Human Geometry, Maths Dodgeball, Maths Basketball, Maths Penalty Kick, and the Maths
Frisbee Challenge. These activities were designed to integrate physical movement with
mathematical concepts in a fun and dynamic way.
The second half of the day featured a workshop conducted by Mrs. Ishita Mukherjee in the
school auditorium. During this session, students were immersed in a variety of intellectually
stimulating activities, including brainstorming sessions, math puzzles, and problem-solving
challenges, which further enhanced their critical thinking and analytical skills.
Conclusion:
Ganit Week 2024-25 was a resounding success, bringing mathematics to life for the students
through a variety of creative, interactive, and thought-provoking activities. The event not
only strengthened their mathematical skills but also fostered a sense of curiosity and
enjoyment towards the subject. Army Public School, Noida, continues its commitment to
innovative learning, ensuring that students grow both academically and creatively.
