V Formation

Instructions
Cast on 132 stitches with US3. Place a beginning of the round marker.
Hat will be worked in the round, joining in first round. Work a K2, P2
rib for 1.5 inches. Change to a US5 and begin cable pattern.

Cable pattern:
Round 1 Knit.
Round 2 Knit. Materials
Round 3 Knit.
Yarns: 1 skein Juniper Moon Farms
Round 4 (C6F, K6) to end of round.
Herriot; 218yds/100g.
Round 5 Knit. Needles: US3 & US5, 16” circular & DPNs
Round 6 Knit. Notions: Stitch marker & tapestry needle.
Round 7 Knit. Gauge: 1 cable repeat of 12 sts = 1.5” in
Round 8 (K6, C6B) to end of round.

Repeat above 8 rounds, 4 more times ending after working a round 8. Abbreviations
Decrease Crown of Hat: K=Knit
P=Purl
Round 1: (K4, K2tog, K6) to end of round. (121 stitches)
C6F= slip next 3 stitches to a cable
Round 2: Knit.
needle & hold in front. Knit next 3
Round 3: (K3, K2tog, K6) to end of round. (110 stitches)

Round 4: (C4F, K6) to end of round. C6B= slip next 3 stitches to a cable

Round 7: (K4, SSK, K3) to end of round. (88 stitches) K2tog= Knit next 2 stitches together.
Round 8: (K4, C4B) to end of round. SSK= Slip 2 stitches knitwise 1 at a time
Round 9: (K2, K2tog, K4) to end of round. (77 stitches) to right needle. Put the left needle into the
Round 10: Knit. 2 stitches and knit them together.
Round 11: (K1, K2tog, K4) to end of round. (66 stitches) C4F= slip next 2 stitches to a cable
Round 12: (C2F, K4) to end of round. needle & hold in front. Knit next 2
Round 13: (K2, SSK, K2) to end of round. (55 stitches) stitches. Knit 2 stitches from cable needle.
C4B= slip next 2 stitches to a cable
Round 14: Knit.
needle & hold in back. Knit next 2
Round 15: (K2, SSK, K1) to end of round. (44 Stitches)

Round 16: K2tog to end of round. (22 stitches) C2F= slip next 1 stitch to a cable needle &
Break yarn, weave yarn through remaining stitches with a tapestry hold in front. Knit next stitch. Knit 1
needle, cinch and weave in the end. Add your pom pom! stitch from cable needle.

We can learn a lot about teamwork and cooperation from Geese flying in V-Formation. The lead goose uses the most energy because it
is the first to break up the flow of air to give additional lift to the geese behind. When the lead goose gets tired, it goes to the back of
the V, where the wind is lightest and another goose moves to the front to take it’s turn in the most difficult spot. By flying together and
rotating responsibility, the whole flock travels 70% farther than each goose flying alone. We are better together! Be like geese
