Titanium dioxide :
Chronic Effects: Norm al application procedures for this product pose m inim al hazard as to the release of respirable
titanium diox ide dust, but grinding or sanding dried film s of this product m ay yield som e respirable
titanium diox ide. Although IARC has classified titanium diox ide as possible carcinogenic to hum an
(2B), their sum m ary concludes: "No significant ex posure to titanium diox ide is thought to occur during
the use of products which titanium diox ide is bound to other m aterials". O SHA does not regulate
titanium diox ide as a carcinogen. However, under 29CFR 1910.1200 the SDS m ust convey the fact that
titanium diox ide is a potential carcinogen to rats.
Carcinogenicity: Anim al evidence shows that high concentrations of pigm ent-grade (powdered) and ultrafine titanium
diox ide dust caused respiratory tract cancer in rats ex posed by inhalation.
