EARLY LIFE &
BACKGROUND
Anne Frank was born in Germany in 1929 to her parents
Otto and Edith Frank. Anne lived a normal life up until 1933
when she and her family were forced to flee due to Nazi
persecution of Jews. The anti-Jewish movement had been
impacting their life.
LIFE IN HIDING
In July of 1942, the Frank family had to go into hiding in the
Secret Annex above Otto Frank’s business. They were joined by
the Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer (a dentist).
They all lived mainly on the second and third floors of the annex.
The only way to enter the hiding place was through the secret
entrance, hidden behind the revolving bookcase.

SIGNIFICANCE
Anne Frank's diary is a profoundly significant account of
her experiences hiding from the Nazis during the
Holocaust. Through her reflections, it shows the tragedy of

The name "Kitty" for Anne Frank's diary came from Anne
herself. She addressed her diary entries to an imaginary
friend named Kitty. By writing to Kitty, Anne created a
sense of companionship, as if it were a trusted friend.
TRAGEDY
Following a betrayal, Anne Frank, along with her sister Margot
and mother Edith, was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. Despite
the tragic end to their lives, Otto Frank, Anne's father, emerged
as the sole survivor. In 1947, he published Anne's diary, ensuring
that her legacy endured. Today, Anne Frank's diary is one of the
most widely read books worldwide, serving as a reminder of the
Holocaust.
