Sub: Request for Permission to Conduct MBIU Inspection on Bridges Along ICTT Vallarpadam
Container Road- reg.
Respected Sir,
As you are aware, the rectification and strengthening works for the bridges along the ICTT
Vallarpadam Container Road are currently in progress. As part of these activities and as per the provision
of CA, we need to conduct a Mobile Bridge Inspection Unit (MBIU) inspection for all the bridges along
the project stretch.
The primary objective of this inspection is to assess and identify damages in critical structural components,
including bearings, pedestals, pier caps, abutments, etc. Since certain sections of these bridges are located
over water bodies, visual inspection from above is not feasible. The use of the MBIU unit is essential to
facilitate the inspection of the underside of the bridges.
In this regard, we plan to carry out the MBIU inspection starting from 11.01.2024. During the inspection, it
will be necessary to close the main carriageway (MCW) at bridge locations for a minimum duration of one
hour per bridge, depending on the span length and site conditions.
To ensure a smooth and safe execution of the inspection, we request the competent authority to issue an
official letter to the Kochi Traffic Police and the Mulavukadu Station House Officer (SHO), seeking the
necessary permissions for the planned closures.
