Statement of Purpose

Applicant : Muhammad Nauman Umar

Increasing one’s educational skills is ethically and morally right of every person. To get quality of education if
one has to leave his family, friends and his home town for a while then I think this is the least to pay. Because
an education is the wealth by which all other wealth of the world could be purchased. It’s just like as a normal
man and a blind man who can never be equal. This is the thing which my parents taught me every single day
and which always encourage me to enhance my knowledge. As far as Germany in particular is concerned, I
chose this place because of many top world engineering universities are there with latest equipment and
excellent research work. Particularly a lot of work is going on there on renewable energy and efficiently
controlling of Power related Systems which is my primary interest of work. Secondly there are many
opportunities for the talented international students to get quality of education from reputed institute of the
country with scholarships and prestigious grants. That is why I found Austria best for MS program.
After discussion and much internet surfing your university came to my knowledge. By knowing your university
research work and laboratory facilities I am extremely enthusiastic to get admission in your Telecommunication
Engineering degree which definitely is related with my primary interest. I have done B.E in Bachelor of
Electronic Engineering from Hamdard University Karachi, Pakistan. It is the biggest university in private sector
of Pakistan and also very well-known in Asia.
After completing my graduation degree with first class, I felt that I should gain some more experience working
in a research environment and also to gain first-hand knowledge of what the research scientist entails. I love
every moment of my work, especially the opportunity of writing two research papers, “IIR Filters Design
(Comparison of Backward Difference Method and Bilinear Transformation)” for my university as well as on
“Object Detection using Image Processing” which is being in my writing. My teachers not only appreciate my
work but suggested me that I have potential and I should go for higher studies.
University of Tu Wein especially it’s Faculty of Engineering is one of the finest and amongst the most
renowned department in Austria whose scientist research results are followed with great interest all across the
world and their research also ranked very well in international market. I select this university not only because
of top class faculty with around 4000 scientific employees of the faculty focus the research activities in their
relevant major areas by whom one can find a complete guidance for any subject related issues but also with its
well-equipped laboratories and renowned research centers that provide brilliant research facilities to students
which I find also very best for those students who wants to do research like me. So, I think pursuing my MS
program at your university would not only provide me subject matter experience but also through research
oriented study that would help me to fulfill my thirst of knowledge in my field of interest as well as lay
foundation for the fulfillment of my dream. Now about my academics,
My schooling helped me to develop better in the field of science right from the initial stages, with different
science experiments as well as with different technology festivals. From school days, I have always shown great
interest in mathematics and physics. Especially the diploma in Technical Training Program of Electronic
Equipment Troubleshooting helped me a lot to develop interest in electronic engineering. For undergraduate
studies, engineering with electronics as major was logically my first step.
Right since the beginning of my undergraduate study, area that has fascinated me was digital electronics and
controlling power of devices. My undergraduate program not only helped me to build a solid foundation of
Electronics Engineering fundamentals but also helped me to develop an overall perspective of the vast field of
engineering. My undergraduate program introduced me with wide array of courses which provides me strong
theoretical and practical knowledge, such as Wireless and Mobile Communications, Communication Systems,
Data Communication and Computer Networks, Digital Electronics, VLSI and Optoelectronics. My
performances not only in my core theory courses but also in laboratory works are consistently very good which
can be seen in my transcript.
I have executed projects related to my core courses, like 1) “Speed Controlling of DC motor using Pulse Wirth
Modulation” in which motor speed depends upon the duty cycle of input wave related with my Wireless and
Mobile Communications course. 2) “Length Counter based on Microprocessor Interfacing” which could count
object length from 10mm up to 10inches and “Level & Temperature Measurement using AVR Microcontroller”
related to Communication Systems. 3) “Remotely Controlling of Machine Operations using DTMF” which
includes controlling of different machines and its operations using single cell phones which is related with
Digital Electronics. My other course projects are Mini Wind Turbine, Taco Meter, 8-bit DAC and Digital Stop
Watch. These projects helped me to justify many course theories as well as to enhance my practical experience
and I think that this is just the beginning.
To polish my skills further, I have done training course of AVR Micro Controller, for better understanding of
assembly language and a course related to PLC (Siemens S7-300) with hardware assembling & installation and
its logic languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and Statement Logic) which helped me in my final
year project. These trainings helped me to make my gripe stronger on theoretical concepts and practical side as
well. I have learned C, OOP and C-Sharp computer languages and due to my habit of self-study I got to be able
to know very basic about JAVA language.
My final year project was “Energy Storage System Based on Super Capacitors” which was based on the
principle of storing electrical energy in the form of electrostatic charge. Energy Storage Systems based on Super
Capacitors find applications in various fields including transportation (electric vehicles, hybrid buses, trains),
renewable energy integration (solar and wind farms, grid stabilization),consumer electronics (laptops, cameras,
smartphones), and industrial applications (UPS systems, power quality improvement).
To relate my theoretical knowledge during my studies I had an opportunity to work as an internee in Pakistan
Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) at Switching Center of Alcatel, ZTE, EWSD and Wireless Local
Loop, which is biggest telecommunication company in Pakistan. This helps me to understand that why Nano-
electronics technology is being utilize in many communication systems.
After my under-graduate studies to gain industrial experience I completed training courses and worked as a Site
engineer and currently working as a Junior Satellite Engineer at Samaa Tv Multan where I learned how to
execute of routine satellite operations, Configuring and troubleshooting of TX and RX equipment’s and also
monitoring satellites uplink, downlink traffic and audio video quality.
Considering all my skills, work in different fields, thirst of knowledge and short experience, I think your
institution should provide me one opportunity to fulfill my dream, by giving me admission in Master
Programme Telecommunication and by allowing me work under experienced scholars and being a part of
exceptional research work. I am also aware that the university expects very high from its students but I assure
you that I will work hard to give your best and with all due respect I’m looking forward to prove myself.
