Lessons In Genesis:
Jacob & Laban
                                       (Genesis 29-31)
Introduction: 1. According to the Bible the reason God had the Old Testament written down
                     was for our learning.
              2. Romans 15:4.
              3. As we examine the life of some of the great characters of the Bible, we find
much to learn; from their failures as well as their faith.
              4. Let’s examine a few lessons from the lives of Jacob and Laban.
I. Laban Deceives Jacob
       A. (Genesis 29:16-28).
       B. Jacob desires to marry Rachel but is tricked into marrying Leah.
       C. (Numbers 32:23).
       D. (Genesis 27) Jacob deceives Abraham into giving him Esau’s blessing.
       E. Do you think it is an accident that God would record these particular events, or do
you think he may have been trying to drive home a point?
II. God Blesses Jacob
       A. (Genesis 30:26-43).
       B. Laban apparently had not be very fair in his treatment of Jacob.
       C. (Genesis 31:7).
       D. God blesses Jacob’s feeble attempts.
       E. (Ephesians 3:20).
       F. (James 4:1-6).
III. Laban Mistreated Jacob Unjustly
       A. (Genesis 31:2).
       B. Laban’s attitude changed because Jacob was successful and he was not.
       C. (Romans 12:15).
       D. (John 15:18-20).
       E. (1 Peter 4:12-16).
       F. (Romans 12:17-21).
Conclusion: 1. What God chose to record for the ages about Jacob, and his relationship with
his father-in-law serves to teach us some rather valuable lessons.
              2. Let us learn the lessons that we “reap what we sow.”
              3. Sin will always be punished and obedience will always be rewarded.
