Course Description:
This course will introduce students to basics concepts in high voltage technology. The introduction to high voltage
technology with the generation of high voltage and currents will be studied. Measurement of high voltage and currents
need of high voltage, voltage levels, the transient voltage will also be discussed. The ionization process using the
Townsend theory will be analysed. In high voltage technology, the cathode process, decay process, and streamer
breakdown will also be studied. Conduction and Breakdown in gases, liquid dielectrics and breakdown in solid
dielectrics are very important topics of high voltage technology, so also will be discussed in detail.
Main Topics to be Covered:
Introduction to high voltage technology.
Generation of high voltage and currents
Measurement of high voltage and currents need of high voltage, voltage levels, transient voltage.
Ionization, Townsend theory
Cathode process, decay process, streamer breakdown.
Conduction and Breakdown in gases, liquid dielectrics
Breakdown in solid dielectrics.
