Introduction
Practicing sports is essential for human beings, especially in the treatment of
illnesses and in the development of skills and abilities, especially in children and
young people who tend to suffer from health problems in their adult and elderly
phases. Sports promote health against possible future diseases, and there are
countless benefits in practicing sports activities, especially in schools.
The practice of sports is something that is very popular among people all over the
world today, and is part of people's daily lives due to the numerous benefits that
sports can provide, both as a form of leisure and for health.
In this brief article I will talk about some types of sports practiced today, focusing
on the best known and most practiced in our country. I will also talk about some
benefits for mental and motor health, as well as some basic rules, their origins
and more.

Development
1. Football
Football is the most popular team sport on the planet. According to data from the
International Federation of Football (FIFA), around 270 million people work in
activities directly related to the sport (whether as a player or as a referee.
Modern football emerged in England during the 19th century, but historical
accounts indicate that similar sports practices already existed.
1.1Basic rules of football
Football is a sport whose grass pitch is 105 meters long by 68 meters wide, a FIFA
standard. Two teams of 11 players play a match in which the objective is to score
as many goals as possible. Violent plays can be punished with yellow cards (which
serve as a warning) and red cards (which send the player off), and only the
goalkeeper can use his hands during the match. Fouls committed inside the area
are punished with a penalty kick (taken from a mark 11 meters from the goal).
Matches last 90 minutes (divided into two 45-minute halves), and breaks are
made up with additional time determined by the referee. In elimination matches,
commonly known as knockout matches, if the game is tied, extra time is played,
consisting of 30 minutes (divided into two 15-minute halves). If the match
remains tied, penalties will be taken to determine the winner.
1.2 Technological innovations
3
Technological innovations have contributed to the spread of the sport around the
world. Technology has also been increasingly used to show inaccuracies in referee
decisions. Television and high-resolution video resources show viewers all the
nuances of a match in real time. This makes it possible to view different angles of
a play, which often the refereeing team, players and fans on the field would not
be able to see.
2. Basketball
Invented in the United States, basketball has become one of the most popular
sports in the world.
Basketball is a team sport played by two teams, whose goal is to score points by
hitting the ball into the opponent's basket, a fixed target on the court. The sport is
characterized by being dynamic and involves different physical abilities, such as
agility and motor coordination.
The sport is one of the most popular in the world, currently played by more than
300 million people in the more than 170 countries affiliated with the International
Basketball Federation (FIBA).
2.1The benefits of basketball
a) Improved physical fitness
Basketball is a sport that exercises various muscles and limbs of the human body,
such as the legs, arms and shoulders. In addition, the constant changes of
direction - suddenly - end up developing, in addition to muscle strengthening, a
significant improvement in motor coordination. Other physical skills, such as
strength, impulse and speed, are also improved during the practice of the sport.
b)- Improves mental hhealth
4
Physical activities are great allies in combating mental disorders, such as anxiety
and depression, basketball as a dynamic game that requires a high degree of
concentration, also develops reasoning and perception of the environment - a
fact that ends up contributing to other areas of the athlete's development.
C) - Collectivity
Basketball is a team sport. Therefore, no one can develop the game in isolation,
alone, no matter how talented the athlete is. The player depends on the
performance - and commitment - of his teammates to be successful.
This develops a very clear sense of collectivity, in addition to the feeling of
belonging that, according to ABRAPESP, generates numerous benefits related to
well-being. Another important factor stimulated by collectivity is respect for the
space and role of others, since, in a basketball team, each athlete is responsible
for carrying out specific tasks.
Basketball also enhances social interaction, makes relationships easier and
encourages community living - factors that seem to be lost in society over the
years.
3.Athletics
Athletics is a sporting discipline consisting of different types of events involving
running, jumping and throwing. It is considered the oldest sport in the Olympic
Games.
Athletics events include track, field, combined and street events. The categories
are defined according to different distances ranging from 100 meters to 10,000
meters (on the track) and up to 42 km on the street (marathon).
Athletics is one of the most democratic sports to access and compete in because
it does not require a lot of equipment. Its practice by children and adolescents is
important for the motor development process.
5
The appreciation of athletics as a spectacle with media coverage was intensified
from the 1960s onwards. The IAAF abandoned the principles of amateurism in the
practice and adopted new guidelines.
Until 1970, the Olympics were the largest and most important athletics
competition in the world. Today, the world championship and other important
events in the sport are held there. More than 200 countries participate in the
IAAF today.
3.1CONTRIBUTIONS OF ATHLETICS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MOTOR SKILLS
Athletics is an amazing sport, as it allows participants to develop their different
skills in a single sport.working with children is a good start for teaching this sport,
which involves motor skills that they use on a daily basis.” (MATTHIESEN, 2005,
p.16). However, teachers and students in our country have very little knowledge,
and there is a lack of greater research into the sport in a general context. Many
associate it only during the Olympic Games or through the world games that
begin every four years.
Although this is the most common, there are other ways to learn about this sport
that deserve to be reviewed. “In other words, beyond this competitive
perspective restricted to major world events, it is necessary to explore the
educational side of athletics.” (MATTHIESEN, 2005, p. 15)
Athletics classes can be in the form of proposing the game as a means of
promoting learning, thus becoming a source of pleasure and discovery, becoming
a pedagogical instrument that contributes to the student's development.

4. Boxing
Boxing is a combat sport that involves only the use of fists, performed with gloves
in a ring. The objective is to knock out the opponent or accumulate points during
the rounds. Originating thousands of years ago, it was reborn in England, through
amateur competitions that evolved into professionalism. The rules of boxing
include the exclusive use of fists, limits on impact areas and the obligation to wear
gloves.
Fights are decided by points, knockouts, falls, technical knockouts or withdrawals.
There are different types of boxing, such as Olympic and professional boxing, each
with its own specificities.
The punches include jabs, straights, crosses and hooks. Infractions such as strikes
to the arms and grappling are penalized or not scored. Boxers are classified by
weight.
4.1Importance or benefits of boxing
For those seeking performance for competitions, boxing also brings numerous
benefits. In addition to increasing endurance, strength and stamina, it improves
cardiovascular health, improving heart rate for any type of competition. Breathing
control is also worked on during boxing training, as well as body posture,
reasoning and reflexes.
Motor coordination is another fundamental aspect of boxing and can be
expanded to any type of competition. Landing a punch correctly can be
challenging for beginners because it requires the correct movement: posture of
the feet, torso and arms. By learning to do this in the best way, the practitioner
gets to know their own body better and learns to control the different muscle
groups, being able to adapt this aspect of motor coordination to other activities.
5.Gymnastics
7
Gymnastics is a sport that works several muscles at once, which is why it is
excellent for maintaining your body and health. For those who want to have more
energy to face the marathon of daily commitments, practicing gymnastics can be
an ally. Gymnastics also helps to improve your mood, physical conditioning, tone
and strengthen your muscles, bones and joints, and also helps you lose that
unwanted fat.
5.1How important is gymnastics for your life?
Gymnastics provides several benefits for your physical and mental health and can
be practiced by people of any age. There are several exercises within this sport
and each one of
them allows you to achieve different goals and results, but in general, gymnastics
aims to promote flexibility and elasticity of the body's muscles. This way, you can
improve your posture, motor
coordination and many other aspects of your health. More energy A lack of
energy directly impacts your productivity at work, in your studies and in other
areas of your life. Without energy, it is not possible to perform routine tasks with
excellence.
Gymnastics, as a type of physical activity that involves practicing various
movements, helps to improve cardiorespiratory capacity, consequently providing
more energy.
During and after exercising, the body releases hormones that are capable of
increasing energy levels and satisfaction, in addition to eliminating toxins, which is
great for the body.
6.Conclusion
8
I was able to conclude at the end of the research that Teachers emphasize that
practicing sports can indeed contribute to an active and healthy adult life,
reporting that during the practice of sports, students learn to share and respect
others. Teachers also emphasize that practicing sports can improve physical
condition and contribute to a better and healthier life, among other benefits that
sports bring. Although health promotion involves multiple factors, there is strong
evidence that children and adolescents who maintain an active life are more likely
to be active and healthier adults. (CRUZ, MOREIRA, 2016). Practicing sports brings
numerous benefits such as: weight control, depression, stress and anxiety, among
other benefits. At school, sports play a fundamental role, because it is where the
teacher works with the intuition
