NAME: RESURRECCION, RENCY S.

COURSE/MARK: ELECTRO 118

YEAR AND SECTION: MEJ1-A2 DATE OF SUBMISSION: January 20,2022

LEARNING ACTIVITY 3.2

COURSE: Electro 118

TOPIC: Batteries

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Differentiate the various type of batteries

INSTRUCTOR: ENGR. EDWIN S. VALERA

1. Discuss the Battery Construction

A twelve-volt battery is made up of six single cells connected in series, yielding a fully charged output
voltage of 12.6 volts. A battery cell is made up of two lead plates: a positive plate covered with lead
dioxide paste and a negative plate composed of sponge lead, with an insulating substance (separator) in
between.
2. Differentiate the various type of Battery
1. Lead Acid Battery - A negative electrode made of spongy or porous lead is used in a
lead acid battery. The lead is porous in order to facilitate lead formation and dissolution.
Lead oxide is used to make the positive electrode. Both electrodes are immersed in a
sulfuric acid and water electrolytic solution.

2. Nickel - Cadmium Batteries- The nickel–cadmium battery (Ni-Cd battery or

NiCad battery) is a type of rechargeable battery with electrodes made of nickel
oxide hydroxide and metallic cadmium.
3. Nickel-Metal Hydride Batteries- A nickel metal hydride (NiMH or Ni– MH)
battery is a type of rechargeable battery.
4. Lithium-Ion Batteries- A lithium-ion battery, also known as a Li-ion battery, is a
type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode
to the positive electrode via an electrolyte during discharge and back again during
charging.

3. Enumerate and discuss the Pre caution of Battery when working

Wear approved safety goggles or glasses, as well as a face shield. Protect your face, hands, and
body by wearing appropriate clothing. Ensure that the work area is well-ventilated. When boosting,
testing, or charging the battery, never lean over it.
SAFETY PRECAUTOINS

 Keep metal tools and jewelry away from batteries

 When handling batterie, make sure that metal objects do not fall across the terminals
 Inspect the battery for any detective cables corroded cable connectors, corroded/broken
battery terminals, cracked cases or covers.
 Always use the proper wrench size when tightening cable clamp nuts
 Do not use excessive force when tightening connections to the battery terminals
 Clean your hands and soap and water immediately after working with batteries
