FOOTBALL
INTRODUCTION
Football, also known as soccer, is a team sport played between two teams
of 11 players each. It is widely regarded as the world’s most popular sport,
with billions of fans and players worldwide. The sport is played on a
rectangular field with goals at each end, and the objective is to score more
goals than the opposing team within a given time.
Key Terms if Football:
1. The Field:
• The game is played on a rectangular field, typically 100 to 110
meters long and 64 to 75 meters wide. The field is marked with lines
for the penalty area, center circle, and goal area, and there are two
goals at each end.
2. The Ball:
• Football is played with a round ball, usually made of leather or a
synthetic material, and has a circumference of about 68 to 70 cm.
Players use their feet, head, chest, and body to control and pass the
ball, though goalkeepers are the only players who can use their
hands within the penalty area.
3. The Objective:
• The main goal is to score by getting the ball into the opposing team's
goal. A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line
between the goalposts and beneath the crossbar.
• The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins. If the
score is tied, some competitions may go into extra time or penalty
shootouts to determine the winner.
4. Duration of the Match:
• A standard football match consists of two halves of 45 minutes
each, with a 15-minute halftime interval. Extra time and penalties
may be used in knockout competitions if the match ends in a draw.
5. The Players and Positions:
• Forwards: Attackers who aim to score goals.
• Midfielders: Players who control the ball and distribute passes.
• Defenders: Players whose primary task is to prevent the opposing
team from scoring.
• Goalkeeper: The player who guards the goal and is the only one
allowed to handle the ball within the penalty area.

Rules:
The game is governed by a set of rules ,which are maintained by the
International Football Association Board (IFAB). Some key rules include:
• Offside: A player is offside if they are closer to the opponent's goal
line than both the ball and the second-last defender at the moment
the ball is passed to them.
• Fouls: Players are penalized for dangerous or unfair play, such as
kicking, tripping, or pushing an opponent.
• Free Kicks: Awarded after certain fouls. They can be either direct
(where a goal can be scored directly from the kick) or indirect (where
the ball must touch another player before a goal can be scored).
• Penalties: Awarded when a player commits a foul inside their own
penalty area.
