Guide Question:
1. What is promotion?
2. Why it is important to advertise products and
services?
3. Do you have any personal experiences where people
are promoting or campaigning for you to buy their
products?
4. What are the different Promotional strategies?
5. What are the three critical factors?
Promotional Strategies:
1. Advertising:
Done through TV commercials, Radio, newspaper, billboards, or word-
of-mouth.
2. Public Relation Campaigns
Done by holding open house events and involving the community in
order to promote the image of your product.
3. Personal Selling
Done by employing salespersons to promote and sell your products as
part of the business communication plans
4. Sales Promotion
Done through special offers with a plan to attract people to buy the
product.
Sales promotions can include coupons, free samples,
incentives, contest prizes, loyalty programs, and rebates. You might
also want to educate potential and current customers by holding
trainings and seminars, or reach them via trade shows.
Before crafting a promotion and communication strategy, the
communicator must profile the target audience very well. In business
this requires some research on who exactly is the market audience,
what they are looking for in a particular product offering, and what it
will take to convince them to purchase the product offering.
An effective promotion depends on three
critical factors:
1. the credibility of the communicators.
2. the message and the medium of the message.
3. The receptiveness of the audience to all that is being
communicated.
