Inflator 10 Yr ICA
Inflator 10 Yr ICA
Applicability:
All part 23 and 25 aircraft using the AAIR system using a TRW or Autoliv inflator.
Background:
The FAA recently approved a change in the inflator life limits from 7 to 10 years. Previously the inflators were
approved for a maximum life (service/storage) of 14 years with a 7 year refurbishment required by AmSafe
Aviation. The approved change allows a maximum combined service/storage life of 10 years (from date of
manufacture) with no required refurbishment. The Instructions for Continued Airworthiness are currently being
revised to reflect this change.
Authorized personnel using the AAIR system should update their records/maintenance program to reflect the above
noted changes. Prior to the approved change, each inflator had an AmSafe Aviation “Inflator Sub-Assembly” label
which included the AmSafe part number, lot number, and expiration date. The 10 year life limit of an inflator with an
expiration date, as shown in Figure 1, can be determined by adding three (3) years to the expiration date. If the
inflator has an AmSafe label stating the “date of mfg” (see Figure 2), the service life of the inflator is 10 years after
the “date of mfg”.
