Blazblue difficulty retrospective
[Pick the character who looks the coolest to you. Tier lists will not matter until
the Highest level of play, which is the 0.01%]
Ragna

Ragna is a beginner friendly character that is well balanced and can be considered
an all rounder character. If you are going to start the game, he is a great
gateway. Drive power is to steal health from the enemy
Jin

Jin is another beginner friendly character. He isn’t that hard to play but done of
his combos require delay so it could take getting used to. His normals are kinda
cracked, though. Safe pick if you’re just picking a game or like how he looks.
Drive power is ice
Noel

A kinda hard character? In terms of combos she’s got some complicated stuff (mainly
microdashing) but other than that, she’s pretty simple. Considered a ‘bad
character’ but who cares, gun goes pew pew. Drive power is
「Gun mode」
Iron Tager

A grappler and because he is grappler, he is bad. However, once he gets in, good
luck getting him off because he hits you with the power of fucking magnetism. One
of the coolest grapplers to ever exist, beginner friendly. Drive power is magnets
Hakumen

A medium difficulty character with insane offense and good defense. He can be kind
of hard in terms of learning the combos, but they’re not too bad and the rest of
his kit is really solid over all. Will look very flashy doing anything. Drive power
is counters
Susano’o

A beginner friendly character that is very easy to combo with. He has good normals
like j.C and can easily overpower an opponent who doesn’t know the matchup. Very
strong character whose drive is unlocking seals that unlock the rest of his special
moves
Terumi

Hehe funny man. He is chaos incarnate, he is meter hungry and he is a mid tier. It
doesn’t not matter, he’s the funny man. His drive power is just to build a shit ton
of meter and dump it into your supers. Beginner friendly, and has a higher skill
ceiling than you think.
Mai

Single easiest character in the game. Has some complex stuff but it’s not too bad.
Was made for beginners honestly, but can be very fun if you like how the character
looks or plays. Drive ability is to throw a spear that can redirect by pressing
drive again
Hibiki

Simple, easy to understand character. He may look boring by he very much relies on
your fundamentals to play well. Basically, the better you are the better you’ll
okay Hibiki. He’s good to pick up as a beginner But doesn’t offer as much as some
characters at a glance. Drive ability is shadow clone jutsu
Naoto

Arthritis man. Hard character to play and even harder to master, would not
recommend playing as a new player. The Ragna counter part whose drive is using
blood and slashing the opponent. The blood is dash cancellable which makes his
character go from 15 to 176 immediately.
Kagura

A strong, massive damage dealing monster. Has a good DP and generally holds up well
against a lot of the cast. His drive is a sword stance I believe, and it’s what
leads to some to his pressure and a lot of damage. Also has a projectile for some
fucking reason (its good for set ups)
Hazama

A tricky snake man. Terumi but sophisticated and uses Ouroborus as his drive. Can
fly around the screen like a fish, but a lot of his combos require microdashing
which can be really tricky to do early on, or even a good bit in. Very fun though,
even if I don’t personally play him
Bang Shishigami

Speaking of personally play, meet my main. He is very fun in terms of mobility
since most of his combos, movement and general gameplay rely on his air movements
or ‘IAD’s (Instant Air Dash, or an up forwards > forwards input).
He also requires a lot of micro dashes and he’s considered one of the harder
characters in the game. Half of that is because he’s so info’s orange it hurts.
But I love the bugger regardless, so it’s fine. Play him at the begging at your own
risk, he takes a while to use properly or even half decently.
Oh yeah, his overdrive should not be used by beginners, its strong but also kinda
complex and hell to control. Use at your own risk if you plan on picking him up.
Arakune
Stay away from this fucker. His drive is literally just fucking bugs.
Valkenhayn

A very technical character that requires a lot of hours to make use of. Luckily
their game plan is simple enough to use and he’s very linear in therms of learning.
Drive ability is to turn into a Wolf, certifying him as a furry
Platinum the trinity

Blazblue lore is bullshit
A tiny child which has the similar gimmick to Faust, in which they throw random
items and plays for the best. Drive ability is throwing items and the entire kit is
built around getting an item and spamming shit. Solid enough character
Taokaka

Actually pretty hard to play. Requires precise timings and weird inputs you’re
probably not used to. Not exactly a string character but is a fun one, and they’re
rarer to find online than reasonable opinions. Drive ability is to just glide in a
Certain direction depending on the input. Le funny cat
Amane

Actually a guy. His ability is drills from his scarf or some shit, he can build up
a gauge that makes his drill stringer and slowly drains when his drill is active.
Mid range character and he enjoys art. One of the characters to ever exist, he’s
actually pretty fun.
Bullet

Somehow the least relevant character in Blazblue. She’s also a grappler like Tager
but this time, she’s a ‘Strike grappler’. This means she’s just a good character
with a command grab thrown in. In fact I don’t even know if she has a command grab.
Drive ability is homing depending on the direction you use
Azrael

Monke. Unga bubga DP power and a dash that’s just a teleport. Drive ability is
something? I’m not really sure but it lets him get a shit ton of damage. Okay if
you like autopiloting a lot.
Nu 13

Not to be confused as Mu 12 or Lambda 11, this one is just a zoner that has some
good tools, but generally gets outclassed by some characters (e.g Bang’s 3C
basically wins him this matchup).
The drive sets up diamonds that shoot lasers on command and can hole onto you or
the opponent.
Mu 12

Mu is completely different to the other droids, by having good midscreen pokes and
the diamonds, while being similar, are mostly used to have an offense that’s mostly
timing based? Kinda weird but it can work.
Lambda 11

Lambda is a rushdown-Zoner hybrid. Has some tight timings so maybe not the best
option to start off, but 100% manageable. The movement on this character is pretty
good, and the drive pulls out some swords and shanks you with them (hehe British)
Es

A very strong and beginner friendly character that does a lot of things in this
game. Rushdown oriented and generally, can control a lot of the match due to
massive normals that you just can’t hurt (she had big sword).
Also can anti air basically everyone, 6B stops you from being in the air a lot of
the time.
The drive ability is to do an attack and then place a circle that will combust in a
few seconds, which can lead to extended pressure or combos. Goes away if you get
hit.
My brother plays this character so I can say even literal children can play this
character.
Doesn’t make it easy though
Celiaca

Uses a puppet but surprisingly isn’t a puppet character like Zato. Its main
mechanic that sets itself from the rest is the ability to heal health. The drive
ability is to use the puppet and attack with it, having a Couple of follow ups
Makoto

The squirrel that everyone gets horny over. Not exactly a hard character but it’s
just… kinda weird. Has a DP and one of the supers are so bad they’re funny.
The drive lets you do a move depending on the input you do, you can hold it to
charge it and it has 3 levels, all of which lead to different types of attacks.
It’s not as complicated as I’m making it sound
Izayoi

A very strong character that isn’t all too bad to play. Had some whacky shenanigans
and can switch stances that change their move set to be slightly different. Also
they have I-no dash in one of their stances, so be wary of that.
Did I mention they can teleport? They have a projectile and in one do their
stances, shoot three at one time. In which they can teleport afterwords for a free
opening.
Shits busted.
Tsubaki

I actually have no idea what this character does. It can do stuff though, simple
enough to understand and probably won’t shatter your fingers…
Nine the phantom

A character who is very cool in concept, very brain dead when executed and very
very hard to play at high levels.
But you and I aren’t at those levels, so you can enjoy them anyways.
She is very strong, using her drives to cast spells based on the last attack you’ve
done, with A, B, and C each having a different element. Also the dashes are
teleports you can do yo to twice (even in the air what the fuck)
Litchi

This character is incredibly hard, so not try it as a beginner you will shatter
your hand probably.
Also if your parents catch you they’ll be concerned because too fucking horny
Drive ability throws or retrieve a stick.
Izanami

Another incredibly hard character with moves that are basically cheating. Like rib
cage, which makes you immune to all attacks except grab until the barrier gauge
runs out. Even supers.
Arguably best character in the game, not saying this to tell you to play her, just
showing the potential.
Rachel Alucard

DO NOT TOUCH RHIS CHRACTER AS A BEGINNER IT REQUIRES NEGTAIVE EDGE WHICH IS A
CONCEPT THAT WILL BOTH YOU AND YOUR HANDS BEFUDDLED.
Drive ability controls the wind
Carl Clover

AGAIN, NEGATIVE EDGE IS ANNOYINGLY HARD TO DO, IT FEELS COOL BUT THTAS ONLY IF YOU
CAN FEEL YOUR HANDS. MOSTLY TIMING THOUGH
The drive button uses Nirvana, the doll. Kinda ducked up, isn’t it?
Relius Clover

The bastard father of Carl who ironically isn’t as hard to play, and can be down if
you know the shortcuts.
He controls a puppet as well, hi literal wife if I recall, and just kinda stabs you
with it.
Has some fun setups, but they take time and practice to utilise.
Kokonoe

Mad scientist with privileged normals and some whacky magnetism shenanigans. Very
strong but can be hard to pick up, due to having some hard to do combos and having
some precise inputs.
Again, can’t actually stop you.
Jubei
Cat DLC that’s too expensive, wait till it reaches a discount. Pretty fun but you
do not need him to enjoy the game to the fullest.
