Subject- Proposal for event “IT- Hackathon”

With due respect we want to propose an event named “IT Hackathon 2017”. Programming is the
21st century’s new literacy. It is not limited to the confines of engineering, but extends to how we
solve problems in the future. It embodies creativity and critical thinking. We believe that all students
should equip themselves with development skills to facilitate with their future education and career
development. lT students will come together to a 6 hours hackathon event, where they will make
workable applications .

What is a Hackathon:

Hacking is an unorthodox way to solve problems, however, it is most often perceived negatively in the
public. A hackathon is an event that gathers programmers with different skill sets to “hack”, or work
collaboratively, on a software project.

What are our visions:

1. Promote creativity and team working - IT Hackathon provides a platform for students to unleash
their creativity and collaboration skills, two vital skills for future learning and career development,
through coming up with ideas and building the product collaboratively.

2. Educate students developmental skills- Programming is the new literacy. Every industry, from
finance to transportation, requires people who know how to program. By equipping students with
development skills, more opportunities will open up for them in the future.

3. Promote “Developing Culture” - Developing culture encourages people to think out of the box.
Students challenge themselves to create something new and to take ownership of what they create.
These are important but often neglected experiences.

Rules and Regulation of Hackathon:

● IT Hackathon will be a 6 hours hackathon.

● Students will finish building their projects and submit them to the online portals. A panel of judges
will decide on basis of the submissions.
● Prizes will be awarded based on the project’s creativity, execution and impact made to the target
users or the community.
● We will accept applications from a team of 2 students.
● Students are requested to bring their own laptops and equipments required at the event.
● Registration fee would be 100Rs. for a team.
● Internet facility would be provided at the place.
● Participants will from 2nd and 3rd year.
● Participants can choose any platform for development.

Judgement Criteria:

● 40 percent marking will be on proper idea representation.

● 30 percent marking will be for UI/UX design.
● 30 percent marking will on completion of the project.

Requirements:

● Min 2 Labs(depends on no. of registration)

● Internet Connectivity
● Technical Certificate

Outcomes:
● To represent IT Department in various Hackathon.

Future Development:

After our program, we will organise another hackathon for the whole JECRC College.We hope that
JECRC can incorporate hackathons into their Other Learning Experience profile and promote
programming to their students.

IT Hackathon 2017 Promotion Message/Email

IT department is organising the IT Hackathon 2017. It will be a 6 hours hackathon in which a

theme will be provided on the spot . You can choose any platform and internet facility for the
development according to the theme given.

Based on this hackathon, IT will recognise student's strength and will promote such students to
bigger platform. So bring out your best and get the chance to participate in the further
hackathons on a larger scale .

Attendance , refreshments and attractive prizes will be given .

Technical Certificate will also be given to the participants.

• Food Application - Application which include menu of the restaurant and user can select from
the menu and the selected menu will be displayed finally along with its
total price

• Fitness Application - Application include the calculation of BMI(body mass index) or Weight
loss for a person or which include a daily routine a person must acquire to stay healthy

• E-Commerce - Application include commercial transactions conducted electronically on the

Internet.

• Library Management - Application include management of the library books and names of
students along with the no. of books issued

SUMMARY OF IT HACKATHON 2017

IT Hackathon 2017

Hacking is an unorthodox way to solve problems. IT hackathon 2017 was an event that gathers
programmers with different skill sets to “hack”, or work collaboratively, on a software project i.e.
the given topic on 6th September 2017 from 9am to 3pm.

Theme of the IT Hackathon was “Social Cause”. According to the theme there were 8 topics as
follows-
1. Child Labour
2. Teenage Crime
3. Blood Donation
4. Illiteracy
5. Women Empowerment
6. Alcoholism
7. Dowery System
8. Sanitation and Cleanliness

Students participated in the team of 2 members Total 47 teams participated in the event. Both
the members worked collaboratively and many creative outputs were given. The judgement
round started at 2pm. Every team showed their talent and the solution to the problem in a
creative way.

After the judgement round , 3 teams were selected for the final presentation where they have to
present it in front of every participant. From these teams the

Winner- Ujjwal Gupta and Vatsal

Runners up 1st- Avish Jain and Anant Upadhyay
Runners up 2nd- Siddharth Jain and Siddharth Singh Tomar
were announced.

Best Idea Award was given to Deepen Bhavsar and Nayaran Devprua.
Mementos were given as a token of remembrance to the judges- Mr. Abhishek Chandra and Mr.
Naveen Kedia.

Event was ended with the certificate distribution ceremony to every participant, student
coordinators and the faculty coordinator- Ms. Preeti Sharma.
