Unicorn

Pattern
Materials

Using fingering yarn with 2.5mm hook will produce a unicorn of about 9.5cm/ 3.6in
tall and 5cm/ 1.9in wide. It will be bigger if you use a thicker yarn and smaller if
you use a thinner yarn.

The materials listed below are according to fingering yarn


White yarn
Pink yarn
Purple yarn
Pale green yarn
Baby blue yarn yarn
Pastel yellow yarn
Black embroidery thread
Stuffing
Crochet Hook 2.5mm (or a hook size suitable for your yarn)
Yarn needle

Abbreviations

sc - single crochet
sc inc - single crochet increase
sc dec - single crochet decrease
ss - slip stitch
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
ch - chain stitch
Rnd - Round

How to Read the Pattern

If you are new to amigurumi or are used to reading patterns in full sentences, you
can see the following example on how to interpret the pattern.

Example
Rnd 5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 times (30)

Rnd 5 - This is the 5th round.


(3 sc, sc inc) - sc in each stitch for the next 3 stitches. sc increase in the next
stitch.
x 6 times - do the stitches in between the () for 6 times.
(30) - By the end of the round, you should have 30 stitches.

The head is slight oval in shape. Make sure the longer side is horizontal and locate
the top of the head where the eyes should be.

Repeat Row 3 for baby blue yarn, pale green yarn and pastel yellow yarn respec-
tively.
Attach pink yarn at the start of row 6 (pastel yellow row),

Fasten off, leaving a very long length of yarn for sewing.

The hair will be sewn together lengthwise, to form a long tube shape. With the long
length of pink yarn, sew the other end together to form the start of the tube.

Observe the end of the hair where you just sewn. Notice that there are horizontal
stitches near the end.

Insert your needle through the nearest horizontal stitch (pink yarn) from front to
back. Pull the yarn through. Repeat for the next stitch (yellow yarn). Pull the yarn
tight until the pink yarn almost cannot be seen.

Sew the hair along the length, stuffing lightly as you go. Close the other end of the
tail using the same method. Do not cut off the yarn as it will be used for sewing
onto the head later.

Repeat the steps for purple yarn using baby blue


yarn, pale green yarn and pastel yellow yarn.
Thread your needle with the extra long piece of pink yarn left. Then, take purple
tail part and insert the needle across one end. Pull the needle and yarn all the way
until the 2 tail parts are beside each other. Do the same for the other parts in this
order: baby blue, purple and yellow.

Insert the needle through the pink tail part and pull it through until a ring is
formed. Pull it tight to close the hole in the middle. Do not cut off the yarn as it will
be used for sewing onto the body later.
