midwives must uphold. It has five domains:

VALUES
THE NMC CODE AND ETHICS
•The Code contains the professional standards that registere nurses and
midwives must uphold in patient care, leadership, education or research.
• The standards that public expect from healthcare professionals.
•Nurses and Midwives can use it to promote safe and effective practice in
their place of work.
•Employer organizations should support their staff in upholding the standards
in their professional Code, the quality and safety expected by users and
regulators.
•Educators can use the Code to help students understand what it means to be a
registered professional.

PRIORITIZE PEOPLE
● Treat people as individual and uphold their dignity
● Listen to people and respond to preference and concerns
● Make sure that people's physical, social and psychological needs are
assessed and responded(Holistic care)
● Respect people's right to privacy and confidentiality.

tell to Dr » so encourage the pt the importance of sharing the
information and ask the pt to tell to Dr
● Act as an advocate for vulnerable patients.
● Inform the patient about the procedure and obtain their consent.
PRACTICE EFFECTIVELY
● Practice with the best evidence available and best practice.
● Communicate clearly-Need to handle verbal and non verbal
communication effectively.
● Keep clear and accurate records relevant to your practice
● Information given must be evidence based.
● Work cooperatively
● Maintain knowledge and skill for safe and effective practice. Main

● Share your skills, knowledge and experience for the people receiving
care.
PRESERVE SAFETY
● Recognize and work within the limits of your competence.
● .Be open and candid with all service users about all aspects of care and treatment,
including when any mistakes or harm have taken place.
● Always offer help if an emergency arises in your practice setting or anywhere else.
● Act without delay if you believe that there is a risk to patient safety or public
protection.
● .Raise concerns immediately if you believe a person is vulnerableor at risk and
needs extra support and protection.
● Advise on, prescribe, supply, dispense or administer medicines within the limits of
your training and competence, the law, our guidance and other relevant policies,
guidance and regulations.
● Be aware of, and reduce as far as possible, any potential for harm associated with
your practice.
Pt and public safety is to be protected and ensure safety for ourselves.
● Medication error-Inform Physician if medication error happens.

❖ A newly qualified NHS nurse should obtain permission from the line manager to do all
procedures.
PROMOTE PROFESSIONALISM AND TRUST
● Do not share your personal beliefs with patient and do not
insist them to follow it.
● Do not accept any gifts from patients, instead make them
understand that you are not supposed to receive gifts from
patients
● Confidentiality of documents
● It is the duty of the nurse to keep the documents
confidentially.
● Documents should be kept outside the patient’s room
PROMOTE PROFESSIONALISM AND TRUST
● Uphold the reputation of your profession at all times.
● Uphold your position as a registered nurse or midwife.
● Fulfil all registration requirements.
● Cooperate with all investigations and audits.
● Respond to any complaints made against you professionally.
- An RN must attend 35 units of continuing education in 3
years
(450 hours of practice)
Three circumstances where a nurse can disclose matters to
multi-disciplinary team
● If it is harmful for patients.
● If it is harmful for the public.
● If it is harmful for patient and public treatment.
● If police comes with warrant ,matter can be disclosed.
