architecture that develops their environment and community, and boosting up their social
responsibility, involvement of sustainable designing and building for the future.

I. Course Description: This course covers a vast array of energy-related issues as they apply
to site planning and architectural design. Topics include thermal design comfort, site climate
analysis, building thermal response, and solar system design; air treatment, distribution
systems, and related energy systems; water resources supplies and treatment, distribution
and disposal systems; together with electrical, vertical transportation, communication,
security, and fire protections systems.

II. Course Learning Outcomes: (A summary of intended learning outcomes of the course
in each domain of learning). On the successful completion of this course, students will be

VII. Learning Resources

● A. References Sun, Wind & Light architectural design strategies,

Mark Dekay & G. Z. Brown., 3rd edition, Wiley, 2013.
● The Green Studio Handbook: Environmental Strategies for Schematic
Design, Alison Kwok & Walter Grondzik, 3rd edition, Architectural Press,
2011
● Heating, cooling, lighting: sustainable design methods for architects,
Norbert Lechner, Wiley 2014

B. Facilities Required
The course requires
● Classroom
● enough plugs in the lecture room for students to carry out their class tasks

C. EDU-HUB Platform

● Moodle: grades will be published on Moodle. every week there will be studying
resources to view. Every student must check the course on Moodle weekly.
● Google drive: students are required to create a folder for this course and share it
with the instructor. All students need to upload their progress during class time
to this folder twice weekly at the end of each class (this folder will be graded).

VIII. Classroom Policies

A. Academic Integrity Policy

“Plagiarism can be defined as unintentionally or deliberately using another person’s writing
or ideas as though they are one’s own. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, copying
another individual’s work and taking credit for it, paraphrasing information from a source
without proper documentation, and mixing one’s own words with those of another author
without attribution. In addition, buying a paper or project, or downloading a paper from the
Internet, and submitting them as your own is also plagiarism. The penalty for academic

College/ Department Course Syllabus Template
Semester 2, 2024– 2025

dishonesty will bring course expulsion and failure, or even suspension” (Academic Integrity
and Syllabus Acknowledgement Form).

All students are expected to submit their ‘own’ work and not the work of others.

B. Attendance Policy

The University attendance policy will be strictly followed. In this course, absence of 25% of
Contact hours results in a Denied Notice (DN).
(Refer to the student regulation handbook for further details.)
Please Note: IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO KEEP
SATISFYING their level of attendance. Otherwise, a “DN” grade will be granted automatically
during any time in the semester without any notice from the e-register system. No make-up
exams will be allowed except for university accepted documents.
(Refer to the student regulation handbook for further details.) In any case, all special cases
should be referred to student’s affair and the Department Chairperson, who will make the final
decision together with the instructor. It is the sole responsibility of a student to keep satisfying
level of attendance. Otherwise, "DN" grade will be granted automatically during any time in the
semester, without any notice.

1. No make-up exams will be allowed except for university accepted documents. (Refer to
the student regulation handbook for further details.)
2. No make-up exams will be allowed except for university accepted documents. (Refer to
the student regulation handbook for further details.) students are expected to arrive on time and
will not be excused at any time unless instructed by the instructor. The attendance is taken within
15 minutes from the beginning of the lesson.
3. Arriving late or leaving early is both unprofessional and unacceptable, and in such cases,
students will be counted absent. Attending classes on time should be viewed no differently than
arriving to work on time. Therefore, students will not be allowed to enter class once the classroom
door is closed. It is disrespectful to both faculty and students and students and latecomers will not
be allowed to enter the class until there is a break. For every hour, or fraction of an hour, the
students wait to enter the class will be counted as an absence.
4. Students are responsible for obtaining information missed in conjunction with an absence
and the faculty will not recap information to student on a one-to-one basis. Missing class due
personal and/or family related illness must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation.
This is to insure an atmosphere of fairness with regards to late work and/or project extension.
C. Homework Submission Policy

Page 2
Prince Sultan University TLC 2024 Form 12 /Institutional
College/ Department Course Syllabus Template
Semester 2, 2024– 2025

The issue and submission date for the assignment shall be as stated in the assignment brief. It
shall; however, be the responsibility of the student to ensure that:

• All work is submitted on time unless a written request in advance of the due date is made
and agreed with the module tutor.
• Where no request for extension is made or approved before the due date, late submissions
shall be subject to a penalty 10% of grade for each day. Submission will not be accepted
after 1 week from announced due date.
• Copying other student’s work is strictly prohibited, any copied work will be marked as
ZERO for both students.
• Missing any class assignments will be marked as ZERO. [NO MAKEUP
ASSIGNMENTS]

IX. My Assumptions
• It is student responsibility to check Moodle/mail/drive for any announcements before the
class, and for following up the update course timeline and syllabus.
• No change of grade requests will be accepted.
• No individual submissions are accepted for any group assignments and vice versa.
• It is the responsibility of the students to check updates to the Syllabus posted on
Moodle/Drive.
• Course syllabus might be having slight changes upon any updated announcements at the
department level. Students will be informed in all possible ways.
• Some lectures will be paired with audio-visual references. All references uploaded on
Course folder are mandatory to watch and study for exams
• Some supplementary readings will be available on drive on some topics • No submission
will be accepted in personal or professional email.
• The assignment or project will not be accepted by the instructor if the students fail to have
a prior discussion during the classes assigned to work on them.
