1-3 Manufacturer I,O,Q A "9" in the third position is a shared WMI for LPM.
I,O,Q If gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) <=10,000 lbs:
Vehicle Attributes:
4-8 I,O,Q 4,5,6 may be alpha or numberic.
Body, Style, GVWR
I,O,Q 7 must be alpha.
9 Check Digit See notes Must be 0-9 or X.
10 Model Year I,O,Q,0,U,Z See Year Table Below.
11 Plant of Manufacture I,O,Q Manufacturer code that corresonds to a plant of manufacture.
12-17 Serial Number I,O,Q* * If GVWR<=10,000 lbs: 13-17 are numeric. Else 14-17 is numeric.
Low Production Manufacturer (LPM) - Less than 1,000 vehicles
12-17 WMI Suffix I,O,Q, Alpha 12-17 must be numeric. 12-14 Identifies the LPM along with the WMI

The WMI refers to the first three characters of the VIN. A "9" in the Typo Valid Maker Exchanges
