The RUSD Honors Musical program provides extensive
training to prepare students to perform in a fully produced,
professional-level musical at the Riverside Fox Performing
Arts Center. With world-class mentorship and job
shadowing, student actors, dancers, singers, musicians,
and theater techs engage in an extraordinary learning
environment to prepare for a future in the arts.
The RUSD Honors Musical Program is a proud recipient of
the California School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award
2022 and the Riverside Arts Council’s Mayor’s Ball for the
Arts Award 2024.

Joaquin Barton as Piragua Guy
Joaquin is a senior at Ramona High School. His past roles for the Honors.
Musical include Amos Hart in Chicago and Maurice in Beauty and the
Beast. He is so grateful to be able to perform and to have the privilege
of working with this program. He hopes to continue pursuing theater
and performing in college and beyond.
Leilani Brandon as Ensemble
Leilani Brandon, a junior at J.W. North High School, is a council member
of Heritage. She was in the North production of Alice in Wonderland as
Caterpillar and Ace of Hearts. She plans to use her experience in the
Honors Musical to further her skills in performing arts and go toa
performing arts college.
Brooke Briones as Ensemble
Brooke, a sophomore at Martin Luther King High School, is a member of
Show Choir and advanced theater class. Some recent credits include
Mal in Descendants and Drowsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone
Jr. The Honors Musical program has helped her grow her dance skills
and learn how to work in a professional setting. She plans to use this
experience to apply to New York University and The Juilliard School.
Camila Castillo as Ensemble
Camila, a senior at J.W. North High School, is the president of Harlequins
Theater Club and a member of Chamber Singers. Being a part of the
Honors Musical has further developed her skills in performing and she
hopes to apply this experience in future productions. After high school
she plans to study and pursue a career in screenwriting.
Trent Charles III as Jose
Trent is a senior at 3.W. North High School, He is the bass section leader
of the Chamber Singers, vice president of the theater program
“Harlequins”, and a choreographer for Show Choir. He plans to use his
Honors Musical experience to become a musical theater major in the
fall and eventually become a film and Broadway actor.
Violet Dawson as Ensemble
Violet, a senior at Poly High School, is very excited to be a part of this
production. This is her second year in the Honors Musical, but her first
time acting in the show and stepping into an actor's perspective. Violet
plans to continue in musical theater at Riverside City College and use
her experience from this show to help her as she goes on with theater
throughout the year,CAST
Isaac De Leon as Sonny
Isaac, a junior at Arlington High School, is a musician in Marching Band
and Concert Band, a member of the Lion’s Chorus, and also a part of the
Lion's Den Theater. As part of the Honors Musical, he has become a
more confident performer and has learned a lot about how to perform
and to express himself on stage. He is happy to have realized his dream
of becoming part of the Honors Musical.
Maya Diallo as Yolanda
Maya is a sophomore at Ramona High School and has been involved in
the performing arts since she was two years old. She is currently on the
dance team at her school. Some of her favorite roles include Mimi in
Rent and Shonelle in Schoo! of Rock. She dreams of getting her BFA in
musical theater and becoming a Broadway dancer.
Haley Garcia as Daniela
Haley is a senior at J.W. North High School. She is the flute section
leader and secretary of the band council while also being member
manager of the Harlequins Theater Club. As part of the Honors Musical,
she has become more confident as a performer and feels more capable
of challenging herself in both singing and dancing, Haley will carry this
confidence with her as she challenges herself to become an OB/GYN.
Rowan Gilstrap as Graffiti Pete
Rowan, a junior at Martin Luther King High School, is active in Show
Choir and the theater program. He appeared in past Honors Musicals as
a featured dancer in Chicago: Teen Edition and Gaston in Beauty and
the Beast. The Honors Musical helped him develop his skills in character
development and in playing off of other actors on stage. He plans to use
these skills to pursue a career in acting
Mason Gonzales as Ensemble
Mason, a freshman at J.W. North High School, serves as the class of 2028
president of North's United Student League and is a member of the
varsity water polo team. Previous roles include Bert in Mary Poppins Jr.
with the Riverside Children’s Theatre and Fate 3 in Hadestown: Teen
Edition with the Riverside Community Players. His experience in the
Honors Musical has helped him further prepare for a career in the arts.
Jacklyn Greenawalt as Ensemble
Jacklyn, a senior at Martin Luther King High School, is a State Thespian
Officer with California's International Thespian Society. A nationally
ranked thespian and student activist, she serves on the MultiCultural
Council and Student Equity Committee. Her role in the Honors Musical
has boosted her confidence, dance skills, and craft. She plans to study
musical theater this fall and aspires to be a screen actor.CAST
Ellie Johnson as Ensemble
Ellie Johnson is a senior at Martin Luther King High School and is a
member of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Singers, and Thespians.
She has been involved in theater since kindergarten, and in her time
spent in the Honors Musical she has become a more confident
performer and grown her performance skills. She plans on continuing
her theater journey at Riverside Community College in the fall
Jayden Jones as Benny
Jayden Jones is a senior who attends Martin Luther King High School.
He is involved in various extracurriculars at school including Show Choir,
Chamber Singers, and Vocal Jazz. Jayden performed in the Honors
Musical Beauty and the Beast last year. In his second time in the
program, Jayden has continued to develop his theater skills and is
excited to continue even after graduation.
Jasper Jundanian as Ensemble
Jasper Jundanian is a senior at Martin Luther King High School and is a
member of Chamber Singers and Thespians. This experience taught
him a lot about character development and teamwork in theater. He
has been part of theater for a while, but has never quite had an
experience like this and is so grateful to be a part of it. Jasper is
especially happy to have made so many new friends.
Hannah Laag as Carla
Hannah, a senior at Poly High School, is a proud performer in Show
Choir. She is looking forward to performing in Poly's upcoming Musical
Revue, as well as her Show Choir's competition in May. This is her third
time performing in the Honors Musical, and it has aided her growth in
multiple artistic areas and helped her find her community within the
district. Hannah plans to major in musical theater in college
Vivian Lucas as Ensemble
Vivian isa junior at Poly High School. They are in Chamber Choir,
ComedySportz, and are a recruiter for the Jesters Theater Club. Vivian
has enjoyed singing all their life and is ecstatic to be able to perform in
the Honors Musical. This program has helped them to become a better
dancer, manage time, and to learn to be more independent. The Honors
Musical also helped thern develop a sense of community.
Moises Magafia as Ensemble
Moises, a junior at Ramona High School, is grateful for the opportunity
to perform in the Honors Musical. When he started at Ramona he had
never participated in theater before but now he has developed a
passion for it. Though he doesn't plan to major in theater, he takes with
him the lessons of teamwork, passion, and being able to work in a
group without worrying about popularity.wil athe

Kayla McCarty as Vanessa
Kayla, a senior at Ramona High School, is thrilled to be in her third
production of the Honors Musical. She is grateful for the life-changing
experience this program has given her throughout her high school
years. She is currently the 2025 National YoungArts Winner of
Distinction in Musical Theatre, and plans to continue her journey in the
performing arts by attending college to earn a BFA in musical theater.
Alexis Medina as Camila Rosario
Alexis is a sophomore at Arlington High School where she is a bass
section leader and percussionist, an officer in the theater program, and
a photographer in the media program. As part of the Honors Musical
program she has been encouraged to strive for greatness and exhibit
her passion for live performance. She hopes to demonstrate this same
confidence in her upcoming percussion and theater performances,
Hope Meshkoff as Ensemble
Hope, a senior at Martin Luther King High School, is a member of Show
Choir, ComedySportz, Thespians, as well as theater, costume and make-
up classes at King, She is honored to be a part of the Honors Musical for
the second time and will treasure her memories for years to come. She
has learned valuable creative skills that she will take with her into
college where she plans to continue her musical theater journey.
Bereket Moncrief as Ensemble
Bereket is a junior at J.W. North High School. He is involved in the Blue
Star Regiment's Color Guard and is an active member of Harlequins,
often running sound tech for North's shows. As a part of the Honors
Musical, he has been able to discover a love for music, theater, and
dance. He hopes to use this amazing opportunity to be a more
confident performer and to participate in future productions
America Monroe as Ensemble
America is a junior at Martin Luther king High School. She is one of the
PR-Managers in the Thespians Club, a member of Show Choir, and has
been involved in many school theater productions. Other credits
include roles with Riverside City College and Rockstars of Tomorrow
America is grateful to have been part of this year's Honors Musical
because she has met so many new people and learned some new skills.
Sophia Montez as Ensemble
Sophia, a sophomore at Poly High School, is a member of Dance
Collective, Principle Centered Leadership, and is a Justice for M.E.ChA
(Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan). She is grateful for the
opportunity to be part of the Honors Musical as she learned how to
cooperate with her peers and create her own dance numbers. She plans
to dance on her university dance team.CAST
Jasmine Ortiz as Abuela Claudia
Jasmine is a junior at Arlington High School and serves as the historian
for the Lions’ Den Players and the public relations chair for Arlington's
Chamber Choir. Being a part of the Honors Musical once more has
allowed her to become more confident in how she presents herself on
stage, while also teaching her to take risks. She plans to use this
experience to become a high school theater teacher.
Sophia Pérez as Ensemble
Sophia is a freshman at Poly High School. She is a member of the Art
Club and has performed with the Riverside Children’s Theatre. As a part
of the Honors Musical, she has developed a deeper passion for theater
and music and has learned many new skills from the program. She
looks forward to using these skills and this experience to further her
passion for the arts and always keep an aspect of theater in her life.
Andy Robinson as Ensemble
Andy is a senior at Arlington High School. Their dream is to run a theater
company and name it “Stardust Company of the Performing Arts". The
Honors Musical experience has taught them that there is no room for
drama in drama. They are grateful to have met people who will really be
there for therm; the bonds they have made as part of this program are
indescribable and will last a lifetime.
Andres Rodriguez as Kevin Rosario
Andres is a senior at J.W. North High School, where he is active in
musicals and plays, as both an actor and a lead technician. During his
time in the Honors Musical, he has learned about time management
and learned to have more confidence in himself, which he will
undoubtedly take advantage of wherever life takes him. He hopes to
enter the fields of animal science and statistics after he graduates.
Genesis Romero as Ensemble
Genesis, a senior at Ramona High School, is the secretary of the Ramona
Music Program and VAPA Leadership. Her love of theater has grown
this year through her schools’ productions of Anything Goes and Rent.
She has learned a lot very quickly as part of the Honors Musical; She is
now more focused and productive, and is excited for what the future
has to offer. She plans to continue in theater after high school.
Ryan Rosas as Usnavi
Ryan is a senior at Ramona High School and is so honored to play the
role of Usnavi in his last Honors Musical! He is president of the choir and
dance programs at Ramona as well as the senior class. Ryan dances at
Define Dance Space in Riverside. Ryan will be attending college in the
fall in pursuit of a BFA in dance.b2 Dea 3 Po >

Amayzee Ruiz as Nina
Amayzee, a sophomore at J.W. North High School is a part of Chamber
Singers, Show Choir, Harlequins, HERd, and ComedySportz. Some
recent credits include Agnes in She Kills Monsters (University of Texas at
Austin), Broadway Evolved 2024, and Boston Conservatory Youth
Musical Theatre Intensive 2024. They plan to use the Honors Musical
experience to pursue a BFA in musical theater.
Caden Schive as Ensemble
Caden Schive is a sophomore at J.W. North High School, who is actively
involved in music, theater, and dance productions inside and outside of
class. He is excited to participate in his second Honors Musical
production as a member of the ensemble, and is thankful for the
experiences the program has brought him.
Emma Silva as Ensemble
Emma, a junior at J.W. North High school, is a member of Chamber
Singers, Show Choir, National Honor Society, and is the media manager
for the Multi Cultural-Council and HERd, This year she was in the North
production of Alice in Wonderland as a stage manager and has
written/acted in the One-Acts.
Nathaniel Suarez as Ensemble
Nathaniel is a junior at .W. North High School and is an active member
of the Harlequins and the Chambers Singers. Through the Honors
Musical program, Nathaniel has learned to be more confident in his
dancing and singing abilities. This rewarding process has made
Nathaniel better at his craft and he plans to continue in theater while
he pursues a career in pharmaceuticals.
Kamari Talley as Ensemble
Kamariis a senior at Ramona High School and is excited to be part of
this production. Getting to perform at the Fox Performing Arts Center is
her highest personal achievement and she will always strive to put her
best foot forward. After graduation, she plans to take her theater and
acting career further and looks forward to whatever opportunities may
come her way.
Emre Tuncel as Ensemble
Emre Tuncel is a freshman at J.W. North High School. He is very excited
to be part of the ensemble in this production. Emre is on the varsity
water polo team at North and is also involved in theater there. He has
been performing since first grade and has grown a lot through his
experience in the Honors Musical. Emre hopes to go to college and

Blake Atwater Audio Tech
Blake is a junior at Martin Luther King High School. He loves being part
of theater productions both on the technical side and acting.
Alexander Beuley Costume Tech
Alexander Beuley is a senior at Ramona High School. He has been part
of tech theater for the past three years in both crew and design. As part
of the Honors Musical Tech in Costumes he has learned new skills and
techniques to improve. He is excited to have this experience and use
this asa building point for future endeavors.

Isabella Champigny Stage Manager
Isabella is a junior at Poly High School. This is her third year in the
Honors Musical. In addition to theater, she also enjoys choir, Stage
Friends, sound designing, choreography, and generally enjoys showing
her passion through music and art. She couldn't have asked for
anything more from her Honors Musical experience. She hopes to use
all of these experiences in her future career.
Sage Clary Costume
Sage, a senior at Ramona High School, is heavily involved in the arts as a
member of theater, choir, and dance. As part of the Honors Musical,
Sage has learned how to work with others and collaborate. Sage plans
on pursuing a career in Cosmetology.
Matthew Cross Stage Manager
Matthew Cross, a senior at Arlington High School, is a member of both
Chamber Choir and Mens Choir and is a stage manager in Arlington
Theater. As a part of the Honors Musical, he has learned how to lead 2
large group and, most importantly, how to juggle new tasks while
staying responsible for previous tasks as well. He plans on using this
experience to be a responsible and flexible choir teacher after college.
Ariana Green Props
Ariana, a senior at Arlington High School, is a member of the Media Arts
program, Studio Arts Ceramics, and is vice president of the Lions’ Den
Players theatre department. As part of the Honors Musical, she learned
to get out of her comfort zone and challenge her creativity. She plans to
use this experience to help her pursue an arts-related career in the

Christopher Guzman Lighting Designer
Christopher is a senior at Ramona High School. This is his fourth year in
lighting design and he is thrilled to be working on the Honors Musical
for the third time. The Honors Musical has helped him build the
professional skills and knowledge to pursue lighting design in college
and as a career. He is working on getting his IATSE union card. His
dream is to tour with Broadway shows or big concerts.
Syerra Herrera Props
syerra, a sophomore at Martin Luther King High School, is a member of
the intermediate theater class, Peers Always Working Side by Side Club,
and Thespians Club. As part of the Honors Musical she learned to work.
as part of a team and to better manage her time. She plans to use this
experience as she pursues 4 career in nursing
Cassandra Heston Assistant Lighting Designer
Cassie, a junior at Martin Luther King High School, is the Secretary for
the Thespian Board at her school, a member of the ComedySportz
team, sings in the Cantabile Choir, plays tuba in the band, and is a
varsity member of the track and field team. She earned a JRay
nomination for her designs in The Little Mermaid, She hopes these
accomplishments will help her make theater a career in her future.
Eddie Huerta Props
Eddie Huerta, is a freshman at Martin Luther King High School. As part
of the Honors Musical, he has developed a passion for tech theater and
improved his ability to cooperate when working with other people. He
plans to use this experience and his new skills when he moves on to
studying Astrobiology in college.
Kai Kieft Costumes
kai Kieft is a junior at Ramona High School, She has been part of the
Ramona tech crew for a year and a half but this is her first time in the
Honors Musical. She's learned a lot about time management and how
to connect with many new and amazing people even through stressful
moments. Kai is planning to pursue a career in the medical field with
the help of Ramona's Health Careers and Patient Care program.
Rebelle Kukol Lighting
Rebelle is a junior at Ramona High School. They have participated in
seven productions prior to this one and are in the silver level of the
Riverside Arts Magnet. They hope that this musical will help prepare
them for future Honors productions. They also look forward to working
alongside other schools to help make the production great!STAGE CREW
Mya Lutali Props/Backstage Crew
Mya is a sophomore at Ramona High School. She was previously
involved with Riverside Children's Theatre as an actor and now techs for
these shows. At Ramona, Mya is involved in softball, United Student
Body, AVID, theater club and physics club. She is thrilled to be a part of

Joey McCarty Sound Design
Joey McCarty is a sophomore at Ramona High School. Joey has a
passion for all areas of the visual and performing arts, including film,
music, and tech theatre. He is a Gold Magnet member of Tech Theatre
and is very excited to be part of his second Honors Musical.
Chloe Mcintosh Props
Chloe is a senior at Ramona High School and has been a designer for
many shows. This is her first Honors Musical and has enjoyed the
experience and meeting new people who share a common interest.
Cole Morgan Sound Crew
Cole Morgan is a junior at Ramona High School and this is his first
Honors Musical. He has previously run tech for Ramona shows including
Fame, Little Shop of Horrors, and most recently, Eurydice, and he is very
excited to be a sound tech for one of his favorite musicals.
Braedyn Near Backstage Crew
Braedyn is a senior at J.W. North High School. He is the Stage Manager
Crew Chief in the Harlequins Club and is involved in many other clubs
on campus. This is Braedyn's third Honors Musical and he has done tech
in many theater shows in Riverside. He hopes to go toa 4-year
university to major in psychology and possibly double-majoring in
technical theater or stage management.
Kira Pringle Costumes
Kira is a freshman at Riverside STEM Academy. This is their first year
participating in theater; they are an actor in their home school and are
doing tech for the first time for the Honors Musical. Kira is using this
experience to learn to talk and communicate better with people. They
hope that the skills they learn as part of the costume crew will aid them
with their dream of becoming a paramedic.STAGE CREW
Isabel Stewart Stage Manager
Isabel, a junior at Martin Luther King High School, serves on the board of
her school's theater program and is active as a tech and stage manager
for their shows. As a part of the Honors Musical she learned many new
skills and techniques. She wants to use this experience to help further
her career, as she plans on pursuing stage management professionally.
Steviee Tennant Props/Backstage Crew
Steviee, a sophomore at Ramona High School, has been part of
productions for Act Out Enrichment and is a part of the theater club at
Ramona. She is thrilled to be part of this year's Honors Musical as she
has had a chance to improve her communication skills. These skills will
help her in the future as she is planning to goto university abroad.
Vincent Torres Lighting/Spotlight Operator
Vincent, a junior at Ramona High School, has been in tech theater for
three years and has been in multiple productions. Vincent recently
played a stone in the play Eurydice and he was incredibly grateful to
have the opportunity to try out acting for the first time. Vincent is
extremely excited to work in this Honors Musical production as part of
the lighting crew and the spotlight operator.
Camille Walker Props
Camille, a junior at Poly High School, is a proud member of the Poly
Theater Arts program, the art club, and is a volunteer for the Big
Brothers Big Sisters after school program. As part of the Honors Musical,
she has found great joy in stepping out of her comfort zone to work in
areas of theater other than acting. In the future, she plans to major in
arts and humanities and perhaps earn a degree in psychology.
Genevieve Younglove = °’0ps/Backstage Crew
Gen, a junior at STEM High School, is elated to return for her second
year as a tech for the Honors Musical. She has run deck and props for
past shows with Riverside Children’s Theatre and Riverside Community
Players, widening her experience in technical theatre. Gen hopes to
utilize all of her newfound skills to pursue technical theater, film
production, astrophysics, or international relations in the future.ORCHESTRA
Nicholas Aston-Nielsen Trombone
Nicholas, a senior at Martin Luther King High School, is a trombone and
baritone player in the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. As a
participant in the Honors Musical program, he has learned the
importance of time management and dedication, while interacting
with awesome students from other schools. Nicholas plans to use these
skills to pursue a life in music and education after high school.
Summer Balliger Alto Saxophone
Summer is a senior at Martin Luther King High School and is an alto.
saxophone player in the Honors Wind Ensemble. Being part of this,
musical has taught her how to quickly learn music and work together
with the actors and other musicians to put on a show. Although the
music score was challenging to learn, it was a fun experience that will
stay with her.
Sophia Burr Flugelhorn
Sophia, a senior french horn player at Martin Luther King High School,
has been involved previously in the Honors Musical as well as the
District Honor Band and the John Philip Sousa Honor Band. She has
experienced first-hand how preparing for the musical has shaped her
into a more disciplined and experienced player; two traits which she will
continue to apply in college next year when she majors in business.
Adrian Carreno Flugelhorn
Adrian, @ senior at J.W. North High School, plays mellophone in the Blue
Star Regiment Marching Band. He also plays trumpet and french horn
in Wind Symphony and Jazz Band. As part of the Honors Musical, he has
learned unique ways to express himself through music, while learning
how to make time to practice more intricate pieces. He plans on using
these newly developed skills in his future career as a chef.
Daniel Huizar Reyes Trumpet
Daniel is a junior at J.W. North High School and is part of the Wind
Symphony and Blue Star Regiment. The Honors Musical program
challenged him with demanding music, but he now feels more
confident and comfortable with difficult music because of this
challenge. Daniel plans to use this experience to become a professional
musician and even hopes to become a music professor.
Anthony Larios Trumpet
Anthony is a junior at Martin Luther King High School where he has
developed a passion for music. Known for his determination and
creativity, Anthony strives to perfect his craft both in and out of the
classroom. He dreams of continuing his musical journey in college and
plans to expand his abilities as a performer and composer. Anthony
aims to inspire others and make a lasting impact in the world of music.ORCHESTRA
Emiliano Montero Alto Saxophone
Emiliano, a senior at Arlington High School, is a member of the
Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the boys volleyball
team. He was honored to be saxophone section leader this past season.
He plans to use the experience he gained from the Honors Musical to
translate into skills that will help hirn in earning a degree in technology
after high school.
Khai Nguyen Baritone Saxophone
Khai Nguyen, a senior at Martin Luther King High school, is a member of
the Honors Wind Ensemble and plays baritone saxophone. Asa part of
the Honors Musical, he developed the ability to learn challenging music
quickly. Khai also enjoyed working with others.
Jessica Nielsen Tenor Saxophone
Jessica is a freshman at J.W. North High School. She is in North's
marching band, the Blue Star Regiment, and performed in the
saxophone trio in their field show this year on baritone sax. She plans to
audition for North's spring musical, Urine Town, on the soprano sax.

Anastasia Niemeier Flute
Anastasia is a junior at Martin Luther King High School and is a member
of the Honors Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. This is her second
year with the Honors Musical. As part of the Honors Musical, Anastasia
has been pushed to learn more difficult music and now feels more
confident in overcoming artistic and academic challenges.
Aubrey Olsen Clarinet
Aubrey, a senior at Martin Luther king High School, is a member of the
Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. She has been in the John Philip
Sousa Honor Band, the RUSD High School Honor Band, and is excited to
be participating in the Honors Musical Pit Orchestra for the second
time. Aubrey plans to use the technical skills she has learned in the
Honors Musical as she continues on to college.
Orion Pedroza Percussion
Orion, a sophomore at STEM High School, is the lead percussionist in
STEM's Honors Wind Ensemble, a frequent participant in the RUSD
Honor Band, and an amateur composer and arranger. While working
with the music of In the Heights, he has found the excitement he has
been searching for in music, and he can't wait to see how he can
implement his newfound skills into his other musical endeavors.ORCHESTRA
David Pérez Trombone
David, a senior at J.W. North High School, is involved in several
performing arts programs in and outside of school. He plays trombone
and tuba in Concert Band and was Drum Major in the Marching Band.
The Honors Musical program challenged him both musically and to
develop better time management. He plans to use his training as he
pursues a degree in music education.
David Porter Guitar
David is a senior at Martin Luther King High School and is a part of the
Honors Wind Ensemble as a bass clarinet player. The Honors Musical
has challenged him to learn how to read guitar sheet music and play
various complex chords and rhythms that he had not seen before. This
experience led to a big leap in skill for him and he plans to take music
with him as far as he can in all aspects of life.
William Preston Bass Guitar
William is @ senior at Martin Luther King High School. He is in Wind
Ensemble and was the Parade Drum Major for the 2024 marching
season, The Honors Musical has helped him learn how to read sheet
music for bass guitar and how to adapt to new environments and
improvise. He plans to study chemical engineering and possibly minor
in music performance in college.
William Starns Tenor and Soprano Saxophone
William Starns is a junior at Poly High School and is e member of the
wind ensemble. As part of the Honors Musical, he was challenged to
learn difficult and unfamiliar styles of music across two instruments.
This experience has helped him to become even more determined to
overcome adversity and he knows that this experience will stay with
him through his college and music career.
Sarah Tuska Flute and Piccolo
Sarah, a senior at Martin Luther King High School, is a member of the
Honors Wind Ensemble as well as the marching program. The Honors
Musical has taught her that working diligently can elevate a student's
performance level and musical knowledge as well as increase their
interest in creating music. She plans to use this experience to prepare
for future performances and intends to study music after high school.
Miles Watts Percussion
Miles Watts is a junior at Poly High School and is playing percussion for
the Honors Musical. After high school, he plans to study music at
Riverside City College and to transfer to UC Berkeley to finish his
education. He is also planning on joining RCC’s indoor percussion

Ella Young Flute
Ella is a senior at Poly High School. She is excited to participate in the
Honors Musical again and looks forward to new and fun opportunities in
the future. She wishes to go on to college and pursue music education

Giancarlo Anderson Percussion
Giancarlo Anderson, a seasoned drummer and multi-percussionist from
Colon, Panama, boasts over 30 years of musical expertise, specializing in
Afro-Caribbean instruments. He has passionately taught applied drums
and ethnic percussion, guiding emerging talents across diverse age
groups. During his tenure in New York City, Giancarlo collaborated
closely with jazz and Afro-Caribbean luminaries, enriching his
understanding of both music and culture. In Southern California's
vibrant Latin music scene, Giancarlo stands out as a go-to musician for
major Latin acts, often performing alongside top artists and occasionally
directing bands. He is a valued member of the multi-Grammy Award-
winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, renowned globally in their
genre. Giancarlo's versatile career encompasses collaborations with
leading Latin, pop, and jazz artists, along with studio work for
commercials, jingles, and soundtracks. Holding a Master's degree in
Music with a specialization in Jazz Studies from California State
University, Fullerton, he is dedicated to imparting musical knowledge
and fostering future generations’ talents.
Guillermo Avilés-
Rodriguez
Guillermo Avilés-Rodriguez, holds a PhD from UCLA's School of Theater
Film and Television. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Theatre Arts at CSUSB where he heads the Theatre Education program.
He is also the 2021 co-winner of the Lowrider Studies Scholer-Activist of
the Year Award, and was a member of the Young Scholars Symposium
Institute for Latino Studies at University of Notre Dame. In 2021 and 2022
he was a participant in the Mellon School for Theater & Performance
Research at Harvard university. His acadernic work can be found at:

Alastair Edmonstone Vocal Coach, Keyboard
Dr. Alastair Edmonstone has performed throughout the Americas,
Europe and Africa. Notable performances include recitals at Weill
Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), Ghent Conservatorium, Seattle Art Museum
and Boston's Jordan Hall. His chamber music partners include
members of the Baltimore, Boston, City of Birrningham, Cleveland,
Orpheus and Seattle Symphonies, as well as LA and Metropolitan Opera
Orchestras. His recording of Gunther Schuller’s Concerto for Percussion
and Keyboards can be found on Naxos Records. He is also featured
alongside soprano Lousie Toppin (U. Michigan} and countertenor Darryl
Taylor (UC Irvine) on a forthcoming anthology of new African American
art songs (Videmus Records). He studied at the University of
Washington (DMA), New England Conservatory (MM, GD) and
Birmingham Conservatoire (BMus). He is currently Collaborative Artist
and Music Director of Opera at CSU San Bernardino and was a visiting

Stacey Fraser Vocal Coach
Stacey Fraser has been described as having a "wonderfully controlled
soprano voice” by Alex Ross in the New York Times and “an astonishing
presence” by the San Diego Union-Tribune. The Canadian soprano's
eclectic musical interests have made her much in demand on
international operatic, concert, and theatre stages across the United
States, Canada, Asia, and Europe. Mark Swed of the Los Angeles Times
has described her rendition of Berio's Sequenza III as “a seamless aria,
sure of musical direction while missing none of the hurnor or the
frightening shocks of horror.” Credit highlights include the title role in
Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot by Peter Maxwell Davies; the starring role in
a music art film entitled Still Life After Death by Los Angeles-based
filmmaker Sandra Powers; the premiere of Grammy- winning composer
Jack Van Zandt's song cycle written for her, A Chaos of Light and
Motion; and director/ producer of Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass
and Robert Wilson. Current projects include a new recording of Ben
Johnston's Calamity Jane to her daughter for MicroFest Records and a
CD with Van Zandt, featuring his A Chaos of Light and Motion and
excerpts from his opera The New Frontier, to be released on Neuma in

Martim Galvao Audio Artist
Martim S. Galvao is a Brazilian-American composer, percussionist, and
multimedia artist whose work focuses on the exploration of sound in
relation to human-computer interfaces and the web. His compositions
and multimedia projects have been featured at venues such as the
International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression
(NIME), International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), ANT Fest at
Ars Nova, SPLICE Institute, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival
(NYCEMF), and Babycastles. Galvao holds a bachelor’s degree from
Emory University, an MFA in Integrated Composition, Improvisation,
and Technology from the University of California, Irvine, and a PhD in
‘Computer Music and Multimedia from Brown University. Currently, he
serves as an Assistant Professor in Music Technology at Cal State San
Bernardino.
Alex Henderson Trombone
Alex Henderson is a Southern California native who has been playing
trombone professionally for nearly three decades, He attended
Riverside City College and California State Los Angeles where he
majored in music. Henderson has performed with multiple artists
including Tito Puene, No Doubt, Green Day, LeAnn Rimes, The Brian
Setzer Orchestra, Wayne Newton, Burt Bacharach, Michael Buble, and
James Darren. For four years he was a touring member with Poncho
Sanchez before joining the well-known swing band Big Bad Voodoo
Daddy. On the road for more than 100 days a year, Big Bad Voodoo
Daddy participates in pops programs of the American Symphony
Orchestra, which includes the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood
Bowl Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and the Atlanta Symphony.
The band has appeared on several television shows such as Dancing
with the Stars, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan
O'Brien, and the Today Show. When he is not touring with Big Bad
Voodoo Daddy, Henderson freelances regularly with local orchestras,
rock and salsa bands, big bands, and jazz groups.PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS
Eileen Holt Sweet Flute
Ms, Holt Sweet has performed all over the United States and appeared
in Europe, Japan, and Canada. She has served as principal flutist with
many orchestras throughout the western United States, as well as
toured, recorded and performed with many well-known artists and
celebrities such as Michael Crawford, Julie Andrews, Placido Domingo,
and Elton John. She has twice appeared at Carnegie Hall as part of the
award winning ensemble, Calico Winds, and has had numerous
television appearances and radio interviews throughout the United
States, She has been privileged to perform with many well-known
conductors such as John Williams, Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, and
shared the stage with opera stars Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti,
Marilyn Horne, and Jessye Norman. Recording projects include those for
Walt Disney Productions, Sony Pictures, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Ms. Holt Sweet is on faculty at the Coil School for the Performing Arts as
well as at California State University, San Bernardino,
Roland Juarez Dance Coach
Being of Cuban descent, Roland has enjoyed the opportunity to spread
his love of Latin dance styles with this wonderfully talented cast. He
started working at RUSD in 201] as a Speech-Language Pathologist at
Longfellow Elementary. In 2078, he became one of the team members
of the district's bilingual assessment team, and is still currently on the
team serving students district wide. Roland started dancing in high
school and was an original member of UCR's Salsa Performance Team.
He then joined LA Fusion under the direction of 3X ESPN World
Champion, Zulmara Torres and Paco Evangelista. He also formed part of
and choreographed for a dance tearn based out of Orange County
called Rueda Madness, under the direction of Kimiko Simpson. Roland
has taught at various dance studios, and most recently taught at SALT
Dance Studios located by the Riverside Plaza. For the past 18 years, he
has been one of the choreographers for the Assistance League of San
Bernardino's Signature Headdress Ball, which is a fundraiser that
provides clothes for school and dental care services to the children of
San Bernardino.
Edgar Melendez Saxophone
Edgar Melendez is a professional saxophonist based in the Los
Angeles/inland Empire areas. Melendez is currently the professor of
saxophone and sax ensemble director at California State University,
San Bernardino. He has performed with the Santa Barbara and
Redlands Symphony. Edgar has performed at venues such as Walt
Disney Hall with the USC Wind Ensemble, The Granada Theater with
the Santa Barbara Symphony, and the Los Angeles County Museum
of Art with the University of California, Los Angeles Philharmonia
Currently, Edgar is performing with the award-winning Kintsugi Quartet
formed at USC (MTNA State Winners 2019, 2nd place MTNA
Southwestern Regionals 2019). He earned his doctoral degree from.
the University of Southern California in performance with an academic
field in music education; a Master of Music in performance from the
University of California, Los Angeles; and both his Bachelor of Arts
degrees in performance and music education from CSUSB.PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS
David Scott Trumpet
David Scott has been a freelance trumpeter and teacher in the Los
Angeles area since 1983. He is Principal Trumpet of the Redlands
symphony Orchestra, the Riverside Philharmonic, and the San
Bernardino Symphony. He recently retired after 20 years as Principal
and Associate Principal in the New West Symphony. Scott has recorded
four historically authentic albums with the Americus Brass Band. Scott's
solo CD, A Mighty Fortress-Dialogues for Trumpet and Organ, released
in 2019 features Allison Luedecke on the Casavante Organ in the
University of Redlands Memorial Chapel. Dr. Scott has toured the world
with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Americus Brass Band. Active as
a chamber musician, he is the leader of Desert Winds Brass and
Brazzmatazz. In addition to his performance career, Professor Scott has
been on the music faculty at the University of Redlands since 1998. He
directs the Redlands Trumpet Ensemble, the Studio Big Band, and the
University Symphonic Band.
Darren Villegas Muralist
Darren Villegas is an accomplished California muralist, and a native son
of the Inland Empire, with over twenty years of mural painting
experience. His colorful and distinctly vibrant murals can be seen
throughout the Riverside, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland, and
Inland Empire regions of California, Darren is also an art educator and
mural project coordinator, with long standing residencies with the
Mission Urban Arts program in San Francisco's Mission District, and the
Visual Element mural arts program in Oakland's Fruitvale District. His
murals have been featured in numerous art publications and have
received several awards, including a Certificate of Appreciation in the
Arts, from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He is currently
residing in Riverside, California where he continues to initiate and

Robert Marshall Percussion
Robert Marshall is a percussionist with experience in orchestra, drum
corps, and in musical pits. Robert has always loved music from a young
age and was cut out to be a musician from the beginning. He currently
attends Riverside City College as a music major and is an RUSD
graduate.
Darren Yohonn Keyboard
Darren is a Poly High School graduate and has a Bachelor's degree in
Physics from the University of California Riverside. Currently the choral
accompanist for both North and Poly High School, Darren has lent his
talents to numerous productions, including The Wedding Singer,
Hairspray, Rock of Ages, Such Sweet Sorrow, High School Musical, in
the Heights, Head Over Heels, and Mamma Mia. When not behind the
keys, he enjoys rock climbing and traveling. He's thrilled to bring his

Dominique Araiza-Cauldwell Director,
Choreographer
Dominique is honored to make her directorial debut. In the Heights
holds @ special place in her heart and she is thrilled for audiences to
enjoy this wonderful story of a community who celebrates family,
culture and dreams. She previously choreographed Beauty and the
Beast, Chicago, Hairspray, and Such Sweet Sorrow for the Honors
Musical and Arts Experience. Dominique has a BA in Theatre with a
minor in Dance from UC Riverside and a Master's degree in Education
from Chapman University. She began training in classical ballet and jazz
at Riverside Ballet Arts and Inland Pacific Ballet Academy at the age of
six. Her passion for dance turned into a love of musical theatre in high
school. After an opportunity to study abroad at Cambridge University,
Dominique immersed herself in the world of Shakespeare and has
enjoyed the opportunity to both perform and add choreographic
elements to the Bard's work with various theatre companies. She has
been performing and choreographing throughout Southern California
for the past nineteen years. Some choreographer credits include 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (UC Riverside), Love's Labour's
Lost (UC Riverside}, In the Heights (John W. North High School), The
Wedding Singer (Diamond Bar High School), and Dracula: the Musical?
(Redlands Footlighters). She has earned two Inland Theatre League
awards for her portrayals of Minnie Fay in Hello Dolly! (Performance
Riverside) and Queen Gertrude in Sleeping Beauty (Junior University).
She would like to thank her husband, Mike, two children, and parents
for their support, help, and love. Thank you to the production team;
Jessica McCarty, Anna Hightower, Tyler Hays, and Maria Hong for
helping make this wonderful story come to life. Lastly, to Annemarie

Molly Brooke Becker Assistant Producer
Molly Brooke Becker serves as the Arts Team Certificated Site Support
for TK-12 Arts. This year Molly is particularly proud of the relationships
she has developed with 87 arts teachers and over 50 professional artists.
Together with this team, she planned 8 professional development days
in the arts and supported approximately 470 arts events and programs.
In addition, Molly revived the district-wide arts calendar to organize and
highlight ail of the arts opportunities in the district. This year marks the
third opportunity Molly has had to be part of the Honors Musical. She is
so grateful to all of the teachers, students, staff, and families who come
together to make this an unforgettable experience.
Alejandra Garcia Assistant Producer
Alejandra Garcia, Arts Administrative Assistant, joined the Arts team in
January 2023. Now with over a full year of experience working with the
arts team, she has participated in various district-wide events, such as
the annual Chalk Day festival and the Honors Musical. Alejandra has
procured 41 contracts and over 90 purchase requisitions for new
instruments for the Elementary Music program and new supplies for
RUSD Arts district-wide events. In addition, Alejandra's degree in
journalism brings her expertise in graphic design and copy editing to
the Arts Team. Alejandra has been involved with every aspect of
costuming, make-up, and the set for this production.CREATIVE TEAM
Annemarie Guzy Producer
Annemarie Guzy, MM, is the RUSD Visual and Performing Arts Specialist,
coordinating district-wide arts initiatives and community connections
to ensure that all students reach their highest creative potential. During
the 2023-24 school year, she oversaw 520 district-wide events and 82
projects, managed 190 community partnerships, and supported arts
education for 30,783 students. With a Masters in Piano Performance
from New England Conservatory, and a Bachelors dual degree in
English Literature and Music from Brown University, Ms. Guzy has
produced live concerts and events both nationally and internationally at
the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, and the City of
Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the United Kingdom. A native of
Los Angeles, Ms. Guzy is recognized for her creativity, vibrancy, and
innovative approach to live performance and educational programs.
Tyler Hays Vocal Director
Tyler Hays earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Biola
University and his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from California
Baptist University. He had the privilege of studying with great educators
such as Melchor Carrillo, Dr. Shawna Stewart, and Dr. Gene Peterson.
Over the years, Tyler has performed at the Western Division ACDA
Conference and the National NCCO Conference, as well as taken on
leading roles in Little Women, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, Once
Upon a Mattress, and Street Scene. After two years of teaching in the
Central Valley, he is now in his second year at Arlington High School. Mr.
Hays is passionate about vocal excellence and choral artistry and is
excited for his contributions as the vocal coach for this production. He is
deeply grateful to his wife and daughter for their unwavering support
and to the Arlington Choir Program for everything we do.
Anna Hightower Vocal Director
Anna is in her 10th year as the Theatre Teacher at John W. North High
School, where she has directed favorites such as Into the Woods, Head
Over Heels and their award-winning production of High School Musical
(Lucie Arnaz Outstanding Musical). She has a BFA in Musical Theatre
from The Boston Conservatory, and has been seen performing across
the country as well as in our local theater community, appearing in
shows such as All My Sons (Ann), ..Spelling Bee (Olive) and Into the
Woods (Rapunzel). She also shares her love for musical theatre with
young people through organizations like Riverside Children’s Theatre
and coaches private vocal students. She would like to thank her family
(especially her sons Beckett & Evan, and husband Ryan) for their
support and patience, and her wonderful collaborators Dom, Tyler,
Janie, Jessica, Maria, Molly and Annemarie, and this incredible cast, crew

Janie Hilland Conductor
Janie Hilland is in her 8th year teaching choir at John W. North High
School. She earned her bachelor's degree in vocal performance and
music education from University of Redlands as well as her master's
degree in conducting. Since working in RUSD, Janie has conducted
several musicals including three RUSD Honors Musicals - Such
‘Sweet Sorrow, A Chorus Line: High School Edition, Chicago: Teen
Edition, and North's productions of High Schoo! Musical, Bye Bye Birdie,
and Head Over Heels. Janie has also vocal directed shows including
Addams Family, Little Shop of Horrors, Urinetown, and more. In the
Heights has been such a special show to work on and she is so grateful
for the time and talent of our RUSD instrumental students. She would
like to thank them for their hard work, dedication, and humor
throughout the process! Janie would like to express her deepest
appreciation and thanks to Spenser Kalnin and Shawn Schive for their
constant support for her and mentorship to the orchestra students
throughout this process. Putting this show together on a district level is

Maria Hong Costume Design, Makeup Artist
Maria Hong has been designing costumes for over a decade. A few
recent shows she has been a part of include Cinderella, into the Woods,
Mary Poppins, Head Over Heels, She Kills Monsters, and LA's premiere
productions of plays Pang Spa and Two Stop. Although Maria
graduated from USC with a degree in East Asian Areas Studies, she is
grateful to have found her passion for theatre and more specifically
costume design later in life, a great reminder that it is never too late to
follow your heart. Maria loves how costumes play an integral part in
storytelling, especially stories that incorporate positive representation of
marginalized communities. Sharing these human experiences are what
she finds to be the heart of live theatre. In designing costumes, what
Maria finds most rewarding are connecting with like-minded people
and making a positive impact in the lives of all involved. She is humbled
by the support she receives from the theatre community, friends, and
family to pursue her passion; words cannot convey the gratitude felt,
and she takes nothing for granted. Maria is beyond thrilled to be part of
this production team for the Honors Musical. She is honored to bring In
the Heights to the stage with such talented students from RUSD. The
team and students have been a joy to work with, She has much
gratitude and respect for those who work so hard to keep arts in the
schools and create such an amazing opportunity for the students of
RUSD.
Spenser Kalnin Music Coach
Spenser Kalnin is a multi-instrumentalist band leader performing and
recording with professional jazz, rock, and country music groups
located in Southern California, Las Vegas, and Nashville. A native of
Riverside, he has been playing piano since age five, violin since age nine,
and trumpet since age ten. During his senior year at Poly High School,
he performed in the 2001 All-State Honor Band and All-State Jazz
Bands. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Redlands in
Music Education in 2005 and is working on a masters degree in
Learning and Teaching. He is currently the orchestra instructor at Poly
High School and he teaches elementary band, strings, and general
music across the district.—

Jessica McCarty Technical Director
Jessica is an alumnus of Ramona High School; she pursued her
Bachelor of Arts in Theatre: Technical and a minor in Music at Dordt
University in lowa, studying under Teresa Ter Haar, Laura Berkompas,
and Josiah Wallace. Jessica has her Master's of Education and Teaching
Credential from the University of California, Riverside. Under her
direction, Ramona’s Theatre Program has evolved and received
nominations and awards from JRAYS, the Lucie Arnaz Awards, and
CETA, Notable awards include: Best Theatre Performance from the
Riverside Arts Council's Mayor's Ball, Best Choreography from the Lucie
Arnaz Awards. Ramona’s 2023 Fall Production of The Wolves received
3rd place in Area 2 and performed at the SoCal CETA Festival last
January. She would like to thank everyone involved throughout this
production and her family for all their support
Shawn Schive Rehearsal Coach, Trumpet
Mr. Schive is proud to serve as Director of Instrumental Music at John W.
North High School in Riverside, CA. A proud product of the fine teaching
at North, he graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University
in 2022 with his Bachelor of Music in Music Learning and Teaching.
While in college, Mr. Schive was an active member of the ASU Trumpet
Studio under Canadian Brass performer Joe Burgstaller and served as
the drum major of the 400-member Sun Devil Marching Band. His
experience in the marching arts has taken him all over the world,
performing in cities such as Las Vegas, Honolulu, Paris, and Southern
China. One of his proudest educational achievements is serving as a
staff member for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, a summer
leadership workshop that serves thousands of high school band
students from across the United States. Mr. Schive is thrilled to be a part
