1.HISTORICAL CONTEXT
➢ Ancient Glory: India, known as Bharat, was once a
global leader in knowledge, trade, and culture. It
gave the world advancements in mathematics,
science, art, and spirituality .
➢ Colonial Struggles :Centuries of foreign rule drained
India’s resources and slowed its progress. When India
gained independence in 1947, it faced challenges
like poverty, illiteracy, and underdevelopment. The
Turning Point: The 1991 economic reforms opened
doors to globalization and rapid growth. Initiatives
like Green Revolution, space missions (ISRO), and
advancements in IT transformed the nation.
➢ Today’s India: A rising global power balancing its rich
heritage with modern aspirations.On the path to
becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047, the centenary of
its independence.
2. CURRENT ACHIEVEMENTS OF BHARAT
India's progress across various sectors is propelling it towards
becoming a global superpower.
➢ Economic Growth Global Ranking: India is the 5th largest economy with a GDP of
$3.7 trillion (2023), surpassing the UK. First and Second Economies: The USA is the
largest with a GDP of $25.5 trillion. China follows with a GDP of $18 trillion. Third and
Fourth Economies: Japan is third with a GDP of $4.4 trillion. Germany is fourth with a
GDP of $4.3 trillion. Fastest Growing Major Economy: India’s GDP growth for 2023-24 is
projected at 6-6.5%, outpacing many developed nations. Contribution to Global
GDP: India contributes around 7% to the global economy, and its share is expected
to grow further.
➢ Digital Transformation with UPIUnified Payments Interface (UPI): UPI has revolutionized
India’s payment system and is now a global benchmark for financial inclusion.
Transaction Volume: UPI processed over 10 billion transactions in October 2023 alone.
Annually, UPI handles transactions worth over $1.5 trillion. Rural Penetration: More
than 40% of UPI transactions now come from rural areas, showing its success in
connecting villages to the digital economy. Small shopkeepers, farmers, and daily
wage workers are adopting UPI for cashless payments. Global Expansion: UPI is being
adopted in countries like Singapore, UAE, and France, boosting India’s soft power
and technological leadership.
➢ Space Technology Chandrayaan-3 (2023): India became the first country to land on
the Moon’s south pole, showcasing its innovation and precision in space exploration.
Mars Orbiter Mission (2014): India achieved a historic feat by entering Mars orbit on its
first attempt at a low cost of $74 million. Global Space Partner: ISRO provides satellite
services to over 50 countries and is a key player in commercial space ventures.
3.IMPORTANCE OF VIKSIT BHARAT
❑ The importance of Viksit Bharat lies in its potential to transform the
country into a global powerhouse and improve the lives of its citizens.
Here's a breakdown of its significance:

➢ Economic Growth: A developed India means a strong economy with more


jobs, better industries, and improved living standards for everyone. This
helps reduce poverty and ensures that all regions of the country grow
equally.
➢ Global Trade Hub: India sits at the center of the Indian Ocean, where 60%
of the world’s trade flows. A strong and developed India can make global
trade smoother and safer.
➢ Leader in Space Technology: With achievements like the Chandrayaan and
Mangalyaan missions, India is becoming a leader in space exploration. A
Viksit Bharat will use space technology for better communication, disaster
management, and helping other nations.
➢ Strong Security Forces: India’s army, navy, and air force protect not just its
borders but also ensure safety in the Indian Ocean, where much of the
world's trade happens. A developed India will have stronger defense
systems to protect its people and contribute to global peace.
➢ Better Living for Citizens: A developed India means better jobs, advanced
healthcare, and quality education for everyone.It ensures safety, prosperity,
and equal opportunities for all citizens.
3.IMPORTANCE OF VIKSIT BHARAT
➢ Improved Agriculture :
A Vikshit Bharat focuses on using modern farming techniques. This
leads to better crop yields and more efficient use of water and land,
making agriculture sustainable for the long term.

➢ Better Infrastructure :
With development, Bharat will have better roads, railways, airports,
and modern cities. This makes travel and transportation easier and
connects different parts of the country more efficiently.

➢ Innovation and Sustainability:


India can lead in new technologies like green energy and artificial
intelligence. It will inspire other countries by balancing growth with
protecting the planet.

➢ A Global Power:
As a Viksit Bharat, India will shape global decisions and promote
peace, cooperation, and progress for all nations
4. Infrastructure Development
➢ Smart Cities Mission: Over 100 smart cities are being developed, each with modern
technology, better living standards, and sustainable solutions.
➢ Patna Metro: Patna, the capital of Bihar, is also part of India’s growing urban transformation
with the launch of Patna Metro. The metro system will enhance connectivity, reduce traffic,
and contribute to more efficient urban transportation, making Patna a part of the smart city
movement.
➢ Transport Revolution: Vande Bharat Express trains symbolize India’s leap in high-speed rail.
50,000 km of highways have been built in the last decade, improving road connectivity
nationwide.
➢ Green Energy Leadership: India is the third-largest producer of renewable energy with a
capacity of over 125 GW in solar and wind power.
5. Defense and Security Self-Reliant
Defense
Indigenous technologies like Tejas fighter jets, BrahMos missiles, and INS Vikrant (aircraft carrier)
reflect India’s defense capabilities.
➢ Indian Ocean Security: India ensures the safety of 60% of the world’s maritime trade routes in
the Indian Ocean, a key global shipping zone.
➢ UN Peacekeeping: India remains one of the largest contributors to the United Nations
Peacekeeping Forces, promoting global stability.
6. Social Progress Healthcare:
Under Ayushman Bharat, over 500 million people have
access to free healthcare.

➢ Skill Development: Skill India has trained over 15


million youth, preparing them for future industries.

➢ Women Empowerment: Programs like Beti


Bachao, Beti Padhao have significantly increased
girls’ education and workforce participation.

Vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047 India’s vision for 2047, the centenary of its
independence, is to become a fully developed nation, characterized by:

➢ Economic Prosperity: India aims to become the third-largest economy in the


world by 2047, with a GDP of $10 trillion. It will be a global hub for innovation,
manufacturing, and trade.
➢ Sustainable Development: India will lead in green energy, with a 500 GW
renewable energy capacity and a commitment to carbon neutrality.
Technological Leadership: India will be at the forefront of artificial intelligence,
space exploration, and digital technology, contributing globally in key areas
like healthcare, defense, and infrastructure.
➢ Inclusive Growth: Poverty will be eradicated, and every citizen will have access
to quality healthcare, education, and job opportunities.
➢ Urban Transformation: Smart cities like Patna and others will be fully developed,
with advanced infrastructure and sustainable living.
➢ Global Influence: India will be a leading voice in global forums, promoting
peace, sustainable development, and economic cooperation. By 2047, India
will be an example of a nation that has achieved inclusive growth,
technological advancements, and global leadership, all while preserving its
rich cultural heritage.
8. Government Policies and Programs for Viksit Bharat
India’s vision for becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047 is supported by several key
government policies and programs aimed at fostering economic growth, social
welfare, and sustainability. Some of the key initiatives include:
➢ Make in India Objective: To transform India into a global manufacturing hub and
increase domestic production.
➢ Digital India Objective: To empower citizens through digital technology and ensure
government services are accessible to all. Key Focus: Expanding internet
connectivity, promoting e-governance, and facilitating digital payments.
➢ Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) Objective: To ensure financial inclusion
by providing access to banking services for the unbanked population. Key.
➢ Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) Objective: To make India self-sufficient in
manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. Key Focus:
➢ Ayushman Bharat Objective: To provide universal health coverage to all citizens.
Key Focus: Offering free healthcare through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya
Yojana (PMJAY), which covers 500 million people.
➢ Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Objective: To eliminate open defecation and improve
sanitation across India. Key Focus: Building toilets, promoting hygiene, and creating
awareness about cleanliness. Impact: Over 100 million toilets constructed, making
India cleaner and healthier.
➢ Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Objective: To provide affordable housing for
all by 2022. Key Focus: Construction of houses for the urban and rural poor, ensuring
shelter for every citizen

Tourism in India: Focus on Bodh Gaya Bodh Gaya, located in Bihar, is one of the
most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites globally, attracting millions of visitors each
year.
➢ Bodh Gaya's Significance Mahabodhi Temple: The temple, where Lord Buddha
attained enlightenment, is a major spiritual destination.
• Global Pilgrimage: Pilgrims from countries like Japan, Thailand, and Sri Lanka visit
for spiritual retreats and meditation.
➢ Tourist Arrivals 1.5 million visitors annually visit Bodh Gaya, with the majority being
international pilgrims.
• Peak Season: From October to March, especially during the Buddha Jayanti
Festival in April.
➢ National Tourism Impact Contribution to GDP: The tourism sector contributes
about 6.8% to India’s GDP, with religious tourism playing a significant role. Visitor
Data: In 2022, India received 6.7 million international tourists, with religious sites like
Bodh Gaya driving a substantial portion of visits.
➢ Infrastructure Connectivity: Gaya International Airport and Bodh Gaya Railway
Station offer easy access to tourists.
• Government Initiatives: Schemes like Swadesh Darshan aim to develop
infrastructure and promote tourism in Bodh Gaya.
➢ Challenges and Opportunities Sustainability: Managing increased tourist numbers
while preserving heritage is a challenge.
