Types of Profit Margin Ratios

1. Gross Profit Margin

Formula:
Gross Profit Margin = (Revenue - Cost of Goods Sold) / Revenue × 100

2. Operating Profit Margin

Formula:
Operating Profit Margin = Operating Profit / Revenue × 100
Where Operating Profit = Gross Profit - Operating Expenses

3. Net Profit Margin


Net Profit Margin shows the percentage of revenue left after all expenses, including taxes
and interest, have been deducted. It represents the overall profitability of the company.
Formula:
Net Profit Margin = Net Profit / Revenue × 100
Where Net Profit = Total Revenue - Total Expenses

4. EBITDA Margin
EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) Margin measures
profitability before accounting for interest, taxes, and non-cash expenses. It provides insight
into a company’s core profitability.
Formula:
EBITDA Margin = EBITDA / Revenue × 100
Where EBITDA = Operating Profit + Depreciation + Amortization
