Screen Time Org

This study investigates the prevalence of screen time and its association with social skill delays in children aged 2 to 6 years, highlighting concerns about excessive screen use and its negative impact on various developmental outcomes. The research will utilize surveys and direct observations to assess screen time and social skill development, aiming to determine the percentage of children exceeding recommended screen time limits. The study seeks to establish a correlation between screen time duration and social skill delays among the target population.

PREVALENCE OF SCREEN TIME ON SOCILA SKILL DELAY IN CHILDREN AGED 2 TO 6 YEARS

ABSTRACT:
INTRODUCTION
Screening time is the amount of time that the children spend watching television ,playing
video games, and using mobile phones ,tablets, and other electronics devices.
Previous studies have reported association between screen time and child development
outcomes. These outcomes include communication, daily living skills ,socialization, gross and
fine motor skills ,personal and social skills, cognitive development ,social emotional
development, language development, attention problems, behavioral problems , and
developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder
This study aims to investigate the prevalence of screen time and its association with social
skill delays in children aged 2 to 6 years
REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
The American Academy of pediatrics recommends limiting the children between 2 and 5
years to 1 h per day of high quality programming ,but recent (2008-2020) cohort studies
indicate that most families do not follow these guidelines.
Excessive screen media use according to the recommendation of WHO was defined as
follows : children aged 0-12 months exposed to media device or children aged 2-7 years
exposed to media use more than 1 h/ day.
Zimmerman et al. have reported positive parental perception of screen time might explain
explain early exposure to screen . Parents believed that screening media ,if appropriately
used ,is educational and useful to their child’s brain development . population based studies
continues to show negative impact between television viewing in early childhood (0-2) years
and cognitive development , language development and social-emotional delays.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the average daily screen time of children aged 2 to 6 years .
To identify the correlation between screen time duration and social skill development .
METHODS
A Population based cross sectional study will be conducted to determine the prevalence of
excessive screen time and its association with social skill delays in children aged 2 to 7 years.
a. Target Population
®Inclusion criteria :
© Children aged 2-7 years
®Parents/ guardian willing to provide consent.
Children who have access to screen based devices (TV, Smartphones .tablets ,etc.)
Children with diagnosed neurological or developmental disorder unrelated
to screen time.
Children enrolled in therapy or interventions specifically addressing social skills
Data will be collected through surveys administered to parents , along with 100
children’s social interactions. Statistical analysis will be conducted to determine the
relationship between screen time and social skill delays.
PARENT REPORTED QUESTIONNAIRES
Parents report the amount and type of screen time their child engage in.
Develop or adapt a structured questionnaire.
DIRECT OBSERVATION
Researcher observe children in natural settings (e.g., home or daycare ) and record screen
use.
RESULT
The study will determine the percentage of children aged 2-7 years who exceed the
recommended screen time limits set by the American Academy of Pediatrics
Using standardized assessment tools ,the study will estimate the percentage of children
exhibiting social skill delays.
The primary objective of the study is to explore whether there is an association between
excessive screen time and social skill delays.
