INTRODUCTION

The internship aims to give students the opportunity to apply the

knowledge acquired at the university to real cases, in order to complement
their academic training by gaining experience in professional practice. The
internship period is a stage where every student can and should be able to
demonstrate the knowledge obtained throughout their university educational
period. This phase is an opportunity for the apprentice to provide the company
with his or her knowledge and put it into practice to improve it every day while
receiving additional knowledge that was not taught in the classroom.

The student begins to develop his future by acquiring knowledge through

theories in classes, personal, student and work relationships. He begins to
realize the importance of studying and that there is no time to waste when he
is in it. Its development is based on putting into practice what has been
learned in class and this will be reinforced at the same time that the
internships begin, which is the framework for the completion of the
undergraduate degree.

Graphic Design has become the axis of communication today, since due to
the development of digital technology, this discipline is the one that has the
knowledge and tools to assume the strategic planning of symbols and
arrangement of information, thus becoming the career par excellence for the
practice of advertising, publishing, communication and signage par
excellence.

Over the past few years, increased competition within the graphic arts
market has produced a phenomenon that translates into lower quality
products. The work of the Community Manager on social networks must be
well accompanied by the work of a good graphic designer who adapts the
images to the social media that interests us.

This report will present the activities carried out by the intern in the Graphic

1
1
Design Department at the company Grafic Castillo FP (Publink) located in
Puerto Ordaz, Bolívar State throughout the internship period; starting with
familiarization with the company and the department worked, up to those
specific activities developed in each of the areas that make up the
department. The development of graphic arts for the company's social
networks is the fundamental intention of this report. This company is
responsible for digital graphic design, giant graphics, pop material, community
manager, social media, digital strategy and digital marketing relations or
purposes.

The report will be composed of (3) three chapters that allow to present in a
clear and logical manner the aspects and stages of the work carried out during
the internship. The first of them corresponds to the planning phase, in which
the objectives, methods, work plan and a brief description of the company are
detailed.

The first chapter outlines the rationale for the internship, indicating the
company's problems, general and specific objectives, and finally the schedule
of activities.

The second chapter is the name of the company, historical overview,

mission, vision, values, objectives, organizational structure (organizational
chart), main functions, legal framework, specific structure of the unit where the
internships were carried out and its main functions.

The third and final chapter is the Description of the activities carried out,
indicating the achievements obtained in each activity, conclusions,
recommendations, bibliographical references and annexes.

CAPITULO I

OBJECTIVES AND BASIS OF THE INTERNSHIP

1
2
Rationale for the internship

Internships allow students to put into practice all the theoretical and
practical knowledge acquired throughout their studies, which makes them
essential for the student's professional development. They also allow them to
learn how life is in the industrial area, as well as to learn new techniques and
skills. During this stage, the intern will be able to obtain prior preparation,
which will allow him/her to perform better in the professional field. It is very
important to highlight that internships tend to leave a great contribution for the
company, since all the work carried out by the intern remains, which in one
way or another solves some problems that have not been executed at that
time. They also benefit the student to specialize in different areas
corresponding to the career.

Orihuela (2008) deputy director of the multimedia communication

laboratory “social networks are the new virtual spaces in which we relate and
in which we build our identity” (p.59).

Social networks are websites on the Internet that help us communicate

and entertain ourselves. Along with the evolution of the Internet, they have
helped keep in touch a huge global network that connects organizations,
communities and people; they are the easiest, fastest and newest means to
transmit or receive information, the best thing is that anyone can use them,
even small and large companies have taken advantage of these media to
reach new customers. They are a source of great help for marketers, since
they use them as their main tool, since it imposes perceptions to strengthen
advertising at the time of a sale. These networks are used to sell, display
products and gain popularity in your business; Facebook, Instagram and web
pages are used.

As time goes by, we see that when it comes to communicating with a

customer, sellers prefer to use a social network to communicate, rather than

1
3
doing so in person. This has given them very good results when it comes to
having a conversation between seller and buyer, for people who have small
businesses.

Therefore, a well-crafted graphic line provides good positioning to brands

and distinguishes them from others that have a presence on social networks.
This creates a bond between the brand and the consumers who follow it in
digital communities, and in certain cases, makes the brand more relevant.
Rather, a piece of design is capable of generating "word of mouth" advertising
within the networks. Well-designed art draws attention and can be used to
implement actions such as: a share, a 'like', a comment or a repost.

The case of the company Grafic Castillo FP (Publink), registered in 2013.

Located in the Villa Colombia urbanization, block 53, house #6, Puerto Ordaz,
Bolivar state, the owners want to begin expanding their client portfolio through
the Facebook social network. They consider that creating visual material for
their network will promote their commercial activity, disseminate their
corporate image and attract potential clients with the decision to create a
presence on the Internet as a brand. From a marketing point of view, the
challenge that companies currently face is to take advantage of the benefits
offered by the new Web of social networks in order to reach customers directly
and individually, capture their attention, allow interrelation, increase their trust,
access their social networks of influence and, ultimately, strengthen the links
and relationships that are established between companies and potential
clients distributed in said networks.

This can be beneficial for entrepreneurs and small businesses, as is the

case with Grafic Castillo FP (Publink), which is seeking to expand its contact
base. These networks often act as a customer relationship management tool
for companies selling products and services. Companies can also use social
media for advertising in the form of banner ads and text messages, since
more than 70% of the population has a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram

1
4
account. They are among the most popular and influential social media
networks in the world. It is estimated that a person spends more than 1 hour
of their time interacting with another user live. The visual aspect is a key factor
in capturing the attention of users and ensuring that the brand is perceived in
a positive way.

Social media is transforming the way people access information about all
kinds of products and services. The new online communication model will
force companies to update their marketing and communication strategies.
Consumers no longer want to limit themselves to receiving information about a
particular product or service; users also want to be part of the process of
promoting it through social networks.

Considering the above, the following questions arise:

What company information will be used to prepare the graphic arts?

What type of format to use for Graphic Arts?

What are the graphic elements that will be included to carry out the Graphic
Arts?

What would the final design of Graphic Arts look like?

CHAPTER III

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITIES EXECUTED

This chapter describes the activities carried out within the company over the
course of 8 weeks.

Week 1, 2 and 3 from 05/07/2018 to 05/25/2018

Objective: Collect company information to carry out graphic arts.

Activity: Induction, Presentation of company staff, Meeting with the business

tutor, Collection of company information.

First week from 05/07/2018 to 05/11/2018

At the beginning of the internship, an induction was carried out, where

there was a talk with those in charge about the company, the mission and
vision that said company has, the clientele to whom it manages its social
networks and to whom it offers any other type of graphic design, its strengths
and weaknesses, its work method, its functions, the type of program they work
with, which is Adobe Photoshop, and the regulations.

We talked about design in general, we talked about the programs that I

know how to use and the ones I don't know much about, we got to the point of
talking about the price of a designer's work, and finally we talked about
experiences in the graphic design career, experiences in the work area, the
pros and cons of the career, in projects as a company and on a personal level.

Second week from 05/14/2018 to 05/18/2018

In this second week was the presentation to the staff that works in the
company that would be my coworkers and at the end of the internship great

2
3
friends, there are not many workers therefore it would be much better to have
a good coexistence and get to know each other better, I met them, they taught
me and I learned a lot from them, from the work that each one of them does,
the passion and dedication with which they dedicate themselves to working on
each activity, each work assignment.

I was assigned the area where I would work. Then I was assigned and
introduced to the business tutor with whom several titles were proposed for the
internship report until later the one for designing graphic arts for the social
network Facebook was obtained, since it is the social network that they do not
keep very active and they want to take up again.

Third week from 05/21/2018 to 05/25/2018

In the third week, the company's information gathering began. The

business tutor provided me with all the required information and the company's
corporate identity, its legal name, mission, vision, historical overview,
corporate logo, fiscal address, contacts. In addition, everything related to the
subject of Graphic Arts was researched on the Internet to prepare the final
report.

Week 4 from 05/28/2018 to 06/01/2018

Objective: Select the type of format for Graphic Arts.

Activity: Tutoring for Graphic Arts, Format Selection.

In the fourth week, I had a tutorial with the business tutor for the realization
of the Graphic Arts, where he explained and advised me on the entire
corresponding topic, showing me the graphic arts that they have done so that
what I focused on would be transmitted and the essence of the company
would be perceived, he advised me and helped me to have a clear topic of
what I wanted to convey in the Graphic Arts and they were divided into three
sections:

2
4
Motivational: Provides inspiration and stimulation towards achieving company
goals and objectives and invites users to always improve. In this design the
photographs and images that were chosen were about Venezuela,

Advertising: consists of the dissemination of advertisements to attract

potential buyers, users, clients, which is developed for commercial purposes.
This section is basically responsible for advertising the services offered by the
company and helping the dog foundation.

Interaction: In this section, the goal was to reach out to users, using phrases
to wish them good morning, good afternoon, or a message for a holiday.

After that we began with the selection of the format for these Graphic Arts that
was appropriate and correct for the social network Facebook since each social
network has its established format.

The format to be used will be:

• Square posts: 1200x1200 pixels.

The format in which the image will be exported in this case the selected
format will be PNG taking into account the quality, and the resolution that each
image must have will be from 72 to 150 pixels for better compression when
publishing the image.

Week 5 from 06/04/2018 to 06/08/2018

Objective: To establish the graphic elements that will be included in the

Graphic Arts.

Activities: The appropriate color palette was determined, Image selection,

Choice of typography according to the image.

For the fifth week, the appropriate color palette was determined, which is a
combination of warm and cool colors, following the range of colors that

2
5
represent the company so that the client can become familiar with the graphic
arts.

The same colors as those of the corporate image were used for the range
of colors

Figure Nº1: Company logo Source: Álvarez, Cecilia (2018)

#009bdb #c2c2c2 #fded00

Blue: will add touches of serenity, sophistication and confidence to our

designs, as well as a touch of freshness.

Gray: A neutral gray embodies the idea of sobriety, practicality, stillness.

Yellow: will contribute to a greater feeling of energy, spontaneity and youth; it

will transmit impressions of light and warmth.

It began with the search for suitable images for graphic arts, that could
reflect what was wanted to be conveyed and that were in line with each theme,
in free image banks such as pixabay.

A test and choice of typography was then carried out to determine which
would best fit the image, looking for a typography that would be legible, pretty
and in keeping with the style that the company wanted to implement, with good
results with the final choice.

Serif, as it is a typeface with ornamentation, can be pretty to give greater

appeal to the image.

Report was delivered.

Week #6 from 06/11/2018 to 06/15/2018

In the sixth week, having already the information, the format and the
graphic elements, we began to develop proposals with the Adobe Photoshop
program, which is the program used in the company. Despite my little
experience with the program, with the advice of the tutor, I began
implementing everything already researched, combining colors, fonts and
ideas that had already been raised. There were several proposals with
different messages, both motivational, advertising and interactive.

The first design with a motivational message for Venezuela

It began by opening the program and setting the measurements 1200x1200

pixels and a resolution of 72, and since it is an image for the web it would be

These proposals were also taken to the business tutor so that he could see
what I had already outlined and give me his approval of the design. Much of it
was good and the few corrections that I was asked to make were made. I took

them for correction again and now they were ready for the final choice.

Week #7 from 06/18/2018 to 06/22/2018

In the seventh week, the final selection of the Graphic Arts proposals made
to the company for its social network Facebook was made, with a format of
1200x1200 pixels for the size of the publications, the colors to be used will be
Blue, gray and Yellow, where they were analyzed by the business tutor and
finally approved.

Week #8 from 06/25/2018 to 06/30/2018

In the eighth and final week of the internship, the final internship report was
printed and delivered. A design was made to make the company look
attractive to users, so that the company can provoke interest among
consumers, create a space in their minds, generate brand wealth and make it
easier for people to request its services.

Conclusion

The main conclusion is that this professional practice has really been a
great opportunity to learn a part that few students see and is of vital
importance, which is how these types of organizations work, the expenses
and the tasks that must be carried out so that their main activity can be carried
out in an optimal way, with the purpose of achieving the best results with the
strictly necessary effort.

The development of the Internet has brought about substantial changes in

the ways citizens relate to each other, both personally and professionally, and
even institutionally. These new platforms and the tools we can use to manage
them allow us to have direct and instant contact with users, allowing us to
establish communication that can be previously scheduled and that can be
reinforced at any time, in response to the demands of any audience.

The functions to be developed by a Higher University Technician in

Graphic Design are framed in a large number of activities, which in some way
allow to optimize the resources of existing designs and create new ones.

In this context and in relation to the objectives set, it can be said that the
internship process allows the acquisition of new knowledge, since the
demands of the activities carried out so require; demonstrating that the
primary goal is for the internship period to become a stage of mutual
cooperation between the intern and the company.

The level of knowledge acquired at this stage regarding Design is broader.

All activities assigned by the company were carried out, respecting at all times
the hierarchy and limits of the respective responsibilities.

The student's contribution to the company was based on the creation of

graphic arts for the social network Facebook, since it was a social network

that had been abandoned and was hardly used anymore, so they decided to
work with said social network again, wanting to have graphic arts to impact
and attract the public again. All objectives were met and gratifying results
were obtained, achieving interaction with users again.

Finally, in general terms, the internships have reaffirmed the ability to

adapt, skills and abilities as well as the acquisition of new knowledge in the
area of Graphic Design and it has become a new and rewarding experience
since it has given the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired
in the reality imposed by the field of work.

• It is recommended to update the page or profile daily, with at least one

publication and to keep the social network active.

• The company is encouraged to rotate interns through each department

in order to acquire knowledge in various areas.

• Continue using the social network Facebook as a means of advertising

for the company, providing expansion and good benefits for future
clients.

For IUTIRLA:

• Improve the design area for the use of different subjects that require a
laboratory for practice and teaching.

• Teach graphic design programs from the first semester as it would be

very useful for the student in their future internship.

• Further expand the content regarding Graphic Design programs.

For the intern:

• Don't just stick to the information you acquire at university, but rather

practice is much easier.
