Importance of FootballFootball

is perhaps the most popular sport worldwide today. It is important not only at a sporting level, as
a game and pastime, but also at a social level, as it unites social groups, clubs or even nations.
Finally, football is today one of the sports that generates the most money due to its popularity in
regions such as Europe, Latin America, Asia and, more recently, the United States. Thus, the World
Cup, like many other international and local tournaments, involves a significant movement of
capital invested by multinationals, individuals and organisations of all kinds.

Football is a relatively simple sport that is based on scoring goals against the opposing team.
Teams are made up of ten players and a goalkeeper, who is responsible for preventing points from
being scored against his own team. Football matches last 90 minutes with a 15-minute interval
dividing the half into two periods of 45 minutes each.

Nowadays, many people are not only watching football matches of all kinds and colours, made
easier by the large number of hours that they are broadcast on television, but they are also
increasingly practising it as an amateur in places specially designed for this purpose, such as clubs,
fields, sports centres and spaces, etc. In this way, people can feel much closer to and involved in
the practice of football than if they simply watched it on TV. Identification with a local team or
with the national team of the country to which one belongs are extremely interesting elements
that serve to understand the relevance that football has on a social level.

On the other hand, the importance of football also has an economic aspect. As stated before, this
sport is today responsible for the movement of an endless amount of capital that is placed in
clubs, teams, and individuals (whether coaches or players) and in this way a large number of
people make profits from the bets, investments, and capital movements that this sport can mean.
The World Cup typically generates millions of dollars in revenue in the countries where it is
broadcast.

Football is one of the most widely played sports in the world; it can be played by boys, girls, adults
and even the elderly as long as it is adapted to the demands and needs of each type of profile.

Practicing it is not only an entertaining activity, but also provides numerous health benefits at a
psychological, cardiovascular and muscular level.

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS:

 Mental development: Each sporting action that the player selects, whether correct or
incorrect, provides the footballer with feedback that allows him to acquire perceptual
experience. This experience will be what, at more advanced levels and in more
complicated situations, allows you to choose the technical-tactical actions appropriate to
each specific situation.

 Values in sports habits: The practice of football generates a series of values common to
most sports such as: the spirit of sacrifice and improvement, self-esteem, acceptance of
challenges, self-efficacy, socialization and the ability to work as a team.

Many of these values can then be applied to other areas of life such as work, family, personal
projects, etc.

Some experts in social behavior claim that playing football keeps children away from temptations
that are so common at that age, such as drugs, violence and alcohol.

OSTEO-MUSCULAR BENEFITS:

 Increase in muscle power.

 It increases reaction speed as well as motor coordination at the muscular level.

 Increases the level of bone density at the level of the femur and tibia.

 Improves motor skills involving the legs (jumping, running, etc.)

 It tones the muscles, especially those of the lower body and abdominal area, thanks to the
increase in testosterone levels it generates.

 Improves muscle vascularization.

 Playing football regularly reduces body fat percentage and increases body mass index.

CARDIOVASCULAR BENEFITS:

The cardiovascular benefits of football are the same as those provided by aerobic physical
activities.

 Aerobic exercise increases the size of the heart and improves its function. Each beat sends
a greater amount of blood to the muscles that are requested.
 Aerobic exercise lowers blood pressure.

 It allows to increase the surface area of oxygen diffusion from the lungs to the blood.

 Increases endurance level in aerobic and anaerobic races.

 It reduces the probability of suffering from cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes,

obesity, hypertension, etc.

In addition to all these benefits, football is a suitable sport for populations with intellectual
disabilities because:

 It involves all participants and keeps them entertained.

 Its practice and rules are simple and its teaching is easy.

 It improves quickly.

 Helps improve physical condition.

These are just some of the many benefits of playing football, but not everything is rosy; the same
areas that benefit from this sport can be damaged by stressful practice or poorly controlled high-
level competition.
