INTRODUCTION

This portfolio showcases my enriching field study experience at Magallanes National Vocational High
School. Over 240 hours , I immersed myself in the school's vibrant environment, honing my teaching
skills, fostering meaningful relationships, and gaining invaluable insights into effective education
practices. It will highlights key lesson- learned, best practices adopted , and valuable memories that
shaped my educational philosophy.

Participating in a field study provides a transformative opportunity for growth, propelling me beyond
my comfort zone and into the realm of experiential learning. This immersion will grant me firsthand
insight into the realities of secondary education, allowing me to discern effective teaching strategies and
collaborative techniques employed by seasoned educators. This field study will instill essential values
crucial to my success as an educator through collaboration, patience and perseverance. Embracing these
qualities will empower me to navigate complexities, overcome challenges and cultivate a supportive
learning environment.

The Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) mandate to implement field studies for educators is
grounded in key legislative frameworks. CHED Memo Order No. 30, s. 2004, specifically outlines
curriculum requirements for teacher education programs, emphasizing field study courses. Field studies
provide educators-in-training with invaluable practical experience, honing critical thinking, problem-
solving and collaboration skills. By integrating theory and practice, educators develop effectiveness in
real-world teaching environments. CHED ensures compliance with these policies and standards among
higher education institutions (HEIs) offering teacher education programs. By regulating field-based
observation and practice teaching, CHED promotes quality education, preparing educators for their
future roles.

Ultimately, this experience will shape my perspective, hone my skills and ignite my passion for
education. As I embark on this journey, I am eager to evolve into a compassionate, innovative and
effective educator, poised to inspire future generations.
FIELD STUDY AREAS OBSERVATION

The school is the area for learning. It is important to have a place that is conducive where teacher and
learning can do so that the knowledge will foster to everyone. The Magallanes National Vocational
Highschool is a school caters the needs of students especially in the field of vocational courses, which
enhancing skills of students in various aspects of technical skills.

As I enter a gate , I can nearly see an three building , the two buildings were two-storeys and other
one is three-storeys. Guards are very polite and approachable and will greet you nicely. This school has
library which has a lot of books for different subjects and different grade levels. A place you can study
and do your work peacefully. Miss librarian is very humble and talk kindly , she is willing to help you find
your books that you needed. Library is also a counseling room that can use to settle many
misunderstandings or concerns inside the campus. This school also offers computers for student
unfortunately some of these are cannot be used. It is estimated 20 computers in the computer lab.
Office of the principal and other staffs of the school is just in next door. It is air conditioned, have
computers, digital devices other things can be used in doing works. Our principal and other staffs in
school are very kind and humble. They are willing to help you , everytime you needed something. They
can explain to you the proper guidelines in school politely.

This school offers technical vocational education. It included Cosmetology, Food Technology,
Automotive, Electricity and Installation Maintenance, Furniture and Cabinet Making and Welding. When
I was in junior highschool, I am a cosmetology student and I was shock when I was visited my alma
mater that our Cosmetology room replaced by automotive. It was transferred at the back of TESDA
room and you cannot see it easily. There, you can get a free beauty treatment and care from students
doing practicum. Their room is very wide and have a good ambiance, the floor is very clean, chairs and
tables are well-organized and air is very comforting that relieves your stress . I got my free manicure
here twice and students are very generous and skillful.

There are two facilities for Food Technology, for junior and senior highschool. They have complete
tools and equipments for cooking and doing a proper precautions of a teacher for their safety especially
in using oven and stove. Students are wearing PPE for hygiene purposes and making sure that their unif
are dirt-free. I got a free baked cakes here when I visited and I was so happy that time. In automotive
classroom, almost 15 students are enrolled and all boys. There are two cars parked in and outside
classroom. It also have television that they can use as guide like videos and lectures for their activities.
They handled it safely by the help of their facilitator. In furniture and cabinet making classroom, you can
see a different kinds of woods, materials and equipments for making a different furnitures. Here you can
help them to accomplish their task by giving them a money to buy equipments then after the output will
be yours , the students just only want to lessen their finances for buying things. It is also a great way to
help students and have a quality furnitures that you can use at home. The two EIM room are quite
distanced, one for junior high school and another one for seniors. You can see a students working for
their practicum using safety gears like gloves and helmet . They connect different wires carefully. You
can see here a variety of wires , equipment and skillful students. Welding facility is quiet far from other
rooms, a wide place to make an output it is safe place for welder to create an activity because there is
no student passing by. They also used face shield, helmet and gloves for their protection. Their works
are satisfying and have a clean outcomes.

After all, my favorite place a faculty room where I relax after all classes and bond with other teachers.
It has comfort room , tables , chairs and also sofa. It also has a printer that can be used to print materials
and works. The one that make it cozy is the aircon, I love to visit it because of comforting ambiance and
very kind teachers. Comfort rooms are available in campus, some of classroom have this but some did
not function. Some have dirty floor and wall because of vandalism and unhygienic practices of students.
Water supply in this school is very slow that can lead to uncomfortable to the user of comfort room.
Lastly, school canteen is an area where I can buy breakfast, lunch and snacks. They offer healthy snacks
including kakanin that can boost students energy. They are also selling bottled water, softdrinks and
junkfoods . School supplies and accesories are also available here. It has three long tables for people
want to eat here and few chairs. It is crowded when recess so you have to buy your snacks as soon as
possible.

I estimated 30 classrooms in campus overall, including science laboratory, academic room, technical
vocational facilities and office. All academic rooms have estimated 40-50 armchairs , each room has
television that can be used during class discussion. Display board are also presented showing different
informations like student profiles, classroom cleaners, class schedule, events to be attended ,
announcement, classroom management and guidelines, and instructional materials . All rooms have
ventilation, estimated 3-4 electric fans each room.

Students of MNVHS have different attitude , behavior and learning styles . I understand it because a
hundred of students you can meet a hundred personality also. Some are fast and slow learners but one
comes on my mind that they willing to learn because they effort to go back and forth to school just to
attend a class. They attending different events here and actively participating in school activities
especially in intramurals and organization.

NIHIL TIMENDUM EST

(Reflective Journal)
It's November, and social media is abuzz with posts about the upcoming theater play, "Nihil
Timendum Est." Initially, I wasn't interested and scrolled past the updates. When friends invited me, I
declined, citing my busy schedule. However, when our instructor, Madame Tamboong, recommended
attending as a portfolio requirement, I promptly bought a ticket, accompanied by a friend. Considering
it's my final year in college, I figured experiencing a play would be worthwhile. On November 8th, I
headed from school to CAREE Hotel, purchased a ticket for the 1 p.m. show, and entered the theater.

The play performed by Tabsing Kolektib and Rafael Gerona de Castro Colleges students immersed me
to the issue of our society. The intimate setting amplified the actors' natural emotions, crafting an
unforgettable experience. This powerful play exposes toxic fraternity cultures, illuminating devastating
consequences on victims and families. The exceptional local theater production boasts heartfelt
performances and meticulous artistic direction. Transcending entertainment, it prompts introspection
on societal violence and hidden injustices. By highlighting hazing's cyclical nature, the play emphasizes
the urgency for conscious intervention. The performance underscores crucial truths. People with degree
don't guarantee trustworthiness, and kindness should be universally valued. True unity isn't defined by
endurance of pain or injustice but by informed choices. We must recognize potential threats, even
among seemingly trustworthy individuals. The play serves as a stark reminder of hazing's destructive
impact on Filipino communities, claiming countless lives. Effective leadership prioritizes safety, not
danger. By acknowledging these issues, we can foster empathy, responsibility and unity.

The true essence of unity isn't measured by endurance of pain or injustice. Rather, it's about
conscious choices and responsible decisions. Be cautious of those around you, as perceived trust can be
deceiving. This compelling production urges us to reevaluate our values and confront systemic violence.
Say no to hazing!

BELIEFS ON TEACHING AND LEARNING

My all-time favorite quote is: Education is the key to success. This journey may lead to stress,
pressure, and hard times, but with resilience and strength in our hearts, we can achieve a beautiful
outcome. It is like a roller-coaster ride that builds good memories and experiences through laughter,
sadness, fear, and excitement. But above all, amidst the adversities in our lives, we should strive to
make a change within ourselves and grab the opportunity for a quality education.

I grew up in a family that was not rich. This opened my eyes to the importance of choosing the right
path, inspired by the perspectives of my mother and father. My mother is an elementary teacher, while
my father is a tricycle driver. Both came from poor families but had different strategies in life. My
mother chose to become a breadwinner at a young age and worked hard to sustain her education.
Fortunately, she graduated. Meanwhile, my father came from a broken family. As a breadwinner for his
younger siblings, he worked hard to provide for their daily needs but only managed to finish 2nd-year
high school. Between these two perspectives, I often wonder: which path should I follow despite life's
adversities—my mother's or my father's?

I cannot believe that I am now in my fourth and final year of college, hoping to graduate soon. This is
a great opportunity for me to experience education because many people lack such opportunities. I
always remind myself that, even though Education is not my dream course, I can still help others acquire
the knowledge they deserve. If given a chance to give back to my community, I would offer free
mentorship and volunteerism to underserved areas. Through these actions, I could apply what I’ve
learned to help those who need it most.

Through education, I acquired skills to navigate life's complexities, fostered critical thinking and
effective communication. I developed empathy, understanding diverse perspectives and cultures.
Education unlocked opportunities, bridging socio-economic gaps and breaking cycles of poverty. It
instilled resilience, adaptability and a growth mindset. Beyond personal gains, education enriches
communities. An educated populace fosters innovation, economic growth and social cohesion. It
cultivates leaders, thinkers and problem-solvers. By prioritizing education, we pave the path to a
brighter, more equitable future.

I want to create an impact and bring change to our community by building opportunities and turning
dreams into reality. Nothing is impossible through education—it helps us achieve our desired jobs and
become the people we aspire to be. After I graduate, even if I do not pursue teaching and instead follow
my dream of becoming a flight attendant, I will continue to inspire the youth to aim toward one goal: a
better life.
REFLECTION OF MY EXPERIENCES IN FIELD STUDY

My field study experience as a student-teacher at Magallanes National Vocational High School was an
eye-opening and transformative journey. It marked a significant shift in my role within the school
community, as I transitioned from being a regular student to taking on the responsibilities of a student-
teacher. This change required me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace a new level of
accountability. Establishing strong relationships with the school staff, my peers, the principal, and my
kind cooperating teacher was an essential part of this experience. Each interaction taught me valuable
lessons in communication, collaboration, and professionalism. I also encountered a wide variety of
learner personalities, which deepened my understanding of the complexities of teaching and the
importance of tailoring my approach to meet diverse needs.

One of the greatest challenges I faced was balancing my personal life and academic responsibilities.
Adapting to the demands of teaching required careful time management, especially during periods
when unforeseen events disrupted the regular school schedule, such as typhoons and holidays. These
interruptions posed unique challenges in maintaining the momentum of lessons and ensuring learners
stayed engaged. Despite these struggles, I found joy and fulfillment in actively participating in school
activities like intramurals, Teachers’ Day, United Nations celebrations, and parades. These events not
only allowed me to build stronger connections with learners but also gave me opportunities to
experience the vibrant culture and traditions of the school. Each celebration reminded me of the
importance of fostering a sense of community and creating enjoyable experiences for both students and
teachers.

Interacting with Grade 9 and Grade 10 students was a particularly meaningful aspect of my journey. I
took pride in building positive relationships with them, which helped create a supportive and engaging
learning environment. Through teaching, I developed a deeper understanding of their individual
strengths, challenges, and aspirations. These interactions strengthened my passion for the teaching
profession and solidified my desire to make a positive impact on learners’ lives. Although my time as a
student-teacher came with its share of struggles, it also brought immense growth and fulfillment. This
experience has prepared me to face future challenges with confidence, and I am truly grateful for the
opportunity to grow personally and professionally within this supportive school community.
