Q1: Define Photoshop.
Ans: Adobe Photoshop is an image editing software developed by a
leading software company named Adobe Corp.
The software Photoshop was created and designed by Thomas Knoll in
1987.

manipulate images ?
Ans: i. Modifying of Images
ii.Retouching Images or Photographs
iii. Creating Graphics
Q3: What is the use of Marquee tool? Explain it.
Ans: The Marquee Tools helps us to select a part or parts, of an
image, when dragged over them. The portion over which it is
dragged gets selected.
There are different Marquee tools based on the shape are:
Rectangular Marquee Tool,
Ellipitical Marquee Tool,
Single Row Marquee Tool,
Single Column Marquee Tool.
Q4: What is Magic Wand tool ? Write the steps to use this tool.
Ans: It allows us to select parts of an image based on colour
similarities.
It selects all the pixels of a particular colour or colour range. It is most
useful for selecting an area of similar colours surrounded by area of very
different colours.
Differentiate between:
1. Sharpen and Smudge tool.
The Sharpen tool helps to make softer areas sharper.
The Smudge tool helps to spread colours across the image like
a smudge effect.
2. Crop and Move Tool:
The Crop tool is used to discard the portion of an image that is
not required.
The Move tool is used to drag a selected part of the image to a
new location in the image.
3. Polygonal lasso and Magnetic lasso:
Polygonal lasso: it has both straight and curved lines. This
alsoallows us to specify the key nodes.
Magnetic lasso: It attracts the outline of image and specifies
the key nodes automatically. We can also specify our own key
nodes.
Measuring Tools in Photoshop:
1. Eyedropper Tool
2. Color Sampler Tool
3. Ruler Tool
4. Note Tool
5. Count Tool
Eyedropper Tool: We can use this tool for matching a color. Just
click with the eyedropper tool somewhere in your Photoshop file,
and drag the cursor off to sample colors from anything visible on
your screen. Your color will be selected.
Color Sampler Tool: This Tool can used to match colors in an
image, like the Eyedropper tool, but its values can be stored in the
Info palette for future reference. The keyboard shortcut key for this
tool is " I " .
It's quite helpful when adjusting an image's colors.. It works
differently from the Eyedropper tool in that you use it to click and
place sample points in an image. You can place up to four sample
points per image.
Ruler Tool: This tool is very useful for us. Through this tool we
can adjust an image in the actual area. The Ruler tool calculates the
distance between any two points in the workspace. The shortcut key
of the Ruler Tool is "Ctrl+R".
Note Tool: The Note Tool is a Toolbox. Through the Note Tool we
can attach little notes to your .psd files.
There are two versions of Photoshop Notes: text and audio.
Count Tools: When we click on an image after selecting the Count
tool, a click number is displayed on the item. Count numbers are
saved when you save a file
Retouching Tools in Photoshop:
1. Healing Brush Tool: The healing brush allows you to correct the
blemishes, imperfections & uneven skin. Healing brush tool take
sampled pixels from the image.
2. Spot Healing Tool: This works exactly the same as a healing brush
just in this tool you don’t have to take the sample pixels. You don’t
have to provide a sample to it, it automatically matches the sample
from the surrounding pixels.
3. Red Eye: Red eye can occur in your photos due to the camera flash.
You can remove the red-eye in the image using the red-eye tool in
the palette.
4. Patch Tool: You can edit or repair the selected areas using Patch
tool. It also matches the shading and texture of sampled pixels.
5. Content Aware Tool: Content aware tool has got even better in the
new version of Photoshop. This tool just like the patch tool allows
you to recreate the images. This helps you to adjust the image.
6. Clone Tool: With clone tool you can create copy of the selected
area and then can paste it to either on the same image on to the other
image. It creates a duplicate of the selected image.
7. Dodge & Burn Tool: The Dodge and Burn tool allow us to make
the image pixels light or dark. The more you paint over the image
the more it gets lighter (if using dodge tool) or darker (if using the
burn tool).
8. Blur & Sharpen Tool: Blur and Sharpen Tools are also used to
correct the images. With blur you can bring the main object into
focus by making the background blur, whereas the sharpen tool is
used to increase the contrast of the pixels.
