History of rajasthan –
The Historical Rajasthan, The Land of the
Kings, battle-scarred forts, palaces of
breathtaking grandeur and whimsical
charm, riotous colors and even its romantic
sense of pride and honor.
The state is diagonally divided into the hilly
and rugged south-eastern region and the
barren north-western That Desert, which
extends across the border into Pakistan.
There are plenty of historic cities, incredible
fortresses awash with legends, and rare
gems of impressionistic beauty, such as
Udaipur. There are also a number of centers
that attract travelers from far and wide,
such as Pushkar with its holy lake, and the
desert city of Jaisalmer, which resembles a
fantasy from "The Thousand & One Nights".
Rajasthan is one of India's prime tourist
destinations. Nobody leaves here without
priceless memories.
Rajasthan was inhabited long before 2500
BC and the Indus Valley Civilisation had its
foundation here in north Rajasthan itself.
The Bhil and the Mina tribes were the
earliest dwellers of this area.

Around 1400 BC the Aryans paid a visit and

settled forever in the area. The local
population was pushed down south and
towards the east. Afghans, Turks, Persians
and Mughals followed in mixing their blood,
first in war then in peace, with the existing
original inhabitants. This blending gave the
martial lineage to the Rajputs.
From the times of Harsha (7 AD) to the
founding of the Delhi Sultanate, Rajasthan
was fragmented in competing kingdoms.
Perhaps it was during this era by their
influence through wealth and power the
Rajputs persuaded the Brahmins to link
them with the sun, the moon and the fire
god.
With the passage of time they were divided
into 36 royal clans. Rajasthan finally settled
for a long and lasting reign under the
colourful and vibrant Rajputs. and it's a
surprise that they lasted as long as they did.
Considering that they were at a constant
state of aggression; if not with a foe, then
with each other. After the 14th century their
influence declined in the area.

Culture –
The culture of Rajasthan is rich and varied, with
the people of the state having a strong sense of
history and tradition. The land of Kings is a
vibrant and colorful state where tradition and
culture go hand in hand.
The culture is a rich tapestry of traditions,
customs, and beliefs. There is much to explore,
from colorful festivals to delicious food.
Some Elements of the Culture of Rajasthan

Folk Music and Dance

The perfect place to tap your toes to some LIVE folk music. This music is
a blend of various regions of Rajasthani Culture, and it’s sure to get you to
groove.
The music is mostly based on folk traditions and is lively and vibrant,
often accompanied by traditional instruments like the dholak, shehnai,
and sarangi.
The most popular folk dances are the Ghoomar dance, which the women
perform, and the Kalbeliya dance, which is performed by the Kalbeliya
community.
Traditional Arts and Crafts

Rajasthani culture is also very famous for its

traditional arts and crafts. Rajasthan’s most
popular arts and crafts include block printing, tie
and dye, marble inlay work, and miniature
painting.
The Famous Camel festival

The Camel festival is one of the most

famous festivals in India and an integral part
of Rajasthani Culture. Every year, camel
owners and traders come from all over the
state to compete with other camel owners.
The festival is also a time for camel racing,
beauty contests, and other festivities. It is
held annually in Pushkar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer,
and other regions and celebrates everything
camel. From camel races to beauty
pageants, there’s something for everyone at
this one-of-a-kind event.
Architectural Heritage

The architectural heritage is perhaps the

most iconic element of the Culture of
Rajasthan. The state is home to some of
India’s most impressive forts and palaces,
built by the Rajput rulers who once ruled the
region.
The intricate designs and beautiful carvings
on these buildings testify to the skill of the
Rajasthani craftsmen.Some of the iconic
architectural heritages in Rajasthan are the
Umaid Bhavan palace, DilwaraTemples,
Nakoda Jain Temple, etc.
Cuisine

Rajasthan is known for its fiery cuisine,

which is a delicious delight for those
who enjoy spice in their food. If you
would like to taste the authentic cuisine
of Rajasthan, head over to your marwadi
friend house and enjoy the sumptuous
local delicacies. You won’t be
disappointed!
Delicious Cuisines such as Dal Bati
churma, Ghewar, and kachori are some
of the most famous cuisines you can eat
at your friend house . Rajasthani dishes
are often served with a dollop of ghee or
yoghurt, which helps balance the heat.

Rajasthani Culture Traditional Dress

Rajasthan is also home to vibrant

textiles. The state is famous for its
colorful hand-woven fabrics, which are
used to make a variety of traditional
garments.
Rajasthani women and men are well-
known for their intricate embroidery
work and wear “Odhani,” while men
wear Pagaris or Saffah, Kurta, and Dhoti.

The Language of Rajasthan

In Rajasthan, language is like a badge of

honor. It’s a way to show off your roots
and where you come from.
The state is like a big melting pot of
different dialects – Marwari, Malvi,
Jaipuri, Mevati, Dhundari, and more. It
can be tough to keep track of all the
different terms and phrases, but that’s
part of the fun!
Wildlife –
Rajasthan is known as a hot and arid
destination which is also home to the famed
Thar Desert. However, this India’s largest
state is still quite rich in wildlife and is
blessed with a variety of vegetation and a
plethora of animal and bird species. In fact,
Rajasthan is one of the top destinations in
India for tiger sighting and birdwatching.
The state has semi green forests;
mountainous terrains; dry grasslands; dry
deciduous thorn forest and even wetlands
for a biodiverse wildlife to thrive. There are
about 480 species of plants and trees that
can be found in Rajasthan. It is also home to
a number of national parks, wildlife
sanctuaries, and bird sanctuaries that make
it to the top wildlife holiday destinations in
India.
For tiger sighting, Rajasthan offers
Ranthambore National and Sariska National
Park, while for birdwatching, UNESCO World
Heritage Site Keoladeo National park along
with Tal Chhapar, Van Vihar, and Jorbeed
make for the best destinations in the state.
The Desert National Park is home to the
critically endangered species of Great Indian
Bustard. Apart from these, Rajasthan is
home to a large number of leopards,
blackbuck, great Indian spotted eagle, and
marsh crocodiles.
