AVOID BULLYING, STRENGTHEN THE “UKHUWAH ISLAMIYAH”
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Good afternoon, everyone. First of all, I would like to thank God Allah Subhanahu
Wata’ala. who has been giving us blessings and mercies so we can attend today's in good
condition.
I also want to thank to master of ceremony for giving me the opportunity to deliver the
speech. My name is Adelmo Iswara. I am from Ibnu Taimiyah Boarding School Cijeruk.
I’m going to level with you, I Absolutely hate bullying, and I will do anything I can do
to stop it. A lot of people have the same view as me on this topic, because some of them
might have experienced that kind of stuff. I, myself have too. But some people view it
differently.
Ladies and gentlemen, bullying may seem like a small problem for some people. Most
people may not realize that the damage caused by bullying can be so serious. It can be as
serious as "death" in extreme cases.
If you think that bullying is not a serious matter to deal with just because it merely hurts
"feelings" then I have to tell you that you are completely wrong. This "merely hurt your
feelings" thing can be the beginning of various worse scenarios such as physical assault,
suicide, or any other kinds of violent acts carried out in the name of revenge.
As I said just now that bullying is not a serious problem for some people, just because we
simply don't see the damage. But the thing is, based on my experience as a student, I learned
that the effect of bullying can stay undetected for years.
During this time, the effect of bullying keeps corrupting the soul of the victim. They may hold
it inside as a grudge, or they may also develop trauma which may result in self-withdrawal.
I believe that this is something that we don't want to happen to us. That is why we have to act
right now to stop it, and I mean all of us with no exception.
Can you imagine, being a little kid, walking to the big school gates with full
excitement, and no awareness on what’s about to happen. Maybe in the first days of school,
you are just happy, excited to meet new people and friends, with no awareness on what’s
about to happen. You might start to get uncomfortable with a few people in your class, maybe
thinking “these people don’t really follow the rules of Islam, do they?” and maybe you start to
avoid them, they find it strange, and of course, start to not like you back.
You might feel kind of sad, seeing your old friends start to get naughtier and naughtier
each day, but you also feel it’s the right thing to do, because the prophet Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam once said:
اْلَم ْر ُء َعَلى ِديِن َخ ِليِلِه َف ْلَيْنُظْر َأَحُدُكْم َمْن ُيَخاِلُل
“A person will match the habits of his best friend. Therefore, pay attention to who will
become your best friend”.
They might start to mock you for your behavior, because they don’t really know
sunnah, and some even more nasty people are the ones who mock your race, whether it is
your skin color, or where you are from.
Because of that reason, we have to strengthen what’s called “Ukhuwah Islamiyah” it is
a brotherhood between fellow Muslims throughout the world, without seeing any differences,
be it skin color, language, ethnicity, nation and nationality. Because it is a way to create
harmony, and strengthen the unity of the Muslim community. Of course we all don’t want to
be seen differently than each other, none of us want to get called by our flaws, our skin color,
or anything that might offend us. Because the prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa
Sallam once said:
َأ
اْلُمْس ِلُم ُخو اْلُمْس ِلِم اَل َيْظِلُمُه َو اَل ُيْس ِلُمُه
A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He does not oppress him or betray him.
Now please to all the teachers, the judges, and all the audience to stand up with me, and help me
start to avoiding bullying, and strengthen the “Ukhuwah Islamiyah.
Thank you for listening.
Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu.
