Sudan

Elections in South Sudan are set for late 2024, necessitating a legislative framework and institutional support, with the UN providing technical assistance until April 2025 to help stabilize the country. The ongoing civil war has led to severe economic and humanitarian crises, exacerbated by fluctuating oil prices and internal conflicts. The government is committed to facilitating humanitarian aid and calls for UN intervention to halt violence against civilians while seeking international support for debt relief and addressing regional issues like arms proliferation.

Sudan and UN note MUN

Elections are scheduled for South Sudan at the end of 2024, and that requires
requires, in particular, a legislative and constitutional framework, the establishment
of institutions and the allocation of budgetary resources.

The United Nations has been mandated to provide technical assistance to

complement the efforts of the authorities and United Nations Mission in South Sudan
(UNMISS) is till 30 April 2025. The aim is to de-esclate the civil war and build a
robust and peaceful government.

As of now our country is rich in oil but fluctuations in global oil prices significantly
impact its economic stability. Moreover, a decline in oil production due to various
factors including internal conflicts, lack of infrastructure, and technical challenges
has also hindered our progress. Reulsts are an ongoing civil war, High Inflation,
Humanitarian Crisis, Foreign Aid Dependency, Corruption and Governance Issues
and practically zero Infrastructure Development. These issues need to be addressed
through UNMISS.
We appreciate the US stand on SS that states security and intercommunal violence
are great concerns eg in Warrap State and Abyei, which resulted in the reported
killing of 80 civilians and two UNISFA peacekeepers which is currently under
investigation. Their concern is appreciated over the refugee situation, with 500,000
having fled.

The government renews its pledges and commitments to facilitate the access of
humanitarian aid to those affected and in need throughout the country through ports,
crossings and airports within national borders, eg opening use of the Tina crossing
from Chad to El Fasher, after agreeing on the technical aspects between the
Sudanese and Chadian governments and in accordance with Security Council
Resolution 1591*.

Signing of the Juba Peace Agreement was a significant milestone.

We call on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to pressure both sides of
the war to stop the war and stop the massacres and violations against defenceless
civilians immediately.

we have provided all the necessary support to the AU-IGAD-UNITAMS Trilateral

Mechanism, and signed the Juba Peace Agreement .
Our intervention has improved security, development, and peace in Africa, Somalia,
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Chad among other countries like
Libya
We are sparing no efforts to achieve our sustainable development goals
The issue of Sudan’s external debt needs attention and international community
should honour their commitments “made in the Paris and Berlin meetings”, and that
we have “completed all the legislation required to benefit from Debt relief
Problems caused by droughts and floods in the region, the “proliferation of small
arms and light weapons”, is an urgent issue
At the recent UN discussions on extention of UNMISS, we note in particular the two
abstentions - While Chinas statement that “Penholdership is not a privilege but a
responsibility.” Is true, its important to note that external aid will be important.
Russias absention from the vote and giving more credit to the Sudanese govenmnet
is also noted.
