Machine Programming Instructions


ADE Boom Control
4150568

Hardware/Software Requirements:
1) PC or laptop computer – (minimum requirements) Windows-98SE, Pentium-II,
2) 2901443 - JLG Handheld Analyzer
3) 1060629 - JLG Interface Cable
4) Software (as specified below)

Special Conditions/Tools Required:


USB to Serial port adapter cables can be used in conjunction with the JLG Interface Cable (1060629). Its use is
required if your computer does not have a serial port. An equivalent adapter is available at most electronic stores.

Record Machine Setup and Personality Settings


Before downloading your new software, connect the JLG Handheld Analyzer (2901443) to your machine and
record the settings in the MACHINE SETUP and PERSONALITIES sub-menus.

Procedure for Platform Modules on 800S:


The following steps will instruct you on how to install new software on your JLG ADE Control System.

1) Connect the JLG Interface Cable (1060629) to your computer’s Serial port or USB port, depending on which
connections your computer offers. (Note some computers have both ports.)
2) Connect the other end of the JLG Interface Cable to the JLG Analyzer port on the platform control box.
3) Turn the key switch at the ground station to the “Platform Control Position” and pull the ground station E-Stop
out.
4) Pull the platform control box E-Stop out. The ADE Control System will now be powered ON.
5) If you are going to program one of these Platform Modules: 1600377
Use this Tool ------> 4170051vPx_x.exe
6) Press the Program Platform Module button.
7) If a connection is established, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing software with the new
Platform Module with Leveling software. Verify the Software Version to be downloaded is correct, and then
press the YES button.
8) Monitor the progress bar at the bottom of the Easy Downloader application. It will indicate when the
download is complete.
9) Once downloading is complete, press the E-Stop in and remove your connection to the JLG Analyzer port.

Procedure for Platform Modules on 400S, 450A, 510A, 600S, 600SC, 600A, 601S, 740A, & 800A:
The following steps will instruct you on how to install new software on your JLG ADE Control System.

1) Connect the JLG Interface Cable (1060629) to your computer’s Serial port or USB port, depending on
which connections your computer offers. (Note some computers have both ports.)
2) Connect the other end of the JLG Interface Cable to the JLG Analyzer port on the platform control box.
3) Turn the key switch at the ground station to the “Platform Control Position” and pull the ground station E-
Stop out.
4) Pull the platform control box E-Stop out. The ADE Control System will now be powered ON.
5) If you are going to program one of these Platform Modules: 1600375, or 1600376
Use this Tool ------> 4170050vPx_x.exe
6) Press the Program Platform Module button.
7) If a connection is established, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing software with the new
Platform Module software. Verify the Software Version to be downloaded is correct, and then press the YES
button.
8) Monitor the progress bar at the bottom of the Easy Downloader application. It will indicate when the

Procedure for Ground Modules on 400S, 450A, 510A, 600S, 600A, 601S, 740A, 800A & 800S:
The following steps will instruct you on how to install new software on your JLG ADE Control System.

1) Connect the JLG Interface Cable (1060629) to your computer’s Serial port or USB port, depending on which
connections your computer offers. (Note some computers have both ports.)
2) Connect the other end of the JLG Interface Cable to the JLG Analyzer port in the ground control box.
3) Turn the key switch at the ground station to the “Ground Control Position” and pull the ground station E-Stop
out.
4) The ADE Control System will now be powered ON.
5) If you are going to program Ground Module: 1600364 or 1600411
Use this Tool ------> 4170064vPx_x.exe
6) Press the Program Ground Module button.
7) If a connection is established, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing software with the new
Ground Module software. Verify the Software Version to be downloaded is correct, and then press the YES
button.
8) Monitor the progress bar at the bottom of the Easy Downloader application. It will indicate when the
download is complete.
9) Once downloading is complete, press the E-Stop in and remove your connection to the JLG Analyzer port.
10) After your JLG Interface cable has been removed, connect your JLG Handheld Analyzer and pull the ground
station E-Stop out.
11) On the JLG Handheld Analyzer, arrow key over to the DIAGNOSTICS menu and press the ENTER button on
the Analyzer. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the sub-menus until the VERSIONS sub-menu appears
on the Analyzer and press the ENTER button. Now you can verify all the modules software versions.
12) Press the ESCAPE button on the Analyzer until you return to the main menu. Arrow key over to LEVEL
ACCESS 2 menu screen and press the ENTER button on the Analyzer. Enter the password for LEVEL
ACCESS 1 permission.
13) Once in LEVEL ACCESS 1, proceed to the MACHINE SETUP menu selection and press the ENTER button.
Under the sub-menu selections MODEL NUMBER and ENGINE, press the UP arrow key and then the
DOWN arrow key to toggle the selection. This defaults the ADE Boom Control System.
14) With JLG Handheld Analyzer still connected, cycle power OFF then ON with the ground station E-Stop.
15) Re-access LEVEL ACCESS 1 and enter the MACHINE SETUP and PERSONALITIES settings recorded
before programming occurred. (Note if your machine has a Deutz Diesel engine with glow plugs, set the
GLOW PLUG sub-menu selection to 1=GLOW W/O LOCK.)1

Procedure Notes:
Make sure you upgrade the Ground & Platform modules when doing this update. Non-compliance may force the
ADE Boom Control System to restrict all operation from the platform station.

If when attempting to download you receive a “Could not establish communications!” message, you may have one
of the following problems:
• The JLG Interface cable may have a loose connection.
• The ADE Boom Control System may not be powered ON.
• The wrong COM port selected. COM 1 may not be your serial port on your computer.
• The serial COM port may be busy. You may have another piece of software actively assigned to your serial
COM port.
