Finishing

Cut off the yarn, leaving an 77⁄8” (20 cm) tail. With tapestry needle thread it through remaining sts and
fasten to inside of crown. With the same yarn, sew seam from top up to beginning of Icord borders
using mattress stitch. Wave in ends.

Ear Tassels
(repeat once for each side)

Cut 5 strips of yarn 5,5” (14 cm) in length. Hold the 5

pieces of cut yarn together and fold them in half to form a
loop. Insert a crochet hook in the top corner of the owl’s
ear and grab the loop, ensuring that all strands are
together and securely on the hook. Pull the loop about
half way. Ensure that all of the yarn strands are together
and the loop is welldefined. Keep the crochet hook in the
loop. Push the crochet hook further through the loop and
grab all of the strand ends. Pull the ends through the
loop, creating a slip knot. Use the crochet hook and your
hand to pull the slip knot tight in the corner. Adjust the
knot as needed to make it tight and straight. Cut the
tassel shorter, if necessary. Wave in ends.
Front corner's tassels (make two)

You will need a rectangular piece of cardboard 3¼" (8 cm) long. Place a double piece of yarn along the
top edge of cardboard and loosely wind the yarn around both of pieces of yarn and cardboard. Then
knot the top threads tight together, and cut the bunch of yarn at the bottom edge. Wrap yarn tight
around the bunch of yarn around ½" (1.5 cm) below the top edge, pull the ends through the wrapped
edge, and cut them off. Finally, trim the bottom edge of the tassel to a uniform lenght.

Attach tassels to the front corners, wave in ends and wet block the hat. Sew on buttons as pictured
and enjoy!
