▪ Fair Treatment:
At no time at Shah Mulewa & Associates, did I notice any discrimination on any basis.
The work environment was fair and just, as anyone would expect from a company of such
stature and size. However, at one point I did feel the distance caused between the
colleagues due to peer causes which was gradually resolved over time.
▪ Work:
Even though I had joined Shah Mulewa & Associates. at the peak season during which the
workload is at its highest, the scheduling and quality of work at Shah Mulewa & Associates.
was always top notch. I would like to give special credit to my superiors for planning my work
in such a manner that I was never felt overburdened despite ofmultiple assignments,
                                                  6
To add to great scheduling, I always received progressively challenging work. I never
thought or experienced that the assignment would not lead to my growth and development,
which is another nod to the level of confidence my superiors had in me. This is in special
focus after listening to what some of myfriends and classmates have had to undergo in their
      respective internships.
▪ Remuneration:
Even as an intern, I was compensated. When I compared my remuneration to those of my
classmates and friends in the same field, I realized that Shah Mulewa & Associates. was paying
an appropriate remuneration for my qualifications and experience, along with incentives in
kind. This thoroughly motivated me and inspired me to give back to the company who had so
much belief and confidence in me.
▪ Politics:
I had nightmare stories from family and friends, that the most challenging part of any
organisation is politics. It is not work or time, but the clash of egos and goals that lead to
the most friction in the workplace. Although it was present in Shah Mulewa & Associates,
I did not think it was very prevalent in the any department for that matter. In fact, the entire
office is a tight-knit group, with frequent jokes and loud laughter. I loved being part of the
jovial atmosphere where there were no inhibitions, and everyone was free to express their
thoughts and feelings. It felt like home and being around family. Credits to the trips
organized by the firm of which I had the opportunity to be a part of after the workload was
over in the month of February.
                                                 7
2.4 WHY I CHOSE SHAH MULEWA & ASSOCIATES
Since Shah Mulewa & Associates is a small and medium sized firm, there is little to no brand
awareness among the public, and I was no exception. I discovered it through one of my friends
who was already working in the same firm.
What caught my attention is that a firm called close by to my house. This encouraged me to know
more about the firm. I came to know that there are small firms as well in the industry other than
the Big Four's that has such a good base. The perquisite to this was that was just a 15 minutes’
walk from my house in Worli.
It was really fascinating for me to learn about Shah Mulewa & Associates as all I had been hearing
for the past two years was about the Big Four's. As a Chartered Accountancy student, we are
always looking for a good base firm that gives us an insight into all industries and sectors that a
CA works in. In such a case the probability of getting into those firms is only about 20%.
Therefore, this firm came as a boon to me. Some people have an ideology that entering a Big 4 is
the only way to strategise a path of their career, some believe that industries give a better
knowledge base as the entire work is to be done from scratch. However, some say that SME firms
give better opportunities.
Whenever someone mentioned the CA industry, all that came to mind was auditing financial
statements, the government, and taxes of various institutions. I had never been exposed to the
information that CA's also work in other industries, other than just accounting and auditing. The
wide-spectrum that CA's are exposed to while performing their duties and the sense of
responsibility that they have on behalf of the shareholders, banks, governments, investors and
stakeholders on various fronts like legal, financial, and business but also give a true and fair view
of their financial statements on the basis of which loans arecleared by financial institutions.
When I researched a bit further, it was akin to going down a rabbit hole. I also realized how highly
leveraged their work was in terms of impact. Learning about the industry was very exciting. I went
ahead looking for career opportunities in this sector, which suitably leads us to the next part, the
application, interview, and onboarding process.

                                                17
             4. CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED DURING INTERNSHIPS
Identifying and addressing challenges encountered during internships is crucial for optimizing the
internship experience and ensuring the professional development of interns. Some common
challenges faced by interns in CA firms like Shah Mulewa and Associates may include:
1.Workload Management:
Interns often face the challenge of managing heavy workloads, particularly during peak periods
such as tax season or audit engagements. Balancing multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining
accuracy and quality can be demanding and may lead to stress and burnout.
3.Interpersonal Communication:
Each CA firm has its unique organizational culture, norms, and procedures. Interns may find it
challenging to adapt to the culture, including its work style, values, and expectations.
Understanding and aligning with the firm's culture are essential for integration and success within
the organization.
                                                18

Most of utilize TALLY ERP 9 for recording all their financial transactions as it is more
accurate and there is low risk of data loss. So, it is required skills for employees to have
knowledge regarding tally. As for interns like us, who will be doing work for short period,
it’s kind of difficult to fully understand tally. Yet there are the following processes to be
  followed to accomplish the task.
  ▪ Firstly, we carefully review all records of vouchers and arrange into different heads
like purchase, sales and so on
  ▪ Then we created a company in Tally software by that company name and started
      entering data.
  ▪ After completing entries posting, then we rechecked the data by Balance sheet, Trial
      balance and Day book.
  ▪ In case of difficulties during the task, we immediately contacted our mentors in the
      firm.
                                           31

contribute to the accurate reporting and timely remittance of TDS obligations, helping to avoid
penalties and ensure compliance with tax laws.
I have also filed Form 8; It is a crucial document for MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs)
compliance under the Companies Act. It is filed annually by companies to declare their
solvency status. The form includes details such as the company's financial year, assets and
liabilities, and directors' declaration regarding solvency. It must be filed within 30 days from
the date of the annual general meeting or from the end of the financial year. Non-compliance
may result in penalties and fines.

                                 12. INTERN'S ASSESSMENT
Shah Mulewa & Associates is a well-known Chartered Accounting firm, and I had the pleasure of
working as an intern at that company. I believe that this experience has taught me a great deal
about myself, my strengths, weaknesses, comfort zones and activities which need to be improved
since it has been the initial proper exposure of corporate life.
Although, more importantly, it is the opinion of those who had to get the work out of me, and work
with me that will lead to the most impactful development in this stage of my career.
The assessment of the intern's performance is a process in which they are assessed by comparing
their current performances to existing standards and then given feedback on how well they have
performed so that an organisation can improve them if necessary.
The very purpose of the performance assessment is to find out how an intern performs, followed
by determining whether training and improvements are necessary. Accordingly, I have prepared a
questionnaire to assess my performance that has been submitted by ten responding staff members
in addition to their superiors, senior colleagues, and trainees. Below is an overview of the forms.

qualities that impressed the evaluator and areas where improvement is needed, are assessed on a
subjective basis.

                                    16. SUGGESTIONS
Shah Mulewa & Associates is a small firm to work in. Although the current conditions are
good there is still room for improvement.
From my time at Shah Mulewa & Associates, I have noticed there were certain factors
which where there was roomfor improvement. They are as follows.
➢ Bottlenecks
There are two classifications of assignments that Shah Mulewa & Associates accepts. The
first are the small ones which are worked on by the lead consultant, principal consultant,
consultant, and associate consultant. The second classification is that of bigger and more
complex assignments, which have greater difficulty. These assignments must pass through
the CEO. This creates over dependence on him. As he already has a lot of work and must
fly around the country for work, he often cannot attend to all projects personally and on
time. Thus, this creates bottle necks in performance.
➢ Aspects of Valuation
There are certain aspects of the valuation process which need to be given more attention
by the firm. Certainly, the first aspect to be considered is that there can be better
understanding of client needs andthen customizing the valuation process according to the
client. Currently there are fixed templates which undergo minor changes and then reports
   are prepared for the clients.
                                                49
➢ Brand Awareness
As of now there is very little brand awareness among the general public of Shah Mulewa &
Associates, and the CA consultancy industry in general. The company should engage in
development of its website to boost goodwill and spread awareness about its brand which will
help fetch not only better customers, but it will also build a favorable image in the minds of
   prospective employees.
Instead of overwhelming new employees with training all at once. Schedule regular training
sessions on specific topics. Tools or skills throughout the year. This allows for better retention
   and application of learning.

In conclusion, the internship experiences at Shah Mulewa and Associates provide interns with
successful careers in the field of Chartered Accountancy. Through hands-on learning,
professional development initiatives, and mentorship from experienced professionals, interns
emerge from the program well-equipped to excel in the accounting profession.
One of the key takeaways from this study is the vital role that CA firms play in ensuring
financial transparency, compliance, and accountability. These companies are playing an
important role in the enhancement of investor confidence, facilitation of timely decisions and
promotion of growth by offering a wide range of services including audits, taxation or
advisory.
All of the above services are very good, which means that they attract a number of clients
similar in size. To carry out the work in accordance with the requirements, all departments
have hired the best personnel. Therefore, being placed at Shah Mulewa & Associates yields
the advantage of working with the best people, on great work, with superb clients.
My superiors have been supportive of me all the time during my internship. They did not leave
any of my questions unanswered and structured my work in such a way that I never felt I was
extremely overburdened, but they had the vision to give me assignments of just enough difficulty
that I always felt challenged and never thought that a particular assignment did not give me any
room to grow and learn.
The experience of this internship has been amazing and educational. It taught some vital career
enhancing and even life skills such as communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, and
willingness to accept change, strong-willed and determined research, time management, financial
modelling skills, and even MS Excel and Word Skills.
I also had the opportunity to survey my superiors to understand how I performed from their point
of view. I have greatly benefited from this perspective, which has given me a clear idea of where
I am and what needs to be improved as well as the areas that need immediate attention. The survey,
as described in the section on international assessment.
The internship at Shah Mulewa & Associates was the best I have spent, learning, and growing
at every step, not only during the internship, but also after it due to continued feedback and
support that I received from my wonderful colleagues and superiors.
