24 Suffixes

Read the following sentences:


1. Sumit is my friend. 3. I hope to meet you.
Our friendship is strong. Hopefully, I will meet you.
2. The king was kind. 4. Meet my child.
He acted with kindness. Don’t be childish.
In the above sentences, the letters in red colour are used after the words in blue to form
new words with different meanings. These groups of letters are called suffixes.

A suffix is a letter or a group of letters that are added at the end of a word
to change its meaning.

Let us now study about some of the important suffixes.
